Tip 1 is so true. When I was doing iRacing, I wasn't hunched over like you, but in an effort to get the most FoV I could, I was sitting as close to the wheel and monitor as I could manage. It was a really awkward seating position. If I was doing anything longer than an ARCA race, I was getting really severe lower back pain and it's hard to try and get better when all you can think about is pain. I wish I would've switched to a more comfortable seating position sooner.
I built a cockpit and got a Dodge Charger 2023 seat for $40, and it has better back support than my ~$350 Ergochair. It's so good for posture, I've mostly switched to using my cockpit instead of my desk for PC usage. Using a big 65" TV instead of monitors, and I angle it so I'm looking a little up at the TV to reduce the bit of "nerd neck" I've developed over years of gaming on handhelds. Doing some good.
9 not practicing green flag pit stops. It’s all fun and games until you have to stop under green. Out lap and pit road speed could be the difference in winning and 10th
Sure depends on the series and often luck... but when we do get those long runs it is sure nice to have at least 2 good practice rips into the pits at race pace and worn tires. Finding the right entry and hitting braking can make a HUGE difference in the heat of the moment. Easily break a great run down with loss of control, speeding penalty or overshooting pits from otherwise small mistakes.
As I moved over to oval from road, I kept your tire saving advice in mind. Without giving up too much time, I was able to get my first A-Fixed win at Darlington from having the most tire at the end of the race!
Me and Justin are very similar. He loves Pokemon and racing, I love Zelda and racing. :D Okay but on a serious note, these are very helpful tips! I do have good posture and desk setup for my racing which helps for sure. BTW Justin, you know there's this thing you can do: Stack some books on your desk, and put your monitor on top! Instant posture fix! 👍
Thanks for the GL at the end of the Arca race tonight, just finished the race right after and won! Really appreciate the tip on getting through the corners at Nashville.
im right there with you on the on throttle part, it is so hard for me to feel that first 40-50% of on throttle i feel like i have excellent control and feel for the top ~50% of the range but before that its a bit light switch-esque, ive thought about doing a new throttle shape to get more range out of that last end but u lose a lot of finesse on the top end
No music was fine on this one. I don't think having some calm background music harms anything though. Even well below your mic levels, it avoids dead space which is good.
so to fix tip 1 might I suggest you get in touch with a company like NLR or trak racer, I'm sure they have heard of you man and I'm sure they wouldn't mind sending you a rig.
I focus mainly on road so I've learnt to do without the relative bar. Got too distracting when learning the sim so I've learned how to do without it even when i race ovals.
Concerned too much on delta just like you. Sometimes i forget to open the delta and it leads to better understanding of the track or pace (smetimes too). The bad habit may be that some ppl are pretty inactive after big crash. No brake, no steer idk. They think they are over and that might be a reason of additional crashes. Another bad habit might be also about ppl making most casual pit strategies even if the car allows to change only 2 tires for example, or risk for less fuel (especially legends87).
Not really a "habit" but something I struggle with is the transition from practicing with comfort & good speed, only to get nervous in the race leading to overly tight driving well off my practice pace. Basic nerves and self-doubt issues to a degree where I need to just relax and roll with the race, but so hard to do sometimes despite recognizing the issue.
V3 that's not mounted to rig or ground :O I'm using aluminium U profile that goes under my chair wheels and screws to pedals, that way they don't tilt when you press them and you have just take care of them not sliding away from you, but as you have the wall behind them, it shouldn't be an issue.
Not really a bad habit but i used to only use one hand to drive when i played dirt rally 2.0. And now when i use both hands my left is at 9 o clock like most people but my right hand is further up more at a 2 o clock position
One thing I do that I probably shouldn't is listen to music while driving practicing and occasionally qualy... ...But I will die on the hill that having the right song is worth half a tenth at least for me
Lately I've been doing almost nothing but ringmeister, but I'll excuse it by saying there's a lot of different cars to drive and getting good there is a transferrable skill to other tracks. Let me enjoy my delusion.
Hi, I've been into sim racing for 2 weeks now, and I'm loving it! I'm considering getting a VR setup. What would be the best VR headset for sim racing maybe in the range of $500 - $800?
No music is fine if it makes it easier to hear you. I hate to be that guy, but you really ought to secure your pedals and other gear into a sim rig. It really helps with consistency, at least in road racing. And, it will save your body from poor posture, muscle strain, etc.
Not in iRacing. Paid services like VRS, Coach Dave etc have telemetry you can use to compare as well as setups and driving tutorials. It costs a few bucks a month, but can help you get faster a lot easier and sooner by seeing exactly what you need to adjust in your driving be faster. Whether it's worth about 10 bucks a month to you depends on how much your time is worth to you, as well as alleviating any frustration of wondering why you hit a plateau where you're not making much improvement. I wouldn't be without it just purely for the time it saves getting up to speed. If I'm not running as fast as the pros, at least I can see why and what I need to work on, even if I don't have the time and skill to replicate it to that level.
I don’t understand why you don’t have a rig or haven’t upgraded with how seriously you take it. It makes no sense. Maybe you’re just frugal? You’ve got some revenue coming in It’s unfortunate for people coming up through the licenses have to contend with a bunch of sandbaggers in arca. I think new drivers would spend more time in arca if it wasn’t full of people that have been around for years. They would probably learn more. Would start out less discouraged.
I use my office as a guest room when people come and if I put a rig in here there wouldnt be hardly any room. I'll have a rig eventually, or maybe not idk

