Hello from placerville ca.. authorities just caught another arsonist…one on the loose. 3 fires in the last 24 hrs. The one that started after 11 last night is still growing.. prayers needed for my small town!
Please everyone pray for my family we lost everything to a house fire on Friday afternoon. All we had left was the clothes we had on. All my prep. Is gone as well as 4 freezers full of meat that I could not save. The Red Cross came and helped us with a place to sleep and food to eat. They gave us the case number to go to the thrift stores like Salvation army and Goodwill but when we went they said they couldn't help us. So please pray for the insurance company to help with paying off our home witch was struck by lighting . Thank you
May the Lord make a way where there seems to be no way; my ❤️ cries out for you and yours; praying that all of what you have lost will be restored 100%; trust in the Lord with all your ❤️ and lean not on your understanding in all your ways acknowledge Him and He make your path straight🫶🙏🤗
Oh how horrible to lose everything! I'm so sorry. Prayers you get lots of needed help. Good Will and Salvation Army etc will help. Sending Hugs of Healing for you and your family.
One thing my 26 year old daughter and her girlfriends do is they host a clothing swap party. They all get together at one girls house, they share a meal and swap clothing. I think these young ladies are on to something. They thrift and they share with each other. Proud mamma here.
I'm 72 and handicapped and unable to walk or stand more than 5 minutes. But I am the "doorman" for my 2 dogs. I do what I can. I'll NEVER give up, and I'll never surrender.
Seeing little kids that age makes me cry like a baby, with pride and sorrow at the same time. They then young ones are the ones that will suffer the most prayers for the babys.
My sewing room is full of fabrics and anything we might need. I have been collecting for years, from estate sales, yard sales, friends, thrift stores. Buttons, shoelaces, snaps, zippers, darning egg, knitting and crochet needles, patterns, thread, yarn, batting, you name it. I can sew just about anything.
I've done the same thing, and also kept all old sheets etc. I remember when oldies used to cut sheets into strips and resew to put the thin part at the bottom to get more use out of them.
I always have a container of powedered buttermilk in my fridge. Get large bags of baking powder at walmart for hardly anything - transfer them to glass jars.
Everyone needs to buy fabric from hobby lobby every other week when fabric is 40 percent off. Search marketplace for old timey treadle sewing machines. Stock heirloom seed. Raise rabbits. Their waste material is a cold manure. Will not burn your plants. Plant marigolds in your garden to keep the deer out and cut down on bugs. Save old clothes to cut in strips to crochet throw rugs. Buy solar lights. Get cast iron to cook over open fire. Get Wood heater. Stock firewood. Have a hand pump put in. Make sure you have extra leather packings for it. Learn to make leather britches with green beans. Dehydrating food in the sun using a window screen. The list goes on and on. Time is short. Learn new skills. When it hits the fan is not the time to try to learn. You have to be ready to hit the ground running
Yes! You said it perfectly. We built a hanging station last weekend and this weekend will be the smokehouse. I would like to add, if you raise chickens, look into mealworm farming.
Who wants to laugh? I've only ever heard the word "britches" in reference to pants, so you can imagine my confusion when I read "learn to make leather britches with your green beans." LOL!
I'm a still young widowed Baptist Pastors wife from Georgia. I have anxiety, grief and depression. God is my strength, but I need extra prayer. And our oldest son took his life 19 months after the Pastor was called home. I walk 3 miles aday. Life is so hard. And I was diagnosed with non alcohol cirrhosis of the liver. So all of God's children please pray for me and our identical twin sons. May God bless you ❤❤❤
I'm walking daily. Even on Sunday. 10,000 steps minimum. I'll be 71 in a couple of weeks. I've lost 43 lbs. I'm doing my best, with my health conditions, to get in better shape.
I had a little extra money this week and I went to the dollarstore and got our 4 girls things for their stockings this year. I got them all toothbrushes, toothpaste, everyday ankle socks, wool socks, mini hot water bottle, chapstick, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant.....and back in January I got them all beautiful fleece hoodies for 10.00 each and a beautiful Sherpa blanket. I didn't know what this year would look like so I bought a couple things early so I knew they would be unwrapping something 😀
A small town near Fort Worth, Texas just had a SWAT standoff. A deputy was shot 3 times, in the arm, the lower abdomen and back of the head. It is truly a miracle the deputy is alive and talking. The deputy was trying to serve 3 warrants all pertaining to child S.A. The 40 y.o. male suspect is in custody now with injuries. I pray for everybody's safety.
