Just an idea for outside your windows, instead of a pergola or more permanent roof over the windows, look into retractable sun awnings. That way, If you want the sunshine, you just roll them up, or when it gets too hot, just roll them out. They are much like an awning on an RV.
You might want to look into some bed risers for the table, to see how you like the height, and if you miss sitting down at all - might even be a permanent solution so you don't have to get rid of that gorgeous table!
Hi Laura I’d love to know more about your tray of supplies pretty please. I love the idea of having a few things I can move around when I get around to journaling. Thank you. ❤ Love your new studio space.
Hi Hayley, I will run through in a future video!! It's lovely that you commented here as I was just looking at your art in your online shop yesterday, trying to decide on a piece to purchase. So hard as I love so many of them!! I must make a decision ❤
You might look into a large drafting desk for standing. My husband used to have one that was a beautiful oak one with a large top that could be used flat or tilted. It was great for standing at, or he used a drafting chair, the chair was adjustable to drafting height or lowered to sit at his regular desk. Thanks for sharing your beautiful space , I'm truly enjoying your classes
That’s a great idea, I will look into it. I’m not in any rush as I want to get a better idea of what type of work I’ll be using the space for. Happy to hear that you are enjoying the classes 😊🎨🙏
Thank you for welcoming us into your space, Laura! Natasha Newton has a TH-cam video on her creative space and shows a really cool table that looks like it raises/lowers smoothly (& effortlessly I think). When we use toxic acrylics & mediums we don’t wash them down the sink 🐟🐠, but we allow them to dry then peel it off from our old thrift store ceramic dishes then dispose. If mixed in water pour into shallower/wider old trays and place outside (put a screen to prevent animals & birds), then when the water has evaporated scrape or peel out the acrylic / other toxic mat’ls and dispose as safely to the 🌍 as possible. Thank you Laura! Your upcoming course looks wonderful!! Really love your work! ❤
You have a wonderful and cozy art space. Love all the windows, baskets and your special touches to your art studio. I would enjoy the swatches of the Daniel Smith paints. Thank you for sharing!
Your studio is a work of art in itself. Personally, I find a comfortable chair or cot is necessary in my studio. Sometimes I get fatigued and need to take a quick nap. Relaxing the mind is also essential in problem solving and stress reduction.
What a beautiful space! I think it reflects a lot of what makes you feel happy and safe that connects you with yourself. Thanks for sharing your tips, I specially love the rituals. We all learn from each other 🙏🏼❤️🌻
Thank you and I totally agree, the space feels very inviting and personal which is one of the reasons I love being in it so much. Always makes me smile when I open the door. A little slice of heaven.
Laura, Thanks for sharing your beautiful, new art studio. I am so happy for you. I am inspired to add some lovely touches to my space.. plants, baskets for storage, storage in large closets so that studio feels calm and inviting. Take care😊
You’ve created such a beautiful space! It’s seems like you’ve really taken your time and been thoughtful about how you want it to feel. I love that it’s so pretty and neatly organized. I’m one who can’t work in a chaotic space. Thanks for giving us such a slow and thorough tour! Really appreciate it ❤
Really lovely space!! If you put your art table on risers, and got an adjustable chair/bar stool, you would be able to sit or stand easily. Also, storage units with shelves or drawers would fit under the table (maybe just on the ends, leaving plenty of leg space in the center mass of the table. It's possible your current IKEA furniture would fit nicely. I hope you plan on a part two video -- I found this video very inspiring.
Great studio space! Everytime you move your creative space it gets better and better! Wanted to suggest buying one of the up/down desks or tables. That way you have both options depending on whether you are feeling like standing (or not) at the moment. That cabinet behind your table is beautiful, but you mentioned several times needing more flat work space. So I'd suggest putting the cabinet in front of the big windows (in front of the easel) and putting your current flat table where the cabinet is right now. That will allow you to have two flat workspaces one in front of you and one behind you. You can use the surface to lay wet gelli prints on and to work on other pieces in stages - moving the ones that need to dry behind you and continue working on the up/down table in front of you. Also, that table (after placed behind you) could have additional Ikea cabinets and drawers under it for more storage of supplies and tools.