Hi Jay, I've sent you a email and thought it was a good idea to let you know over here as well. I would love for you to see it. Thanks for the attention!
1. Spend $2000 on Iracing
$2000 is way too much. I've only spent $1700 keeping it frugal
😂 😂
Better to spend that 2000$ on a simucube brake pedal!
I spend like 3500-3700$ 💀 the PC is not included
Still my cheapest hobby.
The true gamer posture, the real reason that TV almost never shows in cars is because thats how all quick drivers are posed.
😂true

Bad habits, locking in my thumbs around the wheel. Good way to break a thumb (almost did it sim drifting and crashing).
my worst habit is not believing in myself, you can always improve!
Good news: I'm getting better at ARCA and regaining iRating.
If your monitor is too low just grab a book or two and put it on top of it. Thats what i did woth a bad novel i hated lol.
Ya I’ve been meaning to do it but I have to unplug some things to give me the room and my cord setup is an absolute travesty right now

Thanks! I figured for this type of vid I’m constantly yapping so there’s no dead space
I really think is time for someone to sponsor you with a good sim rig!! ;]
thanks again for the cool video! keep it up

Im the same with the relative bar, I leave it on session best and rely on it so much!
I focus mainly on road so I've learnt to do without the relative bar. Got too distracting when learning the sim so I've learned how to do without it even when i race ovals.
Haven’t watched too much but I pegged you as a gen 4 guy. So fun
It's my favorite car but my hatred of yellows keeps me out of it

Saving tires tip has given me consistently good finishes in bottom splits. Sub 2k cook their tires in the first half, and you just clean up at the end
No music is fine. :) I didn't notice the lack until you asked. Great content, though, as always.

Yes we love music in the videos
Yes, we do like no music. I personally hate music in videos, where it is just there to fill the gaps of silence.
I got iracing 2 weeks ago and i would say not looking up guides on the track and having the racing line on is probably hurting me
Oh snap I remember the voice from the why no one races iRacing formula a
One thing I do that I probably shouldn't is listen to music while driving practicing and occasionally qualy...

Referring to the Delta bar as a Relative is quite confusing. XD
Lately I've been doing almost nothing but ringmeister, but I'll excuse it by saying there's a lot of different cars to drive and getting good there is a transferrable skill to other tracks. Let me enjoy my delusion.
Hey as long as its fun!
I love the Ringmeister series. I just wish I had as much fun on other series as much as the Ring, especially in a stock car.
You got me with relative thing. I have always called that the delta bar. Isn't the relative where the other drivers are relative to you?
Ya youre prob right I always call it that for some reason idk why

You should join GLR Arca on Thursdays. They’re doing Pro/Am splits now. First race this week.

I have a bunch of boxes stuffed behind my pedals now lmfaooo
Thanks
I’ve been driving one handed since 2021, 5k iRating.
Don’t do this lol
Rubber left on the tires at the end of the race is as useful as the gas in the tank left over
Is there a way to look at better opponents telemetry to get faster when reviewing race?

You can do this in Garage 61 for anyone else on garage61 that makes their telemetry public. For instance mine is