My mother was born in 1919. Her family lived in North Carolina. 2 stories she told me have always stuck with me. 1- There was a period during The Depression that she had 1 pair of socks; if they got a hole she had to sew them up as they couldn't buy another pair. 2- she talked about men who would come to their house and ask to do any work they could (repairs, etc.) and asked only for a few biscuits or food in payment that they could take home to their families. Whether it's bad politics, war, stock market crash, etc., the potential for things to get there again is real!!!!
I'm glad you're addressing this issue. I have probably a dozen black Costco buckets full of brand new clothes/shoes that I find on clearance. I have them all labeled so I can find things My husband and daughters are thinking less and less than I'm crazy. For example, Walmart had $25 shoes on clearance for $3 each. I bought two of each size in various designs, from infant up to young teen. I do the same thing with shirts, pants, socks, etc. When my son-in-law lost his job, my daughter was so grateful for all the shoes and clothes for her sons. This has happened over and over, I've lost count of these things situations. . You need shoes? A new jacket? New bra? Socks, gloves? My family is always amazed when they ask if just happen to some random thing and I point them to the right bucket!
Isn’t it something? All of us can feel it in our bones that something’s coming - I didn’t feel like this 10 years ago. Now I just have this knowing that we are headed into something. I try not to worry/stress because I know Christ is king. But I certainly feel it and pray for our nation.
A few years back a local church started a clothing giveaway. It outgrew the church and is now ran by community volunteers in a building which was once the local grocery store. The Center provides free clothing to anyone who has a need. Burn out, tornado, flood, victim's can come in and pick up clothing and/or household items completely without cost. Several times a year, they hold a two day event of a free clothing give away to anyone in the community. Hundreds come through. The center obtains the clothing by donations. This idea has now spread to another local community. People helping people. ❤️
Medicinal Herbs are my big focus this year, I'm growing Valerian, Echinacea, Garlic, Skullacap, St.Johns Wort, Rosemary, Basil, Thyme, Marshmallow Root, Ashwagandha,, Stevia, Sorghum, Oregano, Wild Lettuce, Mullein, Plantain, Horse Radish(for my fire cider), Etc......I'm growing as many as possible since I've had a feeling that soon we won't be able to get our medicines. I have several food gardens as well, but went all out on the medicinal herbs this year.
I legit went nuts in 2020something when my daughter became pregnant. That kid has clothes n shoes till she’s a grown woman. And the trees, asparagus, artichokes etc that I planted are for her and her children. All Glory to God.
Get some cloth pads, might seem icky right now, but sure as heck would beat nothing! I use them myself, and I think my cramping is less when I use them vs the synthetic ones!
A family member at a family event that i was not present at told all the other family members that my "prepping" was a mental illness. This crushed me. I was so proud of myself and then to hear this. It took all the joy out of my lifestyle.
Just my husband and me. In our 60s. I sew, knit, crochet and spin wool. With stash to match the skill sets Thrifting is my shopping. I upcycle clothing. Sheets become quilt backings. Made a skirt from a solid color knit sheet. Taught my adult daughters to sew and they both upcycle as well. Gonna get tough, folks. Learn a skill. Ppl like me enjoy teaching these skills so don't be afraid to ask. Prayer up 🙏♥️
I staryed walking a mile up and a mile back everyday, then I will work up to 2 miles each way, then will start running. Im 64 now, but never to late. Feel great walking ,and have way more energy and less stress. You got me going Patara, thank you. ❤ Im slender, but need to get fit.
I packed a 55 gallon drum with extra clothes, gloves, hats and boots (besides what I have extra in the house). I put it in a an outbuilding so if there's ever a house fire or something everything is not all in one location.
@@ninnymuggins5159 i really like the idea of the 55 gallon drum! I think it's absolutely brilliant!!!! You can have it at home but somewhere away from your living space so it's safe. Then if the perverabl poo hits the fan, it's right there.
I was so upset yesterday with instagram. My feed was so slow that a post about a VA unattended funeral didn’t show up until 6 hours after it had taken place. I want everyone to please try to keep up with your local news and VA. I don’t know the reason behind this persons death, nor why they could find no friends or family, but they do deserve to be remembered for putting on the uniform and serving honorably.