I have an electric table for my studio and I love it! It was expensive but worth it. I have a thick piece of plastic that is to size on top, and I put a plastic picnic table cloth over that. I cut a hole in the cloth so I can get to the controls. The best thing I bought for sure.
How very lovely to have this space. A dream! You’ve made it look just perfect. A sink too! Funny - I had to google “bench” in Australia because here is US a bench is a low, long seating (like for picnic tables)! Learned something new! I got my “bench” height table from IKEA, it has a crank that makes it go up and down, but I always keep mine up. Standing feels so much better on my body! For my normal height desk/table, I use a folding laptop stand and I can stand there too. Easily found on Amazon. Enjoy your space!!!
What a wonderful new studio, Laura!!! You've decorated it so beautifully with your plants (necessities for me, too!) and artwork!!! Love the cabinet and i agree that a comfortable armchair beside it would be most useful!!! Gorgeous garden views all around!!! The water tank is calling to you for a painted scene of some sort - can you hear it 🙃 Have fun enjoying it all, and if you have time would love to see the new Daniel Smith watercolours!!! All the best wishes to you and your husband in your fabulous new workspace!!! 💕💕💕
What fun, how exciting. I remember when I finally had a dedicated space, an extra bedroom, and how fun it was to set it up with all my art supplies. Enjoy.
I have height adjustable Husky workbenches/work tables from Home Depot that I love. They're metal with a wood top, are on wheels, have a hand crank so nothing needs to be plugged in, and they have two flat file style drawers that you don't have to install if you don't want to. They also come in different lengths. I don't know if you have access to them in Australia, but if you need ideas, they're worth looking at.
Lovely studio space! Regarding the panels hiding the sink, what if you took them off, used them as a canvas and paint some of your lovely artwork on them, varnish and then hang them back as panels hiding your sink? Could look fab and would certainly liven them up!
Beautiful and inspiring space. It’s lovely to see the development over the last couple of months. Gelli plate printing is so addictive and so much fun. If you ever do a course ‘what to do with a mountain of gelli prints and collage papers ‘ I’m in 😂. Can’t wait to see the swatching and any future work inspired in your new space. Thank you for sharing ☺️
Laura, rather than getting rid of your beautiful farmhouse table, could you just extend the legs? Maybe like the furniture legs you can get from bunnings? Or, alternatively, can you remove the legs and replace with longer ones? It seems a shame to not use the table as it has all that Art energy now in it's surface. :)
Beautiful space!!! Congratulations! The white primes board under the bassin, in my opinion, should stay as is and get painted naturally over time with splatter and happy accidents 😉
My hubby put our huge vintage dining table on wheels for me - which raised it slightly - it's oak and was too heavy to move for entertaining. Your hubby could add some kind of wood risers on the table legs and then add the wheels. When I moved into my remote studio years ago, we put wheels/casters on 99% of the furniture. I think that wheels and multiple Lazy-Susans are requirements for an efficient studio! Plus North light if you can get it! I also like shoe organizers on my table tops and counters. Take advantage of vertical space! fs
My creative space is in my family dining room. We have a 2.4m long dining table, one end for me to create and the other end for eating. This setup is perfect for me as my family can see my creative process and what I’m doing and I get to be around enjoying their company too.
What a beautiful studio! You asked about ideas for a standing desk/table…we purchased a secondhand bar cart to use as a coffee station. My husband and I are tall, and the cart is a rather old piece with shorter dimensions. The lady who sold it to us had a skilled woodworker in her shop. She very kindly offered to have him cut the legs at a joint and add in extra length to the legs using the same wood as the cart. Then he stained the added pieces to match the existing wood. It is now the perfect height for us, and you would never know by looking at it which part of each leg wasn’t original. I don’t know how attached you are to that table, as far as whether you’d want to have something similar done (or you or your husband do it, if either of you has that skill set). At first, I felt very nervous about altering an antique piece of furniture…but I’m so glad now that we did, because the whole point is to be able to use and enjoy things. We took something that wouldn’t have worked for us, and thanks to that woodworker it’s now like it was made for us. Whatever you choose to do, I hope you find a solution you like for your standing workstation. And again - I love your studio. You are very fortunate to have such a peaceful retreat for your studio. And it is kind of you to share the space via TH-cam. Have a great day!
