  • Met an old friend on the parking lot, he visited me later with a nice surprise! Addendum: as a knowing user pointed out the guitar most likely has 500T/496R humbuckers.

Les Paul Studio are so underrated. Great guitars, especially from this era.

This is a Les Paul Studio Lite with 500T/496R humbuckers and a weight relieved mahogany/chromite body and maple top.

Heksenn, when my friend asked what kind of pickups are in it and such I said 'what do I know, I'm not a sales-person', but I'm sure somebody in the community will know every detail' and I was right! :) That's another reason why I love making videos here, to learn things I do not safely know myself in the guitar jungle. :) Thanks a lot for your contribution, I will also add this "Lite" addendum to the title.

Mike you are probably the best I've seen at controlling the tone by using the Volume/Tone control on the LP. You make it look easy which is why you are such an amazing player. The guitar maybe good, but I suspect that it's the workman rather than the tools...awesome video.

That guitar sounds great! Enjoyed your playing as usual & the history of the guitar & connecting with an old friend & helping him get the guitar in shape again. So good to hear music from you again & love your original style but those first few chords at intro roared like Leslie West.

Gibson Studio Lite models had fully hollowed out one piece bodies, that were then filled in with a balsa wood core. If you look under the pickups you will see the lighter wood in clear contrast. Same stuff you make model airplanes out of (Gibson coined it as "Chromite" to not sound cheap at the time). Its great tone wood just too delicate on its own. A clean burst model is worth about 2k USD and are cherished by fans of the model.

Outstanding guitar tone and playing. I own a 1992 Gibson Les Paul Studio (not the lite model) however it is lightest Gibson I have ever played. Early 90’s are the best Studio models ever made by Gibson.

I have the exact same model guitar! I just randomly did a search to see what people say about it. I think mine is a '92. Traded a couple cheaper guitars straight across (600.00 value) in 1996. My gold hardware looks the same as yours. I've traded the pickups out for Bartolini Vintage PBF Humbuckers. Love this guitar! I'm thinking of a re-fret and changing all the hardware out for black hardware. Maybe nickel. Thanks for making this video!

Thanks for this great demo. The Lites had the 500T and 496Rs, unlike the standard studios. So, they were like the Jimmy Page Standard LPs that came out mid-90s. They are shredding machines, as you clearly demonstrate; though your clean playing was really nice and shows they can do other tones. People either love the pickup configuration or hate them. In the wrong hands, they can sound shrill and cannot give a nice clean tone to save a village.

I have the same guitar. The stock pickups are among the hottest LP pickups I've ever played and the fast neck and low, wide frets make for fast playing and easy bending. For about 10 years, it was my only electric. I haven't played it much in the last 20 years but your video has rekindled my interest in this particular guitar and I will begin to included in my LP and SG gig "rotation." Nice review and great playing!!

lol , this was the comment I was looking for. Yup , the studio lites got those and regular studio got the 490/498. I think even I thought I heard a 490/490 combo but not sure.

Hey, ihave one of the same. 1991 model too. Bought it from my local dealer in Norway in 1992. I was 14 then and wnt to the sore once a week to play for half ayear before I managed to save up to buy it. They also gave me a good deal I belive. When I solde all my guitars including some vintage 60's this was the one I kept! Not out of nostagic reasons but the tone, playability amasing guitar. Only minus is maybe the looks:) Cheers!

Great video! I have a 2015 Gibson Les Paul studio, Manhattan midnight blue (I replaced the robot tuners with Grovers), and it's amazing. It has 57classic neck and 57plus bridge pickups, which are my favorite sounding LP pickups. Man, I LOVE this guitar! So much that I bought a 2002 last Saturday, wine red with gold hardware... In great shape, but really dirty. I'm working on cleaning it up and setting it up now. It has 490/498 pickups and it sounds SO SWEET! I'd recommend anyone to buy one. And as always, I love to hear you play. Oh yeah, I almost forgot... 'Have fun'.

Hello sir! What about 2015 neck - width, profile? Is it comfortable? Please share your thoughts.

    • @caseylee12
      @caseylee12 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@cornucopia8591 the 2015 neck is perfect for me. It is a little wider , so you have more room to bend, but the string spacing is the same. It's very comfortable to play, not a 'baseball-bat' at all. About the same as my fender Pro strat, but not as thin as my Epiphone SG with a thin line neck. And the color is not as common as a burst or wine red. Also, it has coil split, which I use every now and then, but not often. And it has a brass nut, so it rings like a bell!

I have the exact same model from 1992, but I have replaced the original pickups with Bartolinis that sound great. I will never sell this guitar! I got it in 1996 as a straight-across trade for two lesser guitars. It was for sale for 600.00 then and looked terrible, but all it needed was some deep cleaning and a setup. Now these guitars are going for 1,200.00 +. Thanks for the great video Mike!

I have the same guitar same year. Great guitar. Very fast neck and the ebony fret board on this guitar is AWESOME. Stock these came with muddy high output ceramic pickups to compensate for the thinner lighter body but they were a one trick pony so I swapped them out with Alnico 2's. I don't like the bridge pickup I put in there so I'm going to swap out the 2 magnet in that PU with a roughcast 5 bar magnet. That should give it the some juice but retain clarity.

6:15 GEILES Geschreddere !! ;-) ... dezente Optik - guter Sound !! ;-)

Hi Mike, I have the exact same guitar although mine has all black metalwork. Still in its brown Gibson USA case with pink lining. Mint apart from the neck pot being modified to allow for split coil. Completely agree about how great it sounds unamplified although I find the pickups a bit too hot for my liking. Any advice on valuing it so it doesn't get lumped in with the inferior later 90s Studio Lites? Thanks!