Local funeral homes here have lists of veterans to call. They have lists of preachers/ singers also. Get a list of Buddy's make copies and drop them off at the funeral homes.
I work my 4 acres and that’s about all I can handle. I fell twice when I didn’t see some holes. Hip a little sore. I walk outside in the yard everyday using my walking stick now. I have a lot of quilts. I got them every time I visited TN. I e also been stocking up all things we may need for winter, elderberry teas, etc. most importantly I’m trying hard to keep the scriptures read. We need to stay close to Jesus.
last night i went thru my "medicine statsh" checking dates on all the dollar store items i bought, like headache meds, cold meds, aspirin and vitamins. i plan to start prepping this week on more stuff for winter. i will get soaps, hand soaps, toothpaste and body wash. i love the 1 dollar aisle at dollar general but my local one rarely re-stocks. i dont mind driving a little ways if it means stocking up.
Buy extra rubber elastic in different sizes and thread to replace those waist bands in sweatpants and underwear due to weight lost or dry rot from storage.
The elastic band on men’s underwear is great to use on skirts or wherever you might need elastic. I’ve put it on a couple of my remodeled skirts / sweats…
I started picking up clothing a little bit ago. I figured, if China were to cut off the US to goods, it would be beneficial to collect a few things. I have also been looking for cookware to use on a fire pit. I bought tents to use on top of beds in the event of a power outage during winter. Thank you for sharing your life with us. You are a light in this ever growing darker world. God bless.
I'm glad (since I don't drive) I can walk to work as it's at a Food Lion 11 minutes away. The job helps me to "keep watch" on all sorts of things and make a little money. Started getting the compulsion years ago to gather for my elderly Mom and I, things like: rain gear, cold and warm weather clothes, shoes, boots, etc. and other items. Got a lot of it at clearance sales, thrift stores, yard sales, Amazon Warehouse deals and so on. Unfortunately she died last September at 90. Am still prepping though but with a very sad heart at her loss.
I was recently given a TON of clothes given to me. Along with kitchen & bathroom towel. I'm talking 80 lawn & leaf bags. I'm sharing with a friend & donating some. But this was great for me because I'm working outside the home for the 1st time in over 20 yrs. I needed a work wardrobe. Many items still had tags on them.
I'm really glad you talked about anxiety. I am a Christ follower. My hope and trust is in Jesus. But I find myself at times just bawling under the weight of the level of evil right now. God is reminding me to hold every thought captive and to stay in prayer without ceasing. Thank you Patera.
I understand, when I get weepy because of the rampant evil days I go right to my Bible. His Word pulls me into Him and centers me again. Staying in the Word gives me peace and strength. God is in control, always has been, always will be. God bless and keep you. 🙏🏻
For those who can sew look for 2-4X size clothes that are made from good quality fabrics. A girl's dress can easily be made from the fabric in a plus sized woman's blouse. Also consider saving some of the fabric from jeans with ripped knees etc. to be used as patch material for other items. Look at existing clothes as a source of fabric for 'new' clothes.
Preparing is just common sense. I tell people the worst thing that can happen if you prep and nothing happens is you dont have to shop for a while. Pray for the best, prepare for the worst. GOD bless
Yes, I started to do a general cleaning... I have many things that I no longer need... (too small or too big), I put them outside in boxes and they disappear in two or three hours! So there are people who need, who can no longer afford to buy... that's the reality! We help the community in any way we can, that's how I help!!! My dear virtual friends we live in an incredibly sad world, be strong and trust in the good God!🙏🏻 Sending you ❤️from Ottawa ❤️! God bless you all!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
While we are just two seniors, I've been using the guest towels and alternating with the beach towels since we no longer have a pool or room for company. We have two working sets of towels, one set peach and tan, the other dark green and aqua. Meanwhile I've picked up a set of blues, then a set of beigh towels. Most recently I picked up a set of medium greens. So towels are set. Still have a med kit (I think, it's been since 2015) in a duffle bag in closet. Still swamped with can goods. We already dug in to the packs of extra underwear, but they will last a while. Plenty of covers/quilts in our house. Plus a lifetime accumulation of sewing supplies and quilt batting, fabrics. A few years ago I bought a treadle Singer so that if stuff hit the fan and power went out, this old seamstress could mend and sew. About ready for a few years anyway unless our home is invaded. Good for a couple of years anyway.