What a beautiful sacred space for making art Laura and you've put things together in such a beautiful way. Very inspiring for me, as I've just moved to a new place and will be designing my very first art studio at home. I would love to see swatches of these new Daniel Smith paints. They look exquisite and sound intriguing ❤
Congrats on your new studio space! I really like seeing videos of artists' studio tours! My vote is to leave the under-sink cabinet doors white. Just paint them will really good paint that can be wiped down. As an artist and designer, I tend to lean towards monochrome [visual] art studios. So if the majority of the decor and furnishings are white (for instance) than keep that consistency throughout. Whether your paint/keep them white or decorated the doors, add hinges. I live in Central Texas. My studio also has a lot of large/long windows. I put up mini blinds that can be opened based on who much light I want to let in or I raise them all the way up then close the sheer curtains to filter the natural light without the windows being completely covered up. I never use my air conditioning unless I have an event or guests. I keep my windows open (they have screens) and turn on my ceiling fans and other fans. Even on days when it's in the 90s and low 100s.
love the space. so light, lots of light, love that you can look out to the garden. Why not have shelves under the sink, extra storage, then put some doors in and paint them. Thank you so much for sharing, i am trying to do up my dbl shed as my studio.
Thank you Laura for showing us your studio. It’s lovely, bright and relaxing. I have a room that I call my ‘personal room’ because it has a desk, computer, tv and a lounge chair, (which my cat adores.) Mine is very relaxing too which is essential for me. Love your way of teaching. I’ve completed 2 of your classes and they were fantastic, I learned so much. Thank you.😊
Thanks Paulene, it's such a blessing to have a personal space to relax and explore. Yours sounds lovely! I wish my cat was at my studio. He's at my home waiting for me every day, though.
Your space is just gorgeous, Laura, and clearly shows the time and thought you put into creating it. I love seeing your work bringing life to it. Since you asked about the covering to hide the pipes by your sink, I'd be tempted to leave it white so not to draw attention away from the work on the wall. I'd rather have the sink not become a focal point but let it sit quietly -- and very usefully -- above that white space. What about climbing plants for your pergola to provide some shade and flowers? Thank you so much for giving us a mouth watering tour of your magical place.
Oh wow! what a beautiful space for your art making. It would be a shame to get rid of the 100yr old table, but I just wanted to give you a heads up about an Ikea table I purchased which can be raised to whatever height suits you. I often spend time standing whilst gel printing 😀or painting, but have a height- adjustable chair to sit on too. Would love to see how those Daniel Smith colours swatch out. A definite Christmas wish list!
I'm in the process of converting our 2 car garage into my new art studio. Well, art studio/guest bedroom. I will have a sofa couch sleeper. I am so thrilled to finally have my space. Your video was lovely. I took away some great ideas! Thank you for sharing and I hope you continue to do so!
I love your studio and all that gorgeous light. The plants add so much to the space. Speed ball brayers are the best in my opinion. Bed risers are a great idea for your table. I have a big wood desk in my studio that is from 1912. I cant wait to see your watercolor paintings. I've been really wanting to get the Schmincke super granulating Shire collection. Thanks for sharing your very inspiring studio. I love it.
Lovely organization Laura! I would definitely encourage you to get a chair.....I have a couch and absolutely love it! I find it essential in my studio for studying the work, a place for invited guests to sit, and me to nap!
Hi Laura gosh this video gave me chills (happy ones) with the similarities to my recent studio set up - I added dowel to my dear old table to make it higher and painted them black - I too purchased a wonderful old Chinese cabinet that makes my heart sing and I am loving adding plants - I also love your art and will be signing up for some courses. (Also on the lookout for some fairy lights!!) if I can figure out how to add photos I will, Thanks for sharing it was inspiring!
