Some context is needed here. During the reunion tour (where this comes from) every night there was the "5 pack" of songs that were the central part of the show. Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out. He played these songs in the middle of each show and anyone who was seeing Bruce for the first time was hooked and it proved that he and the ESB were here to stay. These 5 songs were played without any "break" between them one after the other and were literal barn burners. By the time he got to 10th the audience was exhausted and this song brought them to a totally different level. Welcome to the church of Bruce.
The whole crowd knows the song. He knows they do. And he's not gonna start until they're as into it as he is. It's a signature song, introducing the band, telling the back story of the band, etc. #fun
This is emotional watching Clarence in this. Bruce used this song in 2012 and before 'the big man joined the band' he'd pause it and they had a montage of Clarence and Danny photos on the screen. I think everyone cried. Here's a link. th-cam.com/video/Jl31oHGilsE/w-d-xo.html
I'm really glad you enjoyed that. Just a couple of bits of information that may even make you enjoy it better if that's at all possible. First, that is water that he's drenched with. He has a huge bucket and a sponge and he douses himself with it between songs. When he wipes his face with that blouse and throws it back into the audience and says "Elvis is alive" is because Elvis Presley used to do that. The beautiful red-haired lady is his wife of over 30 years now. The song he sings when he introduces her is called "Red-headed woman" that he wrote for her. Watch when he introduces her and as he's making his way up to her he sings "down upon my knees" and watch her smile and shake her head as if to say "you better get down on your knees." The song is about when he was a young man and could not go home because he'd argue with his father all night. All he wanted to do was be in a rock and roll band and his father didn't understand. So he walked the streets at night even in the winter so he didn't have to go home. Thus 10th avenue freeze out and you hear him sing and "I'm on my own and I can't go home." Then he followed his dreams and with hard work and the help of a great band and of course the change was made up town when the big man joined the band. Clarence! And everything is "all right now" as he sings at the end. Beautiful song about following your dreams and making them become reality with help from your friends lovers and bandmates.
It's worth noting that "Tenth Avenue Freezeout" was, like, a THREE-MINUTE AND FIFTEEN SECOND song on Born To Run! He really fleshes out love/origin story of the band, on stage.
I love you. The best reaction for this performance ever! This is a long time ago.... but you picked a great selection to understand Bruce's family with the band he's played with for so long. Good choice.
That sweat was real. Bruce is known for playing marathon concerts, oftn running over 3 hours. There have been times when he has literally played until he had nothing left and was carried off stage. I recall hearing that he had his guitar waterproofed so that he could go to the side of the stage and dunk his head in a container of water to cool off. And the love for the band is really something special. I still recall the moment that I heard that Clarence was gone. RIP
I like that you play a lot of Bruce. Especially the live in concert and classic when he was younger. The other reaction channels don't take that chance. Keep it going. Only one draw back. You let your comments go on a little too long. Great job. 👍
"Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" was the first Springsteen song I remember hearing as a Springsteen song on the radio as a kid in the late seventies. I was twelve, maybe eleven. I had been hearing his songs on the radio for years already without knowing it. I figured out later that he wrote the Manfred Mann's Earth Band hit "Blinded by the Light" as well as the Pointer Sisters hit "Fire" and the Patti Smith hit "Because the Night". When I was in eighth grade my girlfriend's parents gave me his Born to Run album and I've been listening to it ever since. His songs like "She's the One" and "Streets of Fire" held my teenage attention well into the eighties and beyond. I would have been singing along with the crowd too. Springsteen is on the cusp of 50 years old in that video. The song he segues into towards the end of the first section is Al Green's "Take Me to the River", a wonderful song too.
It does not make any difference on which channel I watch this live-version of 10th Anvenue - every time I have goosebumps and tears in my eyes!! I think, it is, has been, was and will be the greatest live performance in rock of all time and for all time.
Every show at some point he introduces the band . Alot of his songs he extends I actually partied with the big man at an event awesome 1 on 1 time with him
Greetings again, eh, and Happy Hallowe'en!! Bruce says his shows are "part circus, part dance party, part political rally and big tent review", and now you know why!!! The Big Man will always be with us, and in the song, Bruce refers to "Scooter and the Big Man", Scooter was Bruce's nickname long before this "Boss" thing took over. Clarence has passed on, but, unfortunately so has Danny Federici. That's him on the Hammond B3 organ, he died just a few years after this show. I was at one of the last shows he did......Mrs. Bruce (Patti Scialfa) has some albums out on her own, interesting stuff. As for the water, Bruce has a giant bucket of water next too the drumkit, he will dunk himself in it or use the peanut sponges to soak himself. For Hallowe'en, look up Bruce's "A Night with the Jersey Devil", a performace video unlike anything he's done before. Hope you are well, and ROCK ON!!!!
I'll always be thankful to Bruce for removing the "Curse of the Bambino" from the Boston Red Sox when he performed an exorcism live on stage when he first played Fenway Park in 2003. The Red Sox won the World Series the following season after an 86 year drought. Although Boston newspapers have mentioned it Bruce has never taken credit for it.
The song tells the story of the formation of the E Street Band. The meaning of the title is unclear. Bruce Springsteen himself says in the documentary "Born to Run Wings for Wheels: The Making of Born to Run:" I still have no idea what that means. But it is important. I find that he gives his all during this live, and there is a lot of love and bond between his wife and him. 💑
Check out an older version of Rosalita , 1980 or older, to see how he introduced the band back then. I like this but its something he's always done and made fun.
I love the fact that he works with his partner alot and always gives her props and married her and is still married to her and he's always has his friends-bandmates back
Patti tried to audition for the band when she was was a lot younger, Bruce told her to go and finish her education first. She did and then came back to audition
Bruce is the best universal medecine.
Ikr😁
Bruce said “losing Clarence was like losing the rain”.
Every Bruce concert is moving, but this performance was particularly special.

