I really feel for Daniel. It’s the most unforgiving trade out there, and once you start, you’re chained to the job til you’ve finished troweling it up. Can be brutal. Clearly did a good job saving the heat loss, so take that as a feather in your cap fella - sounds like the gym owner was the type to find fault with anything!

I’m a 30 year plasterer and In last 2 years my confidence is rock bottom because my gaffer took on a coupe of Barrett’s sites and they do a pendant swing with the light and it shows every blemish and all they do is rip you a new one daily calling you shit and for 2 years I’ve tried new ways and different methods to overcome certain things to no avail and it’s battered my confidence.
Luckily I’ve come to realise it’s a Barrett’s thing as I get nothing but compliments elsewhere.
But even at my age it still hurts when someone’s slates you 😢

Lights at funny angles are always an issue. It’s a design issue not the plasterers fault. People forget wet plastering is a hand applied finish it isn’t made in a factory by a machine.