Old sheets and blankets can cover windows to help keep the cold/heat out, plus during the Winter they can help close off rooms to keep the main part of your home warmer... not hot, but warmer. And yes in that warmer space you can make floor pallets to sleep on. It's about survival folks.
I also used those shrink wrap window covers this past winter. Those things are so great keeping cold out. You use a blow dryer to shrink them.great weatherization
Still prepping here at the beach in Washington State. So far this family of 7 can probably hang in here for good six months. But yesterday was out picking up long term preps. The gr-kids like beans and rice but they want butter and garlic on those beans and rice. So I picked up a case of butter along with 3 bags of extra rice and beans. And also grabbed up a couple flats of berries and a lug of early peaches. Please don’t ever think it’s to late to start building a pantry safety net. Today is today. And tomorrow is another day. It starts with 1 can or a pound of something to put aside. I pray Gods wisdom and blessing on all of this special community. From the beach here in Washington
Totes are great...one for small, one for XL, you get the idea. If nothing happens great, but at least 3 families in our part of the county have lost everything in fires this year and someone with a tote full of a size they need is a God send. I have totes full of fabric and sewing notions. Totes full of linens. A tote full of white cotton sheets that I've bleached and zipper bagged to make bandages if necessary. All the sheets came from a thrift store that sells them for a dollar. I'm not a hoarder...I'm a giver and things pass through my hands to folks that need them. We're not well off but our Lord has always provided and we've never gone without food or shelter ever. It's awesome to be His kid!
I have an obsession with blankets and throws. I find beautiful deals at my local thrift stores. Most are like brand new it's a good resource for clothing and shoes ect... Pantry is to the brim fresh veggies growing in the garden. God has blessed abundantly. I'm 64 years old and ride my bike 5 days a week . You inspire me to keep going , keep prepping, and draw closer to my Jesus. Ty darlin!
I grew up with a hoarder mama, married a hoarder who had a hoarder aunt. My mama is in hospice at a nursing home now and our Aunt passed away last year. We have ALL of their stuff along with ours and we kept a lot of stuff just incase………It may not 😂be our nice towels and clothes but as long as they do the job it’s all good. We are still wearing clothes from the last 20 yrs so we will make do. Thanks for showing us your baby goats. Brings back so many good memories. ❤️❤️
Growing my first successful container garden. Much work for not much but i know whats in it. Praying for monsoons to hit my house as its been 90-100 degrees and my water bill was over $300 🫤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Fixing to go through my preps to fill holes. Can use prayers for getting 22 crowns dug out to get dentures. Praying for easy recovery and time to get dentures before shtf. 😢 unbelievably expensive and hopefully will be feeling better soon. Ive been sick almost a decade and im too young to be retired. 😞🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Every closet in every home has clothes that never get worn, I turned all my hangers around. After one year if the hanger never got turned back around the other way, showed me how many I never wear. So I put them in a group, n made sure I wore them in the coming seasons. If I didn't wear them then I donated them. I believe we over buy. Impulse buying. I only bought 2 new pairs of jeans since 2020. New american made undies n socks when I can get them at flea markets. Recycling n repurposing our goods. Extra blankets in case of power outages. Batteries too.
At the end of winter we took inventory and bought boots, socks, toques, mitts and gloves which were on sale. Bought $300 ice/snow boots for $100, plus extra warm ankle boots. Went to recycle and got rugged warm overcoat. I have collected sheets, towels, blankets and duvets enough for the whole family if they arrive at our house. Been collecting material for sewing and have two machines, one a pedal (not electric). Now looking for used wool sweaters. They can be taken apart and re-knitted into different items. Bought crochet and knitting book to check what I may have forgotten. Can’t find my knitting needles so need to replace those. As summer ends, we will do the same looking for sturdy summer shoes, leather gloves, gardening supplies, and an extra rain water catchment barrel. Tough thing is