We have tried different types of uniforms, to best suit us. We went all-in on a certain color (out of the box) waiting on them now. We spent a $1,000 on shirts, hats, hoodies, etc. Most people don't look at it as a investment. We think it's all about branding and looking the part, for the best results. Great video explaining why you think it's important.
You have one of the most honest and informative lawn channels there is. I've worked in lawn care helping a guy for a couple years, I did a few family member yards for the last couple of years. Thanks to a job loss from my employer shutting down our location this year I will be trying to do it full time in 2021. Thanks for your content!
Before I started my business I wore overalls everyday. When I decided to start the business I switched over to a brown pant and company shirt. I absolutely loved my overalls,BUT I didn’t want new customers to look at me as a hillbilly that didn’t know what I was doing. Although there are a lot of customers that don’t care about what you wear I like the perception for my business to look clean and professional.
Wow! What a way to get the point across man! I'm a fan forever. I'm just starting out and actually was contemplating a long sleeve dry fit vs a polo style shirt. This clarified things for me. It's funny how you get the answers you need when you're receptive! Perception is very important.
Man you hit the nail on the head. You look alot younger with shorts and shirt on. The uniform makes you not necessary look older but professional and know whats hes doing.
LOVE the concept of uniform!! While I love the look of the polo's, I'm concerned about protection from exposure to the sun. Sunscreen becomes a "dirt magnet" and will detract quickly from that professional appearance. Long-sleeve T-shirts provide the sun protection, but don't look as "crisp". We both live in Florida (I'm in Tampa Bay), so your perspective is valid to me. As always, great video!
People who ignore this concept: "A neat appearance sets the customer's mind positively." are leaving money on the table. They'll view the work more favorably, & see mistakes as more unimportant.
Well I'll be honest. .. if you had simply went to a local spot and asked a few people their opinions, you would have nailed it. Even bozos don't wear A White T-shirt and gym pants on site but I like the point though.
I was in foodservice sales for 20 + years and one of the old school sayings was "dress for success". I have carried that into lawncare as well, but this year i AM changing to a collared style shirt. Makes all the difference to the customer, and to myself as well. Great video, and thanks again, Randy
I am looking into what kinds of clothes I should wear when landscaping. I watched others landscaping videos that usually wear long-sleeves, wicking, and loose-fitting materials. I live in Texas, and outside I usually like to wear loose-fitting and cooler clothing. I like the idea of looking professional, but I don't want to sacrifice staying comfortable and cool during hot summers.
I work in a grocery store and this is pretty much my uniform. Tucked in polo shirt, tan pants or black jeans, boots, and a belt. I tend to get treated fairly well by customers.
I totally agree with that that my friend. I was told a statement a very long time ago, although it took a long time for it make sense too me. "People hear with there eyes and see with there ears.. think about it😊..great video if you wanna market and promote yourself for great success 👍
Totally. Just ordered some more new stuff for next year everything is starting to wear out. Looking the part is everything plus you should be proud of your business and show it. They see you all dressed up with logo they hopefully will assume your going to be around a while.
Bought 4 pairs of moisture wicking pants And polyester pants at Walmart this winter and they’ve lasted all season here in Texas - so much better than shorts/running pants I wore the last few seasons
I’ve always agreed with that mind set 100% I actually just got some shirts made. I went cheap because I just started but the girl I used was small time operating out of her house. I was kind of disappointed with the outcome but I got wait I paid for. I know next time I won’t b scared to spend a little money! I just know how it is. I respect the small time just starting out businesses.
I personally feel wearing a collared shirt and tucked in your pants it's an over kill for lawn mowing services and possibly will turn customers away from you. I basically wear a fluorescent yellow or orange T shirt with brown cargo wrangler pants! I feel it fits the job description, and it's what customers would expect of someone in lawn care business
The most successful companies I've ever seen...all had good uniforms...and the best one I've ever seen in my life had uniforms that made me feel dressed up almost...and were greenish colored so grass from string trimmer would blend in...collared shirts with nametags nice button downs and long/short sleeves. Perception is that you are professional, more educated, care more about the job, and deserve the higher rate you demand per customer. Care more about cust.
From day one, even when it was just me, the company had a uniform. These days, it’s safety yellow polo shirts with a nice looking embroidery of our company name, tan shorts, boots. Safety, comfortable, professionalism. Worth every penny.
I have been using a uniform service for 4 years now. It does cost, but they rent you the uniforms and pick up to wash them. the guys like it, they look good, and no excuses for grimy pants, etc. we use tan cargo pants, no shorts and grey polos.
I wear polos as well, i have always hated the safety green or orange shirts every company wears. Now i do buy cheap cargo slacks now because i got tired of destroying my 5.11s lol
I really like the blends that have moisture wicking properties. Regarding pants I look for pants that have moisture wicking properties and are also a four way stretch. Wrangler makes a set of inexpensive pants that are really good. I’ll see if I can find a link
I've tried several types of pants, and the best ones are the Magellan Outdoors Fish Gear, they are Water Repellent, made of 100% nylon. Light weight, comfortable, and the legs unzip at the knee for shorts. $14.00 at academy. Check them out
