Thanks for watching! If you want to help support my work, you can pick up some flies here. If you already tie, no worries. I also have some fly boxes you can put them in or hats! You’ll find the website here. Thanks for the support! www.mainely-outdoors.com Materials needed to tie it up: * Thread: collabs.shop/zxiaqc * Hook: collabs.shop/5krlt0 * Flash: collabs.shop/xwugh4 * Foam: collabs.shop/1zw2cd * Poly Yarn: collabs.shop/ft0vel * Wing: collabs.shop/wfbczv * Hackle: collabs.shop/rohe6l
fished a never-sink caddis alot last fall, really helps when you want to keep casting and not stop to dry off a fly, the foam just keeps it up and even if it does dip in a little, it will never fully sink.
I've been tying these for a while and they're my favorite for mid summer when they're hammering caddis patterns. It's more durable than the regular Elk Hair Caddis. I do add a little tuft of orange antron on top of the hair, behind the hackle as a sighter. I also cut the hackle off in the hook gap so it really floats high.
these catch a lot of fish in the little Colorado streams I like fishing. Catch a ton of smaller, wild trout and they destroy flies pretty quick. Elk hair caddis struggle to float well after 1 or 2 fish. I switched to a foam body caddis like this and made life way easier. Much easier to keep floating