house is small without an attic and small basement. Under every bed (raised up 4”) are storage containers with items by season. Every closet hanger bar has been adjusted to be exact length of clothes and shelves installed for shoe boxes with a picture on the front indicating what is inside. We pared down garage items but still need room for fresh water tank. I have 15, 20 gallon containers in the basement for winter emergencies. Last time city was 3 weeks without water and 7 days without electricity due to ice storm. Plus outside stored 3 large propane tanks for BBQ, and 6, 20 gallon gas containers for generator and vehicles. Can you guess… I lived through the shortages in 1970’s where lineups for gas were 5 miles long, if the station had any gas left.
This video comes at a time when a church in a nearby town always has a clothing give away. You know I was there when the doors opened this morning. I shop for me, my mother, and my daughter. There were things being given away that were brand new with the tags on!. Next week the children's clothing will be given away. My daughter and I will both be there shopping for her girls. Thank you for reminding us about storing things other than food.
Hand me downs will make a comeback among family members. Clothes when I was a child was never done after one season when 7 of us girls finished and outgrew everything it might get retired but if it had any life left it would go to a new home. There were play clothes and school clothes and then your Sunday best.
I've bought new jackets, sock, underwear when on sale. Need boots, gloves overalls, we spin and weave and knit, we make extra beanies to trade with folks made of wool. Bc we live in a foggy area
Hi Patara, may I add that we've got to stay focused always and be aware of our surroundings? Sounds simplistic but four months ago while walking my dog later in the evening I met with a silly accident. I wasn't paying attention and got my foot stuck in a broken edge of the cement road. I casually tried to twist it out and broke my bone just above the ankle! Ended up using a wheelchair for couple of months followed by a walker and still using a walking stick. Not something you want to happen when you live alone with a pet dependent on you for everything. Definitely not a weak foot hampering your fitness 😢
I had a dream years ago of a million people froze to death. It was so real and such a shaking I bought my husband and I new coats, boots, down comforters, wool socks, etc.
Local goodwill had a sidewalk sale. $10 to fill a garbage bag of clothes, $2 for shoes. I got 5 prs of shoes(new with tags) including a pair of work boots, 2 bags of clothes. Great minds Patara!! 😘🥰
Loved seeing the kids singing... have been getting things done..and at the same time, NOT allowing the world to get the best of me.. God has the best of me and has for me... Love ya all...
Still plenty things I need to buy but I think I’m better prepared than most. A lot of comments mention sewing. I agree. I can’t buy clothes locally. I’m 6’ 1” tall but only wear a size 10. I have a 36” inseam. Fortunately I can sew pretty much anything. I have lots of fabric. I even bought heavyweight denim to make pants for family. Go go go friends on this channel. You can do it ❤️🙏🥰
Awwww I would have had 3 in 5 years too but unfortunately I just miscarried our 3rd child. It was still too early to know if they were a boy or girl but I had a feeling the baby was going to be a boy. God blessed me with my boys. I couldn’t imagine this life without them.
I'm disabled and home bound. I live in sweats n t shirts. Right now I have a xmas t-shirt on. Haven't bought clothes in about 10 yrs except for tennis shoes and underwear.
An older lady came to my door on a bike a couple of hours ago, poor dear had on one top tooth that I could see. She said she lives two blocks over and just having an awful time. I offered her some canned food, she said she had some canned food from food bank but needed a few other things. I didn’t ask her what and maybe I should have asked as I may have had it🤷growing up in Chicago and myself having 5 con artist brothers (that took me for a ride or two) I am no stranger to a con. But I figured a few bucks wasn’t going to hurt me, (she promised she would pay it back in two weeks🤷). Then she seen my garden and asked for one of my green tomatoes because she hasn’t had a fried green tomato in decades. I gave her some. So I may have been had but maybe I just helped an old lady down on her luck. Have to chance it once in a while and let go of my cynical thinking at all times. Chicago and con artist family has has an affect and that isn’t who I want to be all the time. I mean sometimes the con is obvious but now and then it isn’t so why not. I have helped many people this year and got screwed a couple times but I don’t want to become so hardened that I turn even the small request away.
