      If the “roof” of our mouth doesn’t really feel anything I’m really wondering why/how certain foods give me intense pain there. Like something is putting pressure inside and expanding. I know. I’m just weird.

    I had a medical person inject anesthesia into my right nostril and it went into my sinus and I instantly felt pain like a brain freeze. I started shaking, vomiting, and in such severe pain I was banging my head to feel anything besides the brain freeze sensation. I left, had some one drive me home, 2 hours away, shaking and sick all the way. This misery continued for 10 hours before I began to get relief. Worst pain ever, childbirth doesn't even come close. Western Washington University Medical Center in Seattle. I'll never go back there again. I still get sinus headaches on that right side occasionally that aren't as severe but last 3 days. It's been 20 years and I still get them. Watching this video helps me understand why the pain is so all over the right side of my head, face, ear, and even down my neck, referred pain.

      Basically, in your ears you have fine hairs. At the ends of some of these hairs are crystals which are involved with controlling balance. With vertigo, these crystals are dislodged, not in the right places or aren’t aligned correctly. So to treat it you can do some head movements to try and realign the crystals. Sometimes it just corrects it’s self. I know you can’t see me but I think I’m cute :) Anyways. Hope this helps x

    Ok, I am officially a complete weirdo then!!
    Whenever I get brain freeze, I get excruciating pain in my forehead and temples, the back of my neck, usually my right shoulder and off centre to the left in my chest. I then get pins and needles mainly in my nose and hands but also running all over my head, neck arms, upper body and struggle a little bit to breathe properly.
    It terrifies the heck outta me!! I still can’t say no to my tubs of dairy free ice cream though. I am just extra careful when eating it and make sure to have a glass of hot water next to me. 😂🙄
    Anyhoos, I was wondering if you wonderful people could do a video explaining Acute cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome pretty please!?!?!
    I have been plagued by it for the past 6 years now but haven’t met a single professional who can properly explain wtf it actually is. All I know is that it is pure torture, has taken away my ability to walk and I wouldn’t even wish this on my worst enemy!!
    I really do hope you see this and make a video in the near future.

    I was hoping this video would answer a question I've had about my own body for years, but it seems I'm still in the dark 😅
    All my life, I've never had brainfreeze... I've always gotten spinefreeze. When I eat cold things, I don't feel it in my face or my head, it *always* hits my upper-mid spine and sometimes travels down to my lower back. I'm the only person I've personally met who experiences this, and I wish I knew exactly why.
    My best guess is that the nerve signal "overshoots"; instead of triggering the sensation of pain in the trigeminal area, maybe it travels further and triggers the sensation in my spinal nerves instead.

  • @djbis
    @djbis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    this was a cool video/explanation! Here's a challenging one though: The hiccup. Would love to see the anatomical breakdown and maybe the neurological reason as well. Why do we hiccup, and how about all those supposed ways that you can use to halt a "hiccup attack"?

  • @ArtFreak17
    @ArtFreak17 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was familiar with the concept of referred pain in regard to heart attacks - but this helped me understand the etiology more.
    It makes sense that the brain might say "I'm more expectant of my arm/jaw/back hurting than my chest... despite signals of distress coming from the heart."
    The way the the brain fills in sensory gaps or attempts to under/over-correct is fascinating stuff!

    in regards to the pressure on the roof of the mouth, pressure transfers heat more quickly. Though I'm not sure how much quicker in this specific case, probably not enough to matter but do remember under pressure things increase in temperature, and if temperature is already being transferred, it just accelerates the process. If you take a small piece of metal and hit it real hard a few times with a hammer, it gets hot quick, even though the metal and the hammer are cold, just the friction and pressure increase the temperature.

    In addition to the tongue on the roof of the mouth trick, I've found that also placing the palms of the hands on either side of the nose, with the fingers extending over the forehead, and the "piniky finger" side of the base of the palms pressing in against the nostrils with the rest of the palm over the sinuses, and applying firm but gentle pressure, tends to help it resolve more quickly.