Such a beautiful studio and beautiful art. I love the setting, looks so peaceful. Regarding your table, I had a similar requirement. So my husband put on four heavy-duty industrial wheels we bought at Bunnings NZ. It does make a height difference but also factor in your own height. About my space, I have as I call it an Art-Shed in the back of the garden. My challenge is it is slanted, but adds to the character. Oh how I wish for a sink, but have come up with a solution (mainly for water) bought a camping water container with a tap and put it on the Ikea trolley (added glass covered with a non-slip mat). Did not know about the other top until I saw yours. Thanks for sharing your space.
What a wonderful set up. I have a bedroom set up as my studio where I do my art and photography but I am fast running out of space so I definitely envy you. Very inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
Lovely, inspiring place for you to settle in for your art practice. I love how you have showcased your art on your walls! I am looking forward to your new class. Oh, and I'm into gelli printing slso and looking forward to experimenting adding it to my painting. Never thought of that! You are awesome and I continue to learn so much from you.
I'm super lucky to have a home studio (which is a converted carport outside the house), as well as an external studio at an art gallery studio collective on the Parade at Norwood :)
I enjoyed this so much. I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful hand painted wooded piece you were so fortunate to find. My Aunt painted furniture and iron pieces in that style…I think it’s called tole painting. Thank you so much for a look inside your delightful new studio.🥰
Hi Laura. Enjoyed your video. Re an art desk, not sure if you have Husky brand in AUS but in the US, i recently bought the 62” long husky adjustable work bench. It’s been awesome. It’s on casters so I can easily move it around my studio and I can adjust the height with a crank to standing level but then when I get tired adjust it back down ti sitting. It has two huge drawers to store supplies. Also I think you should paint your cabinet drawers as you would an abstract painting
A beautiful studio ❤️. I am looking at getting a mobile work table that I can stand or sit at, & an office chair that I can move up & down depending on where I am working. This might work for you too. Thanks for sharing your space 💙
I am really enjoying your wonderful journey as an artist and to have such a wonderful space is definately a goal we all have. Seeing all your beautiful artworks on the walls is definately a fantastic addition to your space and processes. I would love a video or even a series on how you sell your artwork. For example do you show in local galleries or other community spaces? Do you just sell from your online pressence? I guess kind of an insight into what to do with all the completed works. As an artist in the early stages I want to paint so many things but I stop myself for fear of having too many paintings collecting dust in my own home. Thank you for sharing.
What a beautiful space to create! Thank you for sharing. I am a mixed media artist too so I understand having a place for all the supplies we use. I find new materials everywhere I go and am constantly rearranging my studio to best fit my needs. I am looking forward to taking your new class too. It has been my dream to visit Australia since I was a child. If all goes well, that dream will come true next year. Planning the trip now.
Inspiring, peaceful space and what a blessing to have to gardens accessible for lovely views and art resources. Would love to know the source of your baskets. Thanks for sharing and inspiring, Laura!
What a wonderful inspiring space. Thankyou for sharing. I brought a jeli plate some time ago and haven't used it yet. I might just Try it this weekend x
I would definitely like to see the luminescent Daniel Smith watercolors in a demo. They are something I've hesitated getting mostly due to the cost. Will they work with mixed media or just alone with other watercolors? I would also love to see how the needle tip glue applicators work. There are a ton of them on Amazon, too many to choose from. If you like them, I would love a link to the ones you got. Thanks Laura! Your art space is really coming together. Just need that A/C installed Richie!
Hi Laura I've just come across your channel and loving all the details of a renewed art space. 🎨 where are you located? It sounds so blissful over there. Thanks for sharing so many ideas 💡 from Denmark 🇩🇰
Really lovely studio Laura and it is so beautifully organised and decorated which is something I love to do as well although, I tend to overdo things with a bit too much sometimes and suck the oxygen out of the room. 😅 For the panels under the sink, perhaps you could use the garden as inspiration and paint some greenery and plants on the front of the panels, as you mentioned having more plants inside makes you happy. Maybe you could do some more Gelli plate printing and do it as a collage. 🪷
Thanks for sharing this. What a lovely space. The armchair sounds like a great addition. How on earth do you manage not to get paint on your red rug? Love all the plants.
The fern will grow large. Quicker and more if you repot it. Also shade clothe still lets light in, just diffuses it a bit. Youd of had summer by now so you probably sorted that.