For years I’ve kept a journal of quips & quotes and one that comes to mind when I’m presented with a scenario like yours is… “It is another's fault if he be ungrateful, but it is mine if I do not give.” Lucius Seneca
Those black and yellow costco tub/tote things are the bomb! Lol. I swear, over time we've purchased like 20. We use them for food and clothing storage, temp rainwater catchment, saw dust storage, my cat sleeps in one, you can use them to cover ground for sprouting seeds for your chickens, they hold some of our chicken snacks. SO MANY USES FOR THOSE THINGS! Oh, we even turned one into a chicken feeder with one of those port-hole kits from Amazon. :)
Basic sewing skills are definitely needed. My grandma grew up during the Great Depression. Many times well worn adult clothing still have enough decent fabric to create a piece of children's clothing. Smaller pieces would be turned into quilt squares.
I have been busy canning peaches. We had a huge bounty this year. Now that I'm done canning peaches my mind went to winter and I have been thinking about the exact thing your video is about. My husband and I are pretty well set for summer items, I am waiting for the thrift stores to turn over to winter items. Bless you and your family Patara, you have kept me on track even though health and financial are rearing their ugly head.
Another item to have on hand for difficult days is flannel sheets. Very warm during times when central heat and electric blankets may not be an option!
I’m 65 and am dealing with Kidney stones. I had a third surgery today. They did a stent exchange. Been dealing with this for almost 4 weeks. I’m staying positive. Love this channel and the subscribers. I’m wishing everyone here well. Keeping all of us in thoughts and Prayers. 🙏💕
I am so grateful that my Mom taught me how to sew.I even opened my own small fabric and quilting shop in the '80's. Today I continue to sew and this summer I am teaching my granddaughter to sew, she's loving it. I gave her a goodie box as a Christmas gift with all sorts of sewing notions, scissors, gadgets and more and she really loved getting it.
We stocked up on bikes and bike trailers! And air pumps and such. The neighborhood might need someone to shuttle things around locally. And got a manual mower!
This is so timely I just saw the dietitian this morning and came home started sorting through all our clothes making sure we have enough of everything, getting my sewing machine in order and got a hard copy of how to draft patterns
We just had Debby come through our area. We only lost electricity for 2 hours but it was a great time to test our brand new solar system we had fully charged. It gave us a trial run and we made a list of things that will improve our situation. Ordered head lamps, more outdoor solar lights that we can bring inside for one thing. We are working on extending our pantry for a longer period of time. A lot of the you tubers are saying step up your prepping.
I have some old twin sheets that my children had when they were little they have like dinosaurs and hello Kitty and different things on them that they have out grown. I take three or four of them and layer them with a plain sheet on the bottom and top you have a wonderful quilt and you don’t see the dinosaurs or the kitties anymore, but the warmth of them is unbelievable.
The rule of thumb in Maine, before modern heating & cooling systems, was that there should be five woolen blankets in the home for each inhabitant i.e. if four people live in a house there should be twenty 100% wool blankets on hand. Maine was a part of the North American continent where paralyzing blizzards & severe snow storms could trap people in their homes for two weeks or so. Wool blankets can save lives in a worst case scenario when temperatures drop & there's no source of heat. 🐑🤍🐑
this....definitely do it. i have been collecting and saving clothes for my family since my first child was born. i have 4 kids now and i pass clothes along to others and save for the next child. i jave womens clothes in every size up to xl. all in plastic totes labeled by size and gender. a young single mom of 2 at our church had a house fire this past year. she lost EVERYTHING except the clothes on their backs. well, guess who had clothes for her and both her children. i also went threw my kitchen and gave her any kitchen tools i didn't use regularly. it needed to be gone threw anyways. having more then enough is a blessing that gives you an opportunity to bless others
If you're like me and have issues with your feet, maybe purchase inserts and arch supports for those bargain shoes/boots that might need them. Look for those buy one/get one sales. The end of Christmas season is a great time to get those flannel sheets for a bargain price as well. Thanks, Ms. Patara, for all the helpful tips and encouragement. Now if it would only cool off a bit, I could get outside!
