The best thing about this trumpet routine is that it grows with you. All players from beginner to pro work these things out. It's just what we do as trumpet players. What is your main challenge on the trumpet right now? Your routine is linked above.

Best online trumpet teacher. And never asked me for anything.

I'm 69 and playing my trumpet again after over 50 years of limited practice. Your the first one I've listened to that really makes sense on the comeback routine. Excellent. Now... if I can afford the book. I'm trying to play again for my granddaughter who is a freshman this year and plays multiple instruments. Sometimes it hard for grandparents to be cool. Teehee

I stopped playing after high school in 1972, picked up the horn after retiring in 2014. Could still read music (hard to see it though), and remembered fingering. Practiced for a year trying to get something back and realized I had no discipline. Joined a community band and asked the director if he knew anyone that gave trumpet lessons, hooked me up and honestly the best thing a come back player can do. Changed my trumpet playing immensely.

Way to go Stuart! You made two solid moves by joining the bands and getting a teacher. Thanks for sharing these comments here.

This is great. As someone who played trumpet all through school and took an extensive time off I’m 40 now and picking my horn up and playing again this is advice to point me in the right direction. I did not know how to practice to get my tone, endurance and range where it was in college.

Thank you, sir! Performance is key! Been sharing my audio files recorded by my phone with family members and friends of mine playing along with songs that I like. It keeps me motivated if I can't find an audience. 😊✨️🎺

I’m glad to help you. Join our email list if you haven’t already. Since you don’t have a teacher but would like one, you may find a community helpful. I’m starting it in the coming months. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks Chris, that's really helpful, especially the encouragement to get out of the woodshed and playing with/for others, I've had 15+ years out, and the encouragement to be systematic and keep it daily even if brief is really helpful too.
Do you not especially encourage pedal tone practice? My old teacher used to encourage that a lot, though it did keep me somewhat anchored to the lower register I found, I prefer now to use pedals to get the lips moving freely and then work more from the mid register.

I've never had trouble with a come back, problem is after all these years. I just don't know what to do with it. I don't have a path with this instrument.

What type of path are you talking about? A path to practice or a path to perform?

I don't practice everyday but often. Since I'm not playing for anyone and just playing at home by myself, I don't have to practice that much.