Man, this is good. I just told my wife 1 hour before you posted this video. Im switching to collard long and short sleeves depending on season. Also pants setting a new standard for my company and the local industry in my area. I see other companies with nasty, wadded, stretched, cut off or ripped clothing. I have nothing but respect for those hard working individuals and companies. BUT I WANT TO STAND OUT! Lawn care is big business. “Look like money, look like success” - Walter Bond
Long sleeve shirts are a must. I could send you a photo of the skin damage I've suffered from years of working outdoors in short sleeve shirts but you might not sleep at night. Plus wear a hat not a cap. Yikes!
I started out this year and got a uniform from your suggestion. I think it’s great but Its still tough gaining clients. Honestly I see most guys dressed like bums with so much work they can barely handle it. So who knows anymore.
I think the appearance is everything especially if it's the first impression of a potential new customer. You want to look professional not like a billy big somebody lol. Just my opinion tho
I asked a professor why he always wore a suit to teach lower level engineering courses while everyone else was casual. He said twenty years ago he dressed down for a casual Friday and at one point had his feet on his desk and at the end of the day he accomplished half his normal work. Wore a suit every day since
THANK YOU. all these non uniformed crews make our industry look like a joke, and drives prices down. bad company image, bad trade image, bad industry image.
I don’t care what anybody say uniforms are a must I work for a Lawncare Company down here in Memphis and all our customers stay in the suburbs I told the owner he had to get us shirts because we have blacks and Hispanics workers out here in these upscale neighborhoods we can’t be walking around in somebody yard wearing a Nike shirt people will called the police on us then he said I never thought about it like that.
If you represent yourself well, you will be well defined. Other companies in our area have started copy us. Others have not and at least 3 have quit in 2020.
The problem is if you’re in a uniform you don’t look like a kid down the street or you’re not there cutting your grandma’s grass your A company My phone is broke this is Mikeywith the East Tennessee
It’s hard for me to agree with you because I don’t look at people and judge them that’s not the way I think and I don’t think I would care to work for people who thought that way. I hate people who judge other people by the way they look. And it means losing some money and some customers so be it. I live by a certain set of morals that won’t change for money. No I’m not talking about going out smelling all nasty and having torn up clothes but nothing wrong with going and working at a pair of jeans and a T-shirt or a pair of khaki shorts and a T-shirt especially if the T-shirt has your logo
I know comments can sometimes come off wrong not trying to start eaything, I don't think Jothan is that way eather but perception does make a huge difference
Lawn Commander I don’t feel you are at all but from visual perception comes judgement and there is the problem. Again even watching him and his second outfit wasn’t the worst thing in the world. And I stick by my thing saying I would not cook for anybody who would judge people were not hire you because you’re wearing a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. I worked landscaping when I was 15 to the time I was 25 and just wore shorts and T-shirts and made plenty of money and nobody cared whatsoever. I am now 40 something and getting back into the game and I guarantee you it’s still won’t matter and if it does again I don’t want to lose my customers. My morals mean more to me than anything and I will not give them up just for money
The only thing I would say is, that’s awesome that you think that way. But the majority of the population doesn’t exactly think like you. Some people care and some don’t. It’s always better to dress nice, that way you always have a positive perception by the whole population instead of part of the population thinking nothing of you and other looking down at you. Also, It’s better to dress professionally, that way you bring respect and professionalism to the industry as a whole, even if some people don’t care.
You edited this video! 😉. Just kidding around as I know you are not a fan of video editing for TH-cam. Great topic, and well illustrated. I am a logo shirt guy, too.
Instead of looking for the right pants just look for the perfect tailor. I spend $49 on a good pair of Levi’s and spend another $20 to get them tailored. I’m sure the same concept would work for you for Wrangler or Dickies work pants. I wish you luck! 👍🏾
Charles I never thought of that. That’s a really great idea. The thought of wearing actual jeans freak me out 😆 I do a lot of squatting. Thanks for the tip!
Thats why we wear uniforms, perception. Its just like the actual guy. Would you take the guy with the raggedy truck, smoking, leaking fluids and old dirty clothes. Or the guy with a clean truck, uniform, tools belt, real invoice system so forth.....I know who I want at my house.....
Hundred percent agree with uniforms but I don’t see how you can wear long pants in Florida. I wear shorts and I have dry fit longsleeve shirts with the logo on the front and the back. In your gym shorts so you look like you’re looking for beer money in with your regular uniform you look like your mower salesman demoing a unit for a customer.
Haha, ya I used to go with moisture wicking shorts, but I got tired of getting hit on legs with sticks and rocks. It took a bit to get used to, but I could never go back to shorts.
I hate getting myself dirty for some reason. I don’t mind dirt on my pants and shirts but I hate getting dirt on myself. That’s why you’ll always see me in long sleeves and khakis in the summer when working lol. It also keeps the mosquitoes away.
I'm a 30 year gardener in southern California. The ILLEGAL, unlicensed and uninsured competition running on the stolen equipment of others, make me look good every day. I could go to work naked and still make 100k annually.

