It is strange - sometimes it almost seems like they are " setting it up " for a contestant to win or the opponent to lose. Very rare , but sometimes you speculate about ' manipulation " for whatever reason. Another thing - after watching many of these , the whole ' first round questions are harder ' to me is b.s. n- Plus , sometimes the final match is an obvious cakewalk - still , highly entertaining- thank you for the upload, MatchGameProductions
Fannie had an awesome suggestion. Have the question be, , and everyone write whatever comes to mind. It wouldn't help anybody but it would be HILARIOUS!
I love me some Lee "Catwoman" Meriwether, but I'm happy to see the "Old Trooper" Mary Wickes back for next week! BTW, since I already listed my LEAST favorite semi-regulars, let me give my top 10 favorite semi-regulars (excluding Betty and Fanny who were nearly regulars): Mary Wickes Ethel Merman Bert Convy Bobby Van Elaine Joyce Bill Daily Marcia Wallace Patti Deutsch Joyce Bulifant Richard Paul
@@GizmoFromPizmo I think we could ALL easily do without both. Although Connie Van Dyke was the worst of all. Also, Donald Ross should be on my "Favorite Guests" list.
One thing that's puzzled me for 44 years is how Lee Meriwether never got picked up for another hit television series. And her Barnaby Jones co-star Mark Shera. Weird.
I did "death of a salesman" in highschool along with arsenic and old lace ... both were fun ..we did 4 plays a year. Wonder why they never had 2 guys play against each other.? As fare as I know a guy and girl or girl and girl.
Here are the results for this week: Richard won giving away the most money at a total of $10,250. Fannie also gave away $1,000 and Brett gave away $500. Fannie won for the most matches at a total of 11. Richard came in second matching 10 times, Lee matched 9 times, Brett matched 8 times, Charles matched 6 times, and Orson matched 4 times.
Lee n Fannie are my faves the non regulars I really liked was Lee Joann phlug n Worley bill daily Betty white Joyce bulifant Marcia Wallace nipsey russell n scone mitchell
I think it was in circulation back then. At least it was in use enough to show up in the movie "Smokey and the Bandit," which came out in May, 1977, which was only a few weeks after this taping.
Gene could sometimes be a little too judgmental with unsophisticated housewife and truck driver contestants who didn't catch the highbrow drift of some of the questions.
I love the irony of him behaving that way, given the many, many times over the years that Gene had to be informed about a Super Match answer that was from the current events when the shows were taped.
So true. And the way he always says that the 1st round questions are 'tougher' when we all know that it's the luck of the draw, that some are gimme questions and some are obscure or just plain dumb.
Sometimes the panel , too. I specifically remember the lady who was unfamiliar with a deli - unless you live somewhere where there is a legitimate deli , you are going to be clueless about such items as lox and chopped liver
A large part of this was that the questions really showed the parochial worldviews of the NY and LA based writers, who are incapable of considering the possibly of anyone living outside their insular coastal milieus.
Answers I went with were: PAWNED IT I'm not familiar with Lillian's from that time period so I went with Richard's answer, GISH Lose your TURN ANT REAR FAINTED
How in the world does someone get hit the rear when their camel stops short?!! Amazingly not even Richard stated the impossibility of that happening. And surprisingly 4 of the celebrities and the contestant said some version of rear. If the camel stops short a rider will be forced FORWARD! (And "obviously" the FRONT of their body would make contact with the camels hump if sitting behind it.) I do realize that both Gene and Orson appreciated the stupidity of the 'question' .
Oh come on! "Breath" was a total gimme. Geeeeeez.

I'll play! "Tinkle!" No, "Bra!" No, wait, "Boobs!" That's my final answer! How many matches do I get?

I love when Gene does crazy stunts XD
I'm kinda speechless, I thought Nancy had it made with that death of a salesman question, especially since Walt stubbed his toe on his question
Lillian Russell was my first thought because she was born in my home town
he so said twinkled the first time. MO-RON!
🤣🤣🤣
It was funny, ☺️
CNR is the Star/Comedian of the show with no need for a "Straight Man "(nothing implied).
I did "death of a salesman" in highschool along with arsenic and old lace ... both were fun ..we did 4 plays a year.
Wonder why they never had 2 guys play against each other.? As fare as I know a guy and girl or girl and girl.
They had two male contestants earlier this year.

Scoey
Walt looks like Gerald Mcraney. He played on Simon & Simon and This is Us.
Was HUMP not a euphemism back then, or are they just downplaying the implication for network television?

Being of that generation , yes , of course it was and the show was designed to fully exploit the double entendre
Pawned

Well, at least the gay community was well represented on this segment with Fanny and Charles.
Charles Nelson Reilly was not gay. He was married to a woman named Lynn or Lee. Pretty sure it's Lynn.
@@Michelles222 now THAT is news to me and EVERY other viewer
