    An overpriced stationary bike for rich people with overpriced gym memberships that they couldn't use due to lockdowns.

    One thing that isn't mentioned enough is how they designed a machine without properly consulting the Consumer Product Safety Commission, by their own admission. When the treadmills injured multiple children and killed one (by sucking the child under the machine due to no safety guards) they initially denied there was a problem with the machine and were slow to recall it.
    In my mind this was the beginning of their problems. I for one would never buy anything by this company because I am absolutely disgusted by their reckless behaviour and heartless response to a child's death.

    I'm simply a retail investor (long-term mindset) who saw this coming from the beginning. At the end of the day, it's just a frickin' bike...a bike! Who didn't see this coming? Who really looked at Peloton and said to themselves, "this looks like something I could hold on to for 10+ years." Now the facebook marketplace is flooded with these dam bikes.

    This is like Juicero of exercise machines. Reinventing the wheel but adding a monthly subscription service with internet connectivity!

    Every few years some exercise program or gizmo gets hot and eventually people realize exercising still sucks and that they fell for they fell for the marketing and stop buying it.

    I wrote the CEO a letter in 2020 on how they could expand the business significantly. Maybe it was too out of the box. Never received a response.

    I don’t know why people in this comment section are so bitter about a bike they have never used! I’ve used a Peloton for the past three months and it’s probably the best investment I have made. If you’re so clever you’ll figure that it actually works out cheaper than that gym membership that you only use 3 times a month!

      Facts!!!!

    • @jaredflurry937

      I have to say that the numbers for your argument are pretty tough; you have to claim that a $2-3k upfront cost plus monthly subscription wins out over a (generally $10-50) monthly gym membership.
      There just aren’t likely many people who’d waste the gym membership who wouldn’t eventually also waste the peloton subscription. The gym also comes with a wide range of equipment, facilities, and classes more likely to keep a customer returning in some capacity.
      Genuinely glad to hear that you’re pleased with your purchase, though.

    • @TheMarmite09
      @TheMarmite09 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaredflurry937 I don’t know where you live but I’ve never heard of a gym membership that costs $10 a month! The min I’ve heard of is $85-$100 and this is if you go to a high quality gym that is clean and has everything you need. I live in the UK so I actually paid around £1.5k for the bike and I don’t have to commute far to the gym so it cuts friction for me.

    • @jaredflurry937
      @jaredflurry937 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheMarmite09 I’m referring to gym franchises in the states; their business model relies upon being inexpensive enough that it’s not worth New Years resolution folks’ time to go through the cancellation process. These are basic, but clean and well-appointed, gyms that offer weight and cardio rooms plus classes. They usually run between $25 and $40 per month, with discounts around the holidays.
      Memberships to independent gyms, which usually offer amenities like pools and tennis courts, absolutely cost in the range you cited.
      So we get less expensive gyms because non-users subsidize frequent users; you get free healthcare. I’d go with the latter, haha.

    Great value product with a very very high price. If this costs $300 - $700 a lot of more people would be able to afford it.

    The recent Peleton Ad showing a building full of people each in their own room exercising to Peleton is just plan sad. We live in a loneliness epidemic and you want to separate people who exercise as well?. All that on top of bringing casual dining, gaming, social communication, and entertainment into the home or virtual world already over the years. A very sad trend.

    Nothing innovative about Peleton. This is the WeWork of workout machines. It's branding play basically and convincing people to buy something they don't really need. Not a surprise this thing finally tanked.

    Subscription model seems to be the most creative idea that these Ivy League mba ceos can ape these days. Subscription shaving sets, subscription this, subscription toilet paper .. and the list goes on… they’re like apes just copying one idea that may work well with something like Netflix and applying that to stuff that simply isn’t suited for monthly payments - most people quickly realize their mistake even if they get carried away initially. Go pro cameras are another case in point - but at least the cameras continue to work without subscription, and you could still use them normally with a memory card like you would a regular offline camera without subscription. In the case of peloton, the basic functionality of the screen is tarnished with a large “subscribe now” message, and the bike is rendered about as useful as an old fashioned exercise bike without a screen and only basic readings. That model was never gonna work and people who are willing to pay subscription fees for every little thing in life are suckers in my humble opinion.

    Most people who wants a peloton probably live in SF or NYC, urban tech savvy people. Who can afford to dump $2000 that's not the issue, BUT their bikes are just too big, not compact enough for urban apartment living.

    I want a peloton but won’t buy one now due to possible bankruptcy in a years time. My equipment I would pay 2300 relies on a subscription that could go away. That’s not a very good return on investment.