Just an idea for outside your windows, instead of a pergola or more permanent roof over the windows, look into retractable sun awnings. That way, If you want the sunshine, you just roll them up, or when it gets too hot, just roll them out. They are much like an awning on an RV.

I am seriously considering this, as the more I work, the more I realise that I enjoy both sitting and standing, depending on what I am doing.
What a lovely place. And I agree that a comfy chair will be super.
So happy for you! Just beautiful! 🤗

love the space. so light, lots of light, love that you can look out to the garden.
You have a gentle demeanor. Thanks for sharing your lovely studio.
So nice of you, thank you for watching!
Love love love your space! ❤❤❤ very Inspiring! Thank you ❤️
I enjoyed this very much and will now embark on re-organizing my "art corner" in an office I share with my husband!
Hi from Murray Bridge - isn't the weather awesome!!!!
A definite Christmas wish list!
you could try shade cloth across the pergola which can be removed after summer and blocks under the table legs to raise it up higher
Your art is beautiful, especially your colour combos!
Yes, do an awesome painting on those panels!
what an inspiring space!
Thanks for sharing your awesome studio! It’s a special place, enjoy it!
So lovely. Can't wait to see what creative ideas you are inspired to follow!
Omg this space is divine! - AND a garden, shower and toilet! I’d be putting a bed in there too… 🤭
I love your studio and all that gorgeous light.
Thank you for showing us around your beautiful space ❤️
Hi Laura gosh this video gave me chills (happy ones) with the similarities to my recent studio set up - I added dowel to my dear old table to make it higher and painted them black - I too purchased a wonderful old Chinese cabinet that makes my heart sing and I am loving adding plants - I also love your art and will be signing up for some courses. (Also on the lookout for some fairy lights!!) if I can figure out how to add photos I will, Thanks for sharing it was inspiring!
What a fabulous tour with lots of inspiration and advice....I really enjoyed it. Thankyou so much Laura
thank you for sharing this beautiful space...................so inspiring
What a lovely peaceful space. Very inspiring. And yes, please do a film of you swatching the watercolours, I would love to see that.
What a wonderful set up. I have a bedroom set up as my studio where I do my art and photography but I am fast running out of space so I definitely envy you. Very inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
I love it! Some fantastic storage solutions and beautiful light. Your artwork is just amazing! ♥
Would love to see a demo video on how you use the gelli plate. I have one, but haven’t really had the best results with it.
I spritz the jar of heavy gel medium periodically to moisten and soften it. Just with water. Works well.
Love the video. Thank you for sharing your space with us, it is beautiful . Love your work hanging all over, what an inspiration!! Much ❤
What a beautiful space to create!
What a beautiful, light space Laura..filling up nicely!
Will you talk about why you varnish your work and what kind you use please.
Hi Laura I've just come across your channel and loving all the details of a renewed art space. 🎨 where are you located? It sounds so blissful over there. Thanks for sharing so many ideas 💡 from Denmark 🇩🇰
Your space is gorgeous 😍
Love it Laura❤❤!!!!!❤!!!!!
Raise the table and get a higher chair so you are able to use it sitting or standing. Beautiful space.
This space looks wonderful. Wishing you many creative hours of painting. Did I miss where you bought your easel ?
The link to the easel is in the video description! Happy creating to you 😊💖
Thanks for sharing this. What a lovely space. The armchair sounds like a great addition. How on earth do you manage not to get paint on your red rug? Love all the plants.
Laura, your new creative space is beautiful, ... Can I ask were you purchase your golden products from in Australia??? Cheers Lucy
Thanks for sharing! Curious as to whether u put down any plastic or other protection under your easel over the pretty rug? 💕
The fern will grow large. Quicker and more if you repot it. Also shade clothe still lets light in, just diffuses it a bit. Youd of had summer by now so you probably sorted that.
Wonderful tips, thank you so much!
Beautiful studio. Do you mix the pastel ground into the paint? looks interesting
I think leave the boards over the pipes white or cream, there is so much going on in the room it would be nice to keep it restful as is, imo 😊
