Your Granddad helped save the world. This film was amazing. Need more flicks like this about the people who keep the world from falling into darkness.

My wife is Finnish (along with Oneida) so I recognized the word "Sisu" right away. Can't wait to see this. Michael's reaction was hilarious! And yes the Finns are bout that life! On sight!

It seems other countries are taking cinema seriously and exporting some amazing films. Hopefully this jumpstarts a new cinematic renaissance and we get some amazing stylized films from all over the world!
Also what did your wife say when she saw this trailer!?

When we reacted to this trailer we didn't realize Finland had such a rich war history. We saw the action and thought this was cool but now we have been inundated with tales of the White Death and countless others who have sacrificed for their homeland.
We hope this movie lives up to your expectations. What did you think of the trailer?

Some background for the movie. There's this Under the North Star book trilogy, which goes through the events of Finland's modern day history through the lives of family Koskela. The story starts: "In the beginning there were the swamp, the hoe - and Jussi". Here's a filming of Jussi clearing marshland to create a croft: "Finnish "Sisu" [PERKELE] *Higher quality*". Jussi is a kind of a Finnish archetype. Speaking of film remakes, the same author wrote another Finnish literature classic, The Unknown Soldier, which has been filmed three times. One member of that Koskela family is also a character in that book. The book follows events of a machine gun company during the Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union from 1941 to 1944. Here's a trailer from the latest 2017 version released on Finland's 100th year of independence: "Unknown Soldier - Official trailer 2". In that war Finland allied with Germany to fight against the Soviet Union. The Continuation War followed the Winter War Finland fought against the Soviet Union. The Sisu movie takes place during the Lapland War between the Finland and Germany. As part of the peace terms with the Soviet Union, Finland had to drive Germans out of Finland in such short time, it forced Finland and Germany into a conflict. That war is considered unnecessary since Germany, anticipating the peace between Finland and the Soviet Union, had already planned an organized withdrawal from Finland to German-occupied Norway. As the Germans withdraw from Lapland, they scorched everything and laid mines everywhere. Apparently they also stole that gold miner's gold. Talking about those Finnish ****, here's two documentaries about two wartime characters worth movies: "Törni - Sotilaan tarina (A Soldier's Story) English Subtitles" and "The White Death (Simo Häyhä) - Documentary 2012 - English Subtitles". In fact, John Wayne did play a character based on Törni in The Green Berets.

If there was an award for teaching us all things Finnish you would win it. Thank you. We are learning more about Simo. How is this dude not universally known throughout the world! With a name like The White Death you would think he would be a world wide hero! So when did you learn about this movie coming out? Does the trailer meet your expectations?

@@NerdybyNatureProductions The Sisu director Jalmari Helander has been making name for himself right from the start. He used to direct commercials before becoming a film director, which shows in his movies in a good way, in my opinion. His first notable work was these short films: "Rare Exports Inc. 2003 & The Official Rare Exports Inc. Safety Instructions 2005". The Sisu actor Jorma Tommila, black humor and nature element were already then present in his work. Helander's lastest big step on his career before Sisu was most likely the Big Game movie, in which Samuel L. Jackson starred. Jackson's connection with Finland is probably Renny Harlin. Harlin's first film was Born American, filmed in Finland in the 80s, in which Chuck Norris was supposed to star, but his son ended up starring instead. In that movie bunch of US kids end up fighting the Soviet system inside Russia. The movie stirred things in the Cold War era Finland. Born American was a pioneering Hollywood type action movie, which nobody though could be made in Finland with any credibility. Fast forward couple of decades and Chuck Norris appears, as himself, in a Finnish fast food chain commercial, in which he does not queue: "Kun Chuck Norris menee Hesburgeriin - hän ei jonota". If you watch that commercial, you can hear the same sound used as on that Sisu trailer in the beginning when the gold is being dug-maybe even that pickaxe sound too. That Renny Harlin's Born American movie has some similarities with the Red Dawn movie, in which the US kids fight against the Soviet invasion in the US, and in that fighting some Finnish-made weapons are used. Someone once said that Finland has a strange way of popping up in different connections. Probably tells how Finland and Finns usually have just a small footnote role in the grand scheme of things, if any. Those Rare Exports Inc. films are amusing to Finns, because before Coca-Cola Santa, Santa used to be this Krampus-like scary character, and Helander shows that he kinda still is. Even today Santa Claus in Finnish is called as Yule Goat and he lives in Lapland, instead of the North Pole. He even has a village there. As it happens, the Coca-Cola Santa was designed by Haddon Sundblom, whose mother was Swedish and father from the Äland Islands, which is a autonomous, Swedish-speaking region of Finland, between Finland and Sweden. There used be a thriving movie industry in Finland before owning a TV became common and the industry went to decline. It's nice to see Finnish filmmakers gaining prestige and Finland getting more widely noted as a place where movies can be made.

Leroy Jeeeennnnkkkiiiinnnss. Great call hooking Michael up with this trailer for us to see. It looks like a lot of stupid violent fun in the format of Quinton Tarantino.

We try to give the people what they want! Glad you liked it. Heard some rumblings about this movie and it was everything I hoped and wished it would be. It definitely has that grindhouse feel to it. Like we are watching something intimate and violent at the same time. Hopefully this film lives up to the trailer and we are treated with more great movies from Finland.

Well, the nazis actually burnt half of our country, so we kicked their @ss as well as the soviets @ss.
Check out the legends of Larry Thorne or the “white death” , this gold miner Aatami in this movie has definitely some of the characteristics of those legends .

@@NerdybyNatureProductions i just came back from the movies. I freakin' LOVED it! Just my kinda movie. Clearly finnish, we make and watch movies with that exact feel in all genres. That plus action with overboard details which i love, and just a tiny touch of humour. Visuals were amazing, writing was quality, production spot on and casting worked wonders. Several things placed in the movie that were deliberate but never mentioned. Very few critiques. Mainly i wished the Germans would have spoken German, but i get why they didn't. Aimed for the U.S. market. Also no sauna and some computer finishings left me hoping for more but I lo-ved it. I understand it is not for everyone but it was for me. Might actually be my new favourite movie

@@SK-nw4ig that is an awesome review/critique. Concise and no spoilers. Loved it. When we watch and post the review we need you there! Love movies like this. Short to the point and full of action and suspense.
Do you think if they do a digital/physical release they will update and have the Germans actually speaking German?
