That characters name is not Sisu. Sisu is a Finnish word that doesn't have direct translation to English. But it means like having guts and determination, just having big balls. And N*zis in Finland that time was true. Also that burning village, those damn N*zis burned Lapland

To note, it's not actually a Lionsgate production. They just bought the rights to distribute it in North America. It's just marketing to call it a Lionsgate movie. Then again, you need to do that to open the eyes in North America. No one would care if it was a small movie from Finland, even if it's good. But yes, you can still compare it to John Wick. Ridiculous amounts of entertaining violence.

Excellent. Thank you for letting me know. It looks amazing from what I saw in the trailer. If this is how Finnish production can produce their movies, I’d definitely like to see more!

@@TsReelTalk Saw this. I laughed out loud when the main character finally talked. He didn't talk much. He didn't need to. He had a "reputation". When a small Russian patrol drove by him, he lifted his pickaxe, looked at them and nodded... and the Russians turned around and left. One of my favorite scenes, of many.

@@TsReelTalk Besides this, Jalmari Helander has written and directed two more theatrically released movies.
Big Game is a mix of Home Alone with movies like Die Hard, Cliffhanger and Air Force One, with Samuel L. Jackson as US President lost in the wilderness in Finnish Lapland and Onni Tommila as a kid helping him survive from terrorists chasing him.
Rare Exports is a Dark Fantasy Comedy with adventure and horror elements, inspired by two short movies Helander had made, Rare Exports Inc and Rare Exports: The Official Safety Instructions. In the films, Mall Santas are actually feral elf beings that have been hunted down and tamed for the job and in the long movie, actual Santa Claus (Finnish: Joulupukki, literally translates to Yule Goat) is revealed to be a giant, demonic, goat deity. The film, again, stars Jorma Tommila and his son Onni Tommila, and popular Finnish actor Tommi Korpela. You may find the short movies on TH-cam.
Helander, a former TV commercial maker, has also done a short, small budget, indie film, Ukkonen (Finnish for Thunder), a Sci-Fi Action with Jorma Tommila. Jorma's son Onni is Jalmari's nephew, so he's part of the family, hence the frequent collaborations. Onni also has a role in Sisu, as a young Nazi soldier.
Jalmari is obviously a big fan of American Action movies. Movies like Rambo, Terminator, Die Hard etc. Coincidentally, Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger and Long Kiss Goodnight (from a script by Lethal Weapon 1&2 writer Shane Black) was directed by Renny Harlin, another Finnish director.

Yes and soviets are never portrayed as a bad guy, and thats ironic as a finnish film, the soviets shouldve been the bad, since thats what finns were mainly defending against

Sisu is a holy word for us. Sisu means for me that you'll never ever give, in face of adversity. The scenery was played after Finland lost both wars in ww2 against the Soviet. The Soviet forced us to an armistice and declared against the nazi's in the Finnish Lapland. This war was called as "The Lapland wars" where the Nazi's burned the entire Lapland in face of the Finland betray.
Plus from the war, some of finnish war heros became cult figurs in Finland. Simo Häyhä, the world's deadliset sniper killed over 505 and 100 - 200 men with machine gun. Aarne Edward Juutilainen, "The Terror of Morocco", whom his legend was at the Battle of Kollaa, when his company went behind enemy lines to steal some Soviets weapons, to use against them. Then we've Lauri Tröni, whom also served US Army special forces as Larry Throne, whom the book of "The Green Berets" was based on. One his solider Mauno Koivisto, whom he also considering as a friend. He became the Finland's President from 1982 to 1994.
We finns are fighters. If you woken the SISU within us, there is no stopping us. So when u use SISU, they're no stopping you.
