Notice how the magpie turns sideways when getting really close to the cat so if the cat lurches the bird won't have to fly towards the cat. Smart bird!

Yes, slightly irritated maybe judging by the swishing tail, but not really troubled. Maybe it's sitting too close to the magpie's nest with eggs or chicks, and they're trying to shoo it away.

I had a big, long-haired ginger cat named Bob. One day he caught a mouse in the street and was forced to defend his prize against a pair of magpies. One would approach, chattering to gain his attention, while the other silently came up from behind. He'd wheel round while protecting his little captive with his body. The game would then resume with the magpies reversing roles. This went on for several minutes, until the birds tired of their sport. Bob was quite flustered by the encounter. I don't know how the mouse fared, as I went back in the house. Tame cats will sometimes allow their prey to escape after toying with it. But those magpies working in tandem to get that little creature away from Bob were bold little hunters.

Where I live, a cat got into the Magpie nest and killed the chicks. The cat was harassed for 2 weeks after that by adult Magpies; so bad that the cat was huddled at the owners door all the time. Someone found a dead cat a few weeks later close to the owners house. The noise went on for weeks.

We had magpies that did that to our old cat sometimes. He was old, so they'd sneak up behind him and pull his tail. I don't know if they were playing or protecting something, but they lived in our garden, but rarely bothered our cat. He was a roaming type of cat, maybe that's why.
They would also steal food from bird feeders meant for smaller birds. Their beaks were to big, so they would shake the container until seeds fell out. Clever and cute.

corvidae are one of if not the most intelligent of the bird families. They aren't really aggressive here. They're just entertaining themselves. That's right. These birds are intelligent enough to not only have the ability to use tools and demonstrate simple problem solving skills, they have a social structure based upon play. I've been researching and studying bird behavior for years and the corvids are quite ornery. Usually aggression is shown towards someone that has wronged them for they can remember faces that threaten or attack them. Some even hold grudges.

Magpies react this way when they have little nestlings to protect. I have saved several magpie chicks from the clutches of cats. The cats were followed and "scolded" by the adult magpies for weeks.
The latest rescue has been with me since June and for weeks the parents made a fuss every time the cat that attacked the nestling left the house. I have saved several magpie chicks from the clutches of cats. The cats were followed and "scolded" by the adult magpies for weeks.
The latest rescue has been with me since June and for weeks the parents made a fuss every time the cat that attacked the nestling left the house.
The last time the attack on the baby magpie that fell from the nest took place at night and for the first time I heard the magpies making noise at night and they were joined by the crows, all in an attempt to get the cat away from the baby magpie . A cooperation that I didn't think was possible.
The baby magpie is now about 10 weeks old. At night he sleeps indoors on a perch created by my husband and during the day he wanders joyfully among trees and roofs. He is one of the sweetest creatures I have had the opportunity to care for.
Be always kind with magpies. Deserve our love as well as our cats and dogs and any other creature. And remember: they are not aggressive, they don't attack even when they are in danger. They only go around what they consider to be a danger to their offspring, without ever pecking or clawing.

Poor cat just wants to hang out and take a nap. And along comes a stupid bird messing it all up.

I think that's a mated pair where the male is trying to get cat hair to line their nest with something soft. Other birds do this, too. Remember when you brush your pet or horse to collect the hairs and put them outside for the birds to use.

They are trying to protect their babies. The cat wants to eat them and or their babies.

1:55 only a lame person would say that, one cat can kill hundreds of birds, small mammals and reptiles over it's lifetime. Bet she doesn't give a squat about them. Cats should strictly be house cats

Sometimes I think they do this to distract the cat while their partner forages for some food nearby or something.

Haha..... era o glumă, Cristina. Evident că nu mi- a reușit! Gaițele sunt f haioase, inventive și jucăușe. Am crescut una de când era cât pumnul. Am eliberat- o, desigur, când a crescut suficient.

Numa' bine tuturor!💛🐦
