    It might help to know the back story here: this song is about the death of and older sister (Sharon) from AIDS in about 1994 at 32 when Beth was about 22 years old (just before her first major label contract with Atlantic Records). The title of the song is (obviously) a play on words between her sister as a ‘hero’ (heroine) and the drug heroin and likely avenue of HIV transmission. Your comments spot on-but, although Beth is well known in the Music Industry, she never gets airplay. The 4 most reacted Beth performances are: “I’d Rather Be Blind,” “Am I The One,” "I’ll Take Care of You,” and “Caught Out in The Rain.”

    • @rogerwitte
      @rogerwitte 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And I was thinking the title was an allusion to the Marianne Faithful classic 'Sister Morphine' (also by the Rolling Stones, but I like Marianne Faithful version better and written by Faithful/Jagger/Richards so neither version is a 'cover' as such)

    • @ben-schulman
      @ben-schulman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@rogerwitte Right, hadn't thought about that. No, this is a Beth original--although she has many songs about alcohol and drug addition, this isn't one of them. Just a love song to her deceased sister.

      You sound as big a fan as I am! My goal is to hear her live, but up here in Canadian covid prison with our dictator prime minister not letting the "unclean unvaxxed" leave the country, looks like I will have to escape!

      @@BluesGirlBabe "covid prison"...that's funny (or maybe not). Well, she has the 2nd leg of US Tour starting up again next week in CA and will pretty much be in the West & South of the US. Don't know where in CAN you are, but a BH concert makes for a worthy road trip. I saw her last month & will take a little road trip to NC to see her once more in May. (Went to see Joe Bonamassa last Saturday too). Doesn't look like she'll be in CAN anytime soon--but will be in England a year from now....

    This personal and emotional ballad, typical of Beth, was filmed in 2018 at London’s Royal Albert Hall. She’s currently touring the US and including cuts from her newest release-- ‘A Tribute to Led Zeppelin’ in concerts. That’s right, a song like this is then followed by “Black Dog.” She’s a mesmerizing performer.

I have seen her many times in concert and when you leave you feel different, you feel your soul has been touched. If you get a chance to see her live, you should. She is the most down to earth loving artist out there today.

    Great reaction. I admittedly expect "awestruck" in reaction to Beth Hart and you didn't disappoint. There is no one on her level. I've been a huge fan ever since I first saw her on Star Search over twenty years ago. I was struck by you saying that this song in particular should be something you hear on the radio and it just reminds me that the music business mostly caters to people with s**t taste. I mean, seriously...
    But back to Beth. What an amazing songwriter. When I first heard the line "goodbye white trash beauty queen, your crooked hat, your beat up dreams..",
    I simply thought....genius genius genius songwriter.

    Ok Mr. Boyd, glad to see your 2nd BH performance (first one was a cover of Sam Cooke’s ‘A Change is Gonna Come’). Beth is a master musician (piano, guitar, bass), singer, and song writer-this is a very deep rabbit hole, across many genres, so here are 10 suggestions tapped from just 3 concerts in 2004, 2013, and 2018:
    BLUES GODDESS BETH (collaboration with Joe Bonamassa and his band; all Blues & Soul covers):
    1) “I’d Rather Be Blind” (from the ‘Live in Amsterdam’ DVD, 2014): ww.th-cam.com/video/UEHwO_UEp7A/w-d-xo.html
    2) “I’ll Take Care of You” (Beacon Theatre in NYC, 2011): th-cam.com/video/1Vtt--3j33g/w-d-xo.html
    3) ‘I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know” (Amsterdam, 2014): th-cam.com/video/bOQ07fVVDJQ/w-d-xo.html
    SINGER-SONGWRITER BETH (from the Royal Albert Hall concert in London in 2018):
    1) “Caught Out in The Rain” (about an unhealthy relationship with a dangerous man): th-cam.com/video/lzdJf7Hqttk/w-d-xo.html
    2) "Leave The Light On" (about her turbulent childhood): th-cam.com/video/ETj8kXNAtuE/w-d-xo.html
    3) “Baddest Blues” (inspired by Billie Holiday & her mom): th-cam.com/video/hJMk-9DTe1o/w-d-xo.html
    ROCK STAR BETH (from the legendary ‘Live at Paradiso’ Amsterdam concert in 2004):
    1) “Am I The One”- th-cam.com/video/hZG3MghkX3Q/w-d-xo.html
    2) “Mama” (Beth on piano)- th-cam.com/video/QK_TjE461Fo/w-d-xo.html
    3) “Whole Lotta Love” (Zeppelin cover) - th-cam.com/video/lUaut2m4YaI/w-d-xo.html
    4) “LA Song” (her 1999 hit single): th-cam.com/video/M3IFV1ywUoI/w-d-xo.html

    Beth Hart is a powerful songwriter because her lyrics are based on her life experiences. Songs that address her battle with addiction and mental illness are usually performed with piano only. A good example is “Take It Easy On Me” which describes her cry to God for help overcoming her demons. Check out her emotional performance at Royal Albert Hall, 2018.

    Beth is amazing, and this song is not always easy for her to perform, but when she does it is so full of feelings for her sister. She brings me to tears every time with this song. If you like this one you might like "Mama" live at Paradiso, "Leave the Light On" live at Paradiso, and I don't remember if you have seen her performance of "Am I the One" live at Paradiso. If not, it is worth seeing. Also Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa "I'd Rather Go Blind" live in Amsterdam, "I'll Take Care of You" live Beacon Theatre New York; "Somethings Got A Hold On Me" live in Amsterdam. Great reaction. Sorry man, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT CORRECT. First, although she's done all kinds of drugs, she was never much of a heroine user (Klonopin being her drug of choice sort speak). She had her worst mental and physical breakdown in 1999-2000--so much so, she was incapacitated for over a year and did not write or play music. With the help of her husband, Scott, she clawed her way back with the writing and recording of the 'Leave The Light On" album in late 2002 & 2003 . She also had another tough period (addiction and mental illness) around the recording of the '37 Day' album in 2007/08. This song (Sister Heroine) first appears on the 2010 ''My California' album and it does feature Slash on guitar. Beth, along with Rune Westberg, wrote the song. (Beth also appears on, and cowrote, the song "Mother Maria" with Slash from his solo album in 2010).

      @@jkprobert4492 I was trying not to jump all over you because I figured it was just something you heard, but it bugs how commonly people publicly toss around comments to tens of thousands of people-just shooting from the hip, not checking facts, and just propagating misinformation. She's totally authentic, humble, and transparent... her entire discography is personal and an open book.