I'm doing all this and more, except sowing need to work on that. Good info from her. I have 4 new pair steel toe boots put away for when the stuff hits the fan. I also have a box of old worn out shoes. I could get some more wear out of those old shoes if I had to. I'm 60,I used to think I would spend retirement years enjoying myself and maybe travel some. Instead I'm going to be dealing with the world gone crazy. I always heard about the end times since a kid,it's wild to be now living in the end times!
I just started having unexpected allergic reaction these few days and I don't know whats causing it except that I know that I been feeling very stressed. I went to the emergency room and the doctors office. Im bout to get an epi pen today. Things that I ate or have for long times is making me have a reaction. I just started going back to the gym so to relieve this stress because my blood pressure is insane. I pray and cut out all the news today. Patara, I still have to watch your channel because I love it. Spiritual warfare it feels like.
I’m part of an Adventist group and we are stocking up on beans, rice, socks, gloves, all kinds of winter stuff. We are also collecting firewood, blankets and whatever we can find to help others too.
Elastic will frequently wear out way before the rest of the clothing items - like underwear- and provide an easy mend. It is cheap and will keep just fine for a very long time. I keep various kinds in glass jars in my sewing room.
Me too. I sew a lot and always watch for sales on notions and other sewing essentials. My granddaughte is learning to sew and she sees the benefit of having something on hand when you are ready to sew.
Sleeping bags, but buy them new. I go to Goodwill to look for extra blankets and quilts. You can take two blankets and sew them together for extra warmth. If you have worn out towels, cut them up with pinking shears (prevents fraying) for cleaning cloths, wash cloths, and hand towels. Save jars. When you store rice, beans, and grains put some bay leaves in them to keep pests away. Save coffee cans for storage.
I clean and save jars and lids for later use. For a while I did it just to have something to put flowers in when I gave the flowers to others and didn't have a vase, but now I think having spare jars makes sense. In the event that someone comes to you that needs something like a food item, you can put some in the clean jar and give it to them. However I am concerned about the many who probably have almost nothing in their kitchen and eat out all the time. If the stores close, there are lockdowns or curfews they would be the ones that might become desperate or demanding.
I felt the need to hang onto all my quilts , afghans ,blankets , comforters etc when I was urged to thin out my collection. I said no bc there may come a day when we need them for warmth or to make a "Georgia Bed" to sleep on or someone may need some. I always go to $ General after Christmas and get mittens ,gloves scarves ,beanies and sweat pants & pullovers for 75 - 90% off ! I pack em up and when I see some idy who needs em I pass them on some. I've been buying the hand warmer packets too. I've got several pairs of leather gloves good for cutting wood etc. Just listen to your spirit when it prompts you on things don't brush it off ! 🕊️ Thanks Patara ! We love 💕 you ! You're my kinda people 💖🌻🙏😇🌺🐐!!!
Hi Patara and everyone. Praying for you all. Packing up for Oklahoma. Going through storage, my sewing and jewelry making supplies are a requirement, I can whip up earrings and make a few bucks in minutes. My pantry is going- that includes medical supplies like sutures and tools like nailers and saws and things. We intend to join a specific church community in the SW MO area, some of these pantry items can go to feed the people who meet every week as a thanks for livestreaming the weekly service. My freezer and washer and dryer are going, have a few things we'll have to come back up here for. Taking my sewing machine in to get looked at, it's a Babylock and acting funny. Doing that now while it's an option. The repair guy accepts goldbacks for payment, which we do have. That'll save the paper money for gas stations on the way down. Heads up, if you're in Wyoming we're seeing a whole lot of "strangers" here in Casper. I NEVER go anywhere unarmed now. I can tell who is here illegally by how they react to the 9mil or 380 on my hip- they either stare at it/me, or they blanch. Where are their women and kids? I saw two men in a group of about a dozen men, and I'll put it this way- those two men didn't need women, they had each other. 😮 I don't want or need to hear about "better lives for their families". What families? There's a reason we're not seeing their women and kids, the powers that be AREN'T sending heterosexual men, do you hear me now? That tells me where their conscience lies. These are the "replacements". Laugh at me if you want, but I'd suggest spending that laughing time on something more productive like learning to shoot. Stay safe y'all, and God bless y'all.

