As a musician myself, I can honestly say that one of the greatest things I ever hear, is when the crowd is singing along with me. So your point is flawed. It's the ultimate show of respect to sing a song along with the musician, it tells the difference between someone just being "there' and someone who's there to see "you". When on stage, we dont want silence, we want the crowd to feel it.
I saw the NYC Hardcore Punk band Sick Of It All play at The Social in 1999, or 2000.. I'd have to check the ticket stub, that's amongst piles n piles of others lol. My friend that is no longer with us(R.I.P. Joe Zabawa!) and I stuck around after the set and Lou Koller, the singer of SOIA signed our merch for us and made small talk for like 5-10 minutes n was the most down to earth kinda guy ever! NYC Hardcore is no fucking joke! Where it all began!! And Sick Of It All FUCKING RULE!!

Holy Fuck its been that long since Paul Passed away. I was a bassist in high school and Paul was a big part of the reason i chose Bass as my instrument. He was Quiet Perfection in the sense he was consistently putting out excellent music album /tour after album/tour. For myself that was inspiring While some of my friends became Vocalists , Drummers Guitarists or Keyboardist's for a variety of reasons i was 1/6 people in our school playing with bands at shows and we all had a different but similar experience. Buddy of mine loved Nikki Sixx and was a more charasmatic and vocal bassist. I guess what i'm trying to say is everyone has someone who inspired them to pick up an instrument and in my case it was a Man you never really heard talk much who lived his life through his actions that would eventually inspire countless others to play music. For this he will live on forever as people can forget a song or an album but a memory that powerful will be shared and spread.
