Good on you Michael, and what a fabulous model, but that first warning leaflet you took out is very important as it does warn you against the sturdy packaging that holds the loco in place for shipping, Matt Slade broke some detailing while removing his, eeeek and ouch.... And mate, the smoke generator is Dapols own creation, not sleuth, it's so you can use the odourless oil, but you can use the sleuth oil if you wish. All in all this model is amazing and is the closest to real thing so far, you must be a 'chuffed' little bunny :0)
+Western Centurion Thanks Mark, Yeah your right about that leaflet but I had read it all before hand so I was very careful getting it out and putting it away again (I hope, lol) Yeah it's a pretty good smoke generator, I probably won't be smoking myself out of the loft too often though. I got 'Mallard' as my choice. What an amazing experience! From the box it ran well, though I did have a little problem with the smoke unit. If all else fails, read the instructions. A quick word with 'Dapol' soon sorted the problem, now it is just getting used to all the functions available on this superb model. Many people have commented on the price, in different reviews. It is relative, if you think of the cost of Hornbys offering and then add the cost of sound, smoke, lights, coal and superior build quality, is it really expensive? This set of A4 engines sets a bench mark for all other manufactorers to raise their game to, but I do hope Dapol include 'crew' with their next generation.
+Chrissy Smith Yeah I had the same with the smoke but a quick read and a little blow of air it cleared up and ran well. I can't fault the running of it either, absolutely wonderful. I also like that because it's die-cast you don't get the mould line at the top and tbh the paint seems nicer too. Like you say it's actually about on par if you add those features yet has many more advantages like being die-cast, the detail etc. Yes crew would be nice next. I do hope we start seeing more locos like this! I won't buy them all, just any that will suit my layout. Cheers, Michael
i did a review on. it ran well for most of the vid but in the last shot it sounded the whistle all by its self then it stopped working all together after that so i did a full reset on it and it was working again but this time it keep stopping all the time for no reason. i cant fine the problem this time
Oh dear, Yeah I would look at sending it back if I was you. Mine has turned off and on again as such a couple of times but I've been putting that down to the dirty track as iv'e not really ran anything or cleaned it within 6 months lol.
That's one hell of a model ,and the features are outstanding ! Great review on it ,and it's nice to see a booklet in the box. A silly question, and I know both are based on different eras, class 24, or the A4 ,which would you say has the edge over the other ? ....Andy
+andybyrne50 Oh now that is a difficult question indeed! Probably this A4 slightly pips the 24 by the slightest of margins because the paintwork on the die cast body is superb! But both have their own unique good points and I love both of them haha
+andybyrne50 Don't blame you, I think there is rumours of them doing later (BR) versions which probably won't have the side valances at some point. I'll probably get one of them to as I plan on running my layout alternating 2 eras
Coming late to this party. Lovely looking loco. Are the side connecting rods at 90 or 120 degrees? Standard models seem to show 90 degrees, which is not right for a three cylinder loco.

Don't mumble when talking and pick up the pace of your presentation. If you mumble and talk slowly you will lose the viewers interest. Get on with the core of the review quickly to keep viewers watching. Know what you are showing in advance. All the talking about the box and the instructions, etc. will drive people away. Mumble, mumble, mumble. Camera work is shoddy as well. Too slow. I left at 7:42.
My Bittern has just arrived today, can't wait to get it fired up!

That's exactly my intentions,early diesels with steam..hence my green livery loco's