Yes we love those yard sales!

Thank you

One thing my 26 year old daughter and her girlfriends do is they host a clothing swap party. They all get together at one girls house, they share a meal and swap clothing. I think these young ladies are on to something. They thrift and they share with each other. Proud mamma here.
Wow I love that idea!! Myself and my daughters love love love op shopping.

U just named off my sewing table/cabinet!
I've done the same thing, and also kept all old sheets etc. I remember when oldies used to cut sheets into strips and resew to put the thin part at the bottom to get more use out of them.
If you don't have a darning egg, use a light bulb.

Still prepping. Bought 6 cans of food, 2 boxes powdered milk, baking soda, baking powder, oat meal, and 1 container of powdered buttermilk and 2 containers salt.
Oh snaps I for got the salt and flour and canned salmon. buttme too
I always have a container of powedered buttermilk in my fridge. Get large bags of baking powder at walmart for hardly anything - transfer them to glass jars.
Not in my fridge, in my freezer is the powdered buttermild
We just bought 50lbs of Redmond Real salt for our stock.

Do you have a book reference for all these great ideas???
Thanks for all the great ideas
Who wants to laugh?
I've only ever heard the word "britches" in reference to pants, so you can imagine my confusion when I read "learn to make leather britches with your green beans."
LOL!

If I don't walk 4 miles a day ( 67 yrs old here) my anxiety goes thru the roof... God and I have alot to talk about when I m out on a country roads.
That sounds like a wonderful walk.
I'm walking daily. Even on Sunday. 10,000 steps minimum. I'll be 71 in a couple of weeks. I've lost 43 lbs. I'm doing my best, with my health conditions, to get in better shape.
Great job!! I’m doing 2 miles daily

I did the same for my Grands.

It is! I remember my grandmother talking about it also & World wars. Anything can go down at any moment, so we need to be vigilant!
My mom told me similar stories from her childhood during the Depression. It’s hard for us to believe that could happen again.
I'm glad you're addressing this issue. I have probably a dozen black Costco buckets full of brand new clothes/shoes that I find on clearance. I have them all labeled so I can find things
My husband and daughters are thinking less and less than I'm crazy.
Homeschooling my youngest this year. I’m so happy to be getting him out of public school.
Isn’t it something? All of us can feel it in our bones that something’s coming - I didn’t feel like this 10 years ago. Now I just have this knowing that we are headed into something. I try not to worry/stress because I know Christ is king. But I certainly feel it and pray for our nation.
It’s okay to prepare. It means you are being a good steward with today’s blessings.

GOD bless

I remember being told never throw away any blanket. They can be used for so many things!
Hang blankets on interior walls helps with cold.

Don’t forget to snuggle!
That would be a scary dream for sure!
Check out the concept of Kotatsu tables for warmth. It’s brilliant ❤

I say we're going to be blasted with ARTIC WINTER 🥶❄️😢
Terribly sorry for your loss. God bless you and your family. 😢
❤
Sorry.Prayers
My doctor told me when I miscarried, that it was God taking care of both of us! Felt Blessed.
Peace be with you and your families.
I'm disabled and home bound. I live in sweats n t shirts. Right now I have a xmas t-shirt on. Haven't bought clothes in about 10 yrs except for tennis shoes and underwear.
Hello from Southern California! Busy being the salt and the light here! God bless you all

So true. It's hard to let down the armor. Blessings to ya'll.

I enjoy reading the comments. They're packed with so much useful information and wisdom. Thanks everyone!
Basic sewing skills are definitely needed. My grandma grew up during the Great Depression. Many times well worn adult clothing still have enough decent fabric to create a piece of children's clothing. Smaller pieces would be turned into quilt squares.
👍 exactly
Precious children. Lord please bless those people!
I pray with all my heart that the language of the Cherokee is taught until the end of time!

Hubby and just bought a 5 acre property down a country road, just to have “in case”. Good luck everyone. Pray and prep.

Awesome, how many ways to get there and how long it takes, at different times of day. If you don't know the answers then I'd be finding out.
My first husband was 1/4 Cherokee and therefore 3 of my sons are 1/8 Cherokee! I told them they need to do a family tree 😊

Having sewing skills from my highschool class that the nuns taught us I'm so grateful for because it comes in handy in times like these!
@@joycedagostino8869 wow that's so awesome, thanks for the idea I'm going to start teaching my daughter now!
even with a ruler rap from Sister! I am glad I got those skills down. We had Home Ec too, but it was called Wifely Skills. lol.
I live by the best Motto I ever heard pertaining to life in general.... "Plan for the worst...Hope for the best" Because it will not let you down.
I'm in SC also and lost power for 2 hours!

Mainer here, you are sooo very right. Stock to the gills.
Thank you for sharing.
this....definitely do it. i have been collecting and saving clothes for my family since my first child was born. i have 4 kids now and i pass clothes along to others and save for the next child. i jave womens clothes in every size up to xl. all in plastic totes labeled by size and gender. a young single mom of 2 at our church had a house fire this past year. she lost EVERYTHING except the clothes on their backs. well, guess who had clothes for her and both her children. i also went threw my kitchen and gave her any kitchen tools i didn't use regularly. it needed to be gone threw anyways. having more then enough is a blessing that gives you an opportunity to bless others
Here in Florida I just planted late summer/fall garden. Okra,Beans,Squash,Sweet Potatoes 🙏
If it's digestive at all, try avoiding gluten. See if that helps.
Your Eppi pen can help if you have anaphylaxis reaction to bees or fire ants.
Try Benadryl before bed
Those twitchy tails get me smiling every time!! 😊😊😊😊
I know they're so precious
I love jars. I put pastas in them, too.
Yesss! Bay leaf!

Hey Girl! Homesteading in SW Missouri going on 6 years ! Got the heck away from Chicago area!!