You have to try and stick with a uniform as you said to get the better perspective and be able to charge the right price.
Long sleeve performance shirts are a must for me due to sun exposure
Man you hit the nail on the head. You look alot younger with shorts and shirt on. The uniform makes you not necessary look older but professional and know whats hes doing.
Yep. Also, which person is the home owner likely to let in to use the bathroom?
LOVE the concept of uniform!! While I love the look of the polo's, I'm concerned about protection from exposure to the sun. Customers: "The guy with the collared shirt cut so much better !!! Than the last guys you sent." 😂😂😂
People who ignore this concept: "A neat appearance sets the customer's mind positively." are leaving money on the table. They'll view the work more favorably, & see mistakes as more unimportant.
😂 some would say that
Well I'll be honest. .. if you had simply went to a local spot and asked a few people their opinions, you would have nailed it. Even bozos don't wear A White T-shirt and gym pants on site but I like the point though.
Can you send a link to what company does your polos with the logo? I live in the Naples area and youre company dress code is sharp
Vista Print
Hey I stay in naples also !
My grandmas lives in naples

Like many others I’m also interested in the manufacture and style of the pants and collared shirt.
Eddie Bauer Guide Pro pants are what I use. I’m in SW Fla, they are very comfortable, zero restriction.
I use a white t shirt with the company logo on the front and back along with a hat that has the logo on it. As for pants I wear camo cargo shorts.
What up merry Christmas. There is no money cutting lawns in Florida. People want
$25 cuts.🤣😭
What pants are those
Jonathan looking like hes gonna cut my lawn then smooth talk his way into taking my future ex wife on a date
💀
I always had dry fit t shirts for me and my crew having uniform is just be better perception

Level Edge Lawn Care in Cape Coral here!.. great content. Presentable uniforms are a must!
Totally. Just ordered some more new stuff for next year everything is starting to wear out. Looking the part is everything plus you should be proud of your business and show it. They see you all dressed up with logo they hopefully will assume your going to be around a while.

Florida Turf Pros thAt would be great!! I would love to know of a collared shirt that is moisture wicking
@@FloridaTurfPros the Wrangler ATGs are my favorite. Very light and breathable

I’m new so at the moment I don’t got my business shirts so I just use dry fit long sleeves with pants and boots

The uniform won’t get you client,You gatta do some marketing
What work pants do you use?

Jonathan, do y'all just have the logo on the left chest? Nothing on the back?
Being professional is key 🔑 as perception is EVERYTHING. Great video, stop giving all these secrets away. Lol 😆
I would definitely hire the uniform version of you. Very nice video, thank you.
Thank you, thank you, so much what a difference 👍
Also, it’s been scientifically proven that you get a cleaner cut when dressed professionally!!
THANK YOU. all these non uniformed crews make our industry look like a joke, and drives prices down. bad company image, bad trade image, bad industry image.

I was just talking to my wife about this. What are some good breathable khakis? I ordered polo shirts this fall. I agree with you 100%!
Where do you get your polo shirts? They look great.
If you represent yourself well, you will be well defined. Other companies in our area have started copy us. Others have not and at least 3 have quit in 2020.
Now I get it ! Clearly a big difference
I definitely need to upgrade my uniform! 👌🏾😎
Yes and no your work speaks for itself just because you look nice doesn't mean your work does but I agree on uniforms
Best I’d ever do for a uniform is a company logo tshirt and hat.
Thanks for the video. Where do you buy your shirts from?
true that!
Chad lawn care confirmed!
The problem is if you’re in a uniform you don’t look like a kid down the street or you’re not there cutting your grandma’s grass your A company My phone is broke this is Mikeywith the East Tennessee
It's neat, and professional, attract more business

We pick up dog poop and wear collared shirts as well. We need to look the part to get that damn credit card on file!

What brand shirt do you use?
Its a must 👍🏾

haha, I appreciate it. thank you
YES SIR U WELCOME
Not good to have that dark shirt on 100 degree days tho.
I’ve been struggling to find a good pant that fits a woman’s body nicely other than leggings

You guys allow shorts with your uniforms?
I'm looking for a company that can do water wicking make mine. Any suggestions?
I go to Walmart and bring my shirts to a local printer.
What brand
Thats why we wear uniforms, perception. Its just like the actual guy. Would you take the guy with the raggedy truck, smoking, leaking fluids and old dirty clothes. Or the guy with a clean truck, uniform, tools belt, real invoice system so forth.....I know who I want at my house.....

I'm a 30 year gardener in southern California.
The ILLEGAL, unlicensed and uninsured competition running on the stolen equipment of others, make me look good every day.
I could go to work naked and still make 100k annually.
