This summer I want to double my typing speed (I’m really slow) and teach myself how to play a few songs in the piano (never played any instrument), if I don’t achieve either of those I’ll at least be able to say Ill be traveling to Europe and doing kinda a road trip through the east coast. This comment is longer than I anticipated 😂

I was watching videos to prepare for my AP exam and all of a sudden i see this video and realize that I know ur brother and I'm going to Herndon too. Cause I remembered they said u were going to Yale and did magic, and I thought "Oh thats cool" but then randomly coming across ur youtube channel kind of blew my mind. Kevin used to always talk about how u guys would take magic breaks in physics and I thought that was pretty funny.
You were listing actual things you did and I was over thinking about how I'm into my 2nd year spending my summer working at Sonic and feeling like I'm wasting my summer and the summer before I had my job I spent it trying to learn Japanese and then you mentioned that having a job or learning a language were good ways to use your summer and I feel better about my decisions now
1) You mentioned that you taught yourself coding during the summer and put that on your app. What section did you include that in? I did a similar thing one summer and was wondering. Also, I kind of taught myself about stocks and did some trading through etrade (real money) and through the investopedia online simulator (which allows me to use fake money so no risk). Would this be helpful to mention in the same section if I could incorporate that into my general application theme?
2) How did you get involved in The American Legion Boys State? Is that only available to the families of service members? Because it sounds very interesting and fun.
Thanks. I just discovered your videos and they're extremely helpful. I'm near the end of my junior year so I've already compiled most of the things that will go on my app, but you've made it much easier to understand the actual application itself, as well as the essays. It's cool that you continued this even after going to college.

I'm going to get started on my outlines for APUSH since i'll be going into my sophomore year and it'll be my first AP class and I'm kinda nervous. I'm also continuing an internship at a dietitians office even though I don't really want to go into nutrition, but im 14 and it's just the only thing around me that I can do as 14. It's really hard to find things in the field of journalism around me, but I'm working on it. I'm also going to try to teach myself ASL. Thanks for the videos!

It’s very pretty up there the view is way different than the pictures there is a normal hike to get to the normal view but then there is a 1 hour hike up and back which was very fun you’ll enjoy it

I am going to work on my fitness Instagram and I may start a TH-cam channel on it. Next I’ll be studying for the SAT and ACT. Last, I’ll be working on college essays. One last thing, though, I’ll try to relax... hopefully.

I’m pretty good at Math and I usually help classmates out when they don’t understand things. So I’ve considered making a TH-cam channel (similar to like Khan Academy or something) to teach math, maybe in simpler ways so students my age can understand. Would something like that, if I can grow channel, hopefully make an income by the time I submit applications in 1 and 1/2 years, would it be a good extracurricular. I’d also like to go into something related to business management and econ so

I took my high school's Coding I class (my school offers Coding I, Coding II, and then AP Computer Science) and we "learned" Python there. Never taking coding again...

I know I'm kinda a procrastinator but what stuff can I sign up for now that summer has started? So far, I'm taking an online health class, doing a debate camp for 2 weeks, traveling for another 3 weeks, working on a science fair project/ teaching myself how to code neural networks and maybe doing drivers ed.
Lol is any of this enough? Because i still want to relax and be lazy this summer
Forgot to mention that I'm taking music lessons (piano, violin and voice) and making youtube videos

I'm a current sophomore and I think you'll be alright. AP Micro/Macro can either be really easy or somewhat hard at your school (at mine it's apparently easy), but it's definitely not a major AP by any standards. AP Gov is in the same boat, but at most school I know it's just a semester course ... so maybe it'll be more tolerable. AP Lit, Physics, and Calc are where you're gonna feel it. Good luck with those lol (it'll probably be okay ... I'm assuming for physics that you're strong at math since you're taking calc).
Next year I'm planning on taking AP Lang, APUSH, AP Chem, and I had wanted to do AP Micro/Macro, but it wouldn't fit in my schedule. Senior year I'll probably do AP Lit, AP Euro, AP Micro/Macro, AP or honors physics, AP Spanish, AP Gov. I don't think AP Calc's gonna happen and I'm on the fence with physics.
Chemistry sucks.... Environmental Science is easier...
AP Physics has no required prerequisites.... I have Alg1, Alg2, Geometry down..... so thats good.... and I already took two years of language so I wont bother with another language course... Ill take other courses.
Macro-Economics is a College-level Elective
AP Government and Politics is a one semester college level history course..... I think for the other semester there is CIvics, but thats a regular college preperatory course
AP Gov in my school is considered a civics course, so it's its own thing. Students in my school also have to have completed algebra 2 and pre-calc (or take it concurrently) for AP Physics I. Anyway, AP Environmental is definitely easier, but I love chem. I also like Spanish, so that explains AP in senior year.
How good is the Yale Young Global Scholars program? I was accepted to the biology section. Thanks

Josh I hope you can help me out. I'm now at the end of my junior year and had taken SAT once and got a 1360, I had also taken 4 AP but only got a 4 in microeconomic and a 3 in physics1. I regret that I messed up my APs, maybe it's because my English wasn't as good back then.(I'm a international student from China, transferred here on junior year.) During the summer I will be working on my SAT and my goal is 1500+. For activities I don't have a lot, I've only been in a few volunteer works related to music(called super cello held in china, pretty cool), and i was the president of my highschool student counsel in China and now I'm in the national honor society. I've only been in the track team and math league here for a short period of time(short short). I'm just feeling not enough to apply for an ivy, I really want to be the best me. Hope you can give me some tips or clues on what to do. Thanks, love your videos.

My math skills are much stronger than my reading skills, and I was wondering if you had any types that may help me with my vocabulary and grammar. I understand that the obvious answer would be to just read more, however, I would like to know if you know of a website that helps strengthen my grammar and vocabulary. Thank you for your time!

Camila Marden Don't worry about it too much. Most non-ap English classes are pretty easy. Like I suck at ElA but I currently have a 99 in honors without trying.
yeah, you already predicted the answer, but since you have an entire summer to yourself, read as much as you can.
here's a list of good books to read; i picked them because they're good stories, but the level of literature is really high.

I’m a writer, and I’m trying to code a blog from scratch where I can post some of my work. I’ve been using a learning website called Skillshare, which is an awesome site, but the pace is pretty slow and I’m hoping to speed up my learning so I can get my blog out there over the summer. I was planning on taking AP CompSci junior year. But i’m not doing that because a friend did, and said it’s just a study hall essentially. So now I’m planning on learning it myself, but I was wondering what language would be manageable to teach myself? In addition, I was wondering what your experience skipping AP Calc AB was like? Id like to do AP Calc BC junior year instead of a senior year, but is that a crazy thing to undertake? Thanks in advance!

hey, im a sophomore was planning to do a java course through coursera over the summer, does this really help for college apps? If I were to do this course and learn python before college apps rolled around, would it help at all for apps? thanks
It;s not necissarily gonna drastically improve your apps, but it would be cool if colleges saw that you took initiative outside of class to learn something!

Don’t procrastinate and work hard
Just keep you grades as high as possible but don't freak out over them. I regret a lot of my grades from freshmen year because I could have done much better ... but I'm also so thankful that I had fun that year before the real hell starts sophomore year and beyond.

Going into my junior year (rip) and I think I'm going to spend my summer relaxing before the hell that next year'll be and volunteering at my local library, hospital, or some type of educational place. I also want to complete a reading challenge and prep for a job I may be getting in the Fall when I turn 16 and can finally work. Prepping for the PSAT and SATs next year may also be on the list.
