GRANDISSIMO INGEMAR.
JC Killy up there with 'the greatest'. A fantastic racer dominating the first World Cup in '67 (won 12 of 17 races) then won 3 Olympic gold medals in Grenoble and easily won the World Cup again in '68 to 'retire' at age 24.
No, not Stenmark. The best has to, hands down, overall go to Girardelli, objectively speaking. Stenmark was phenomenal in slalom and GS where he excelled, with an equally great personality to match. He did not drift into downhill as he knew that was not a capability he possessed. I admire Stenmark on all levels and am glad to see that he has still maintained his health which speaks volumes for discipline. The people of Sweden and the skiing world should always celebrate Stenmark. I wish him and his the best, always.
death2pc I respect your opinion, but I think it's Stenmark. Most of the so called "legendary" skiiers have recognized him as the greatest. He is a natural, in all sports(he competed in champion of the champions and won).
***** I raced with both, Stenmark was the best of all time. Gira great guy and skier, but Stenmark 86 world cup wins vs Gira 46 (35 if you take out the combined victories). Stenmark's dominance was such that they rewrote the rules to stop him winning the overall world cup each season.
Ronald Duncan Maybe you can comment on this - watching this clip what's impressive to me is how Stenmark looks slow. It looks like nothing is happening. I'm guessing it's how he keeps his skis on the snow, like a good violinist keeps the bow on the strings.

A fantastic racer dominating the first World Cup in '67 (won 12 of 17 races) then in '68 won 3 Olympic gold medals in Grenoble and the World Cup again to 'retire' at age 24. Technically, he was the first 'modern' racer (radically so) under Georges Joubert ('jet turns', 'avalement'', 'serpent'), techniques perfected with Stenmark and other specialists.
JC Killy was paid a lot more to quit, going professional with IMG, who had Palmer, Player, and Nicklaus in Golf and Rod Laver in Tennis. The ski federation stopped that from happening with Stenmark giving him a pro licence, which stopped him competing in Olympics but allowed him to carry on in World Cup. The world cup was a much bigger event by Stenmark's time. E.g. We had to ban helicopters because all the teams got them to speed up training and there was not enough space.
Hockey players didn't wear helmets till mid 70's, amateur boxers didn't wear helmets till mid 80's, cyclists didn't wear helmets till mid 90's...so, why do you think that same logic didn't work in other dangerous sports?
The greatest of all times does not exist. you can't compare different period of times, you can't compare downhill and slalom, you can't compare specialized skiers like Stenmark or Tomba, with racers running all events. There is a best of his generation, and there are records, that's all
Ingemar will always be the greatest skier. He's a fine human being, too.
He inspired a lot of us, on and off the race course.
And will be glad if it happens, that it Michaela ,is the one who breaks his record in the events , that he loved giant slalom, and slalom
When the alpine was beautiful to watch. No one like Stenmark. 👌
SO GREAT TO SEE INGEMAR STENMARK AGAIN FROM HIS MANY VICTORIES!

The greatest! Girardelli undoubtly a good follower...
Grazie !!! Non ci sono tanti video su di lui. Poi questa è storica: la prima gara di coppa del Mondo sulla Gran Risa.
It was from him that I learned the importance of putting your downhill knee into the back of your uphill knee. Just beautiful to watch.
The greatest skiier of all time!

Ronald Duncan Stenmark était au ski ce que borg était au tennis.
Ce sont eux qui ont fait connaitre leur discipline.

Killy just won 3 Olympic gold medals because of IOC Mafia!!!!
Schranz had won at least one of these gold medals!!!!
@@panini5067 😂😂😂😂
@@panini5067 likely, but not sure. but still remains the most successful together with sailer and the most versatile.
No helmets? How fucking nuts are these guys...

Super G was "invented" because of him. No skier in the history provoked such reaction.
what kind of person who not like this...😃😃 looooser
la gran risa è l'unica pista su cui ho avuto paura.