One of the best performance live ever!!! 🔝
True that 💯
How does anybody pass this as a performance?!
Most performers could not put out that level of energy over 19 years never mind 19 minutes. Awesome
Bruce Springsteen surely knows how to do a showmanship

Underneath the dictionary definition of 'the feel good factor' there's a picture of Bruce.

Wow! Thanks a lot for this insight. So inspirational for sure. I love how these songs tell his story. All our dreams are truly valid 💯

I loved watching it a lot❤️. Thanks for this info
And that's how you introduce your band.
Rest In Peace, Big Man.
I love you. The best reaction for this performance ever! This is a long time ago.... but you picked a great selection to understand Bruce's family with the band he's played with for so long. Good choice.
That's why he is the "BOSS".
True true
The song is BRUTALLLL. 🎸🎸

You are welcome and I am glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful commentary! I was there at the show that night in Madison Square Garden, July 3, 2000. We flew up from Florida and it was the BEST EVER!
I like that you play a lot of Bruce. Especially the live in concert and classic when he was younger. The other reaction channels don't take that chance. Keep it going. Only one draw back. You let your comments go on a little too long. Great job. 👍
thanks for reaction, good job.

One of my favorite songs by Bruce. And this live version is even better. Quite a musical change from the opening to when they really go into the song.

Awesome, thanks!!!
Welcome and thanks too
Bruce would lose 5+ pounds of sweat during every concert back then!
Please, if you can show "Drive All Night." (Oviously the live, official version ) A true MASTERPIECE!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you for this suggestion, I will
Patti is his wife. The big man playing sax is the late great Clarence Clemons.
She’s his wife, she joined the band in 1984
The other guitarist nils same
The band has been together since 1973
Check out an older version of Rosalita , 1980 or older, to see how he introduced the band back then. I like this but its something he's always done and made fun.
❤
Check out Patti Scialfa's song "Ramble Doll" sometime.
I dont know if you know, but patti and bruce are married, and clearence and bruce where the best of best friends :)
Thanks for this info 🙏
I love the fact that he works with his partner alot and always gives her props and married her and is still married to her and he's always has his friends-bandmates back
Sorry I was spelling fast and that's why I had to edit alil
Patti tried to audition for the band when she was was a lot younger, Bruce told her to go and finish her education first. She did and then came back to audition
The red head is his wife.......sorry to get telling you everything but I would be curious. Thats why he called her the First Lady of love.
Dear Fay! Did you know Bruce and redheaded Patti were married? Hope i dont sound like a fool to point that out. You can see it in all they do. ❤❤❤❤
It was sweat.........."he just to say, "Take this job and love it" instead of a country singer who sang "Take this job and shove it"
ELVIS used to wipe his sweat on peoples shirt and throw it back. So that's what happened.
are you crazy stopping it there
