You see the powder on the shelf or in the book, but what exactly is it best for? This time I’m taking a closer look at Hodgdon’s CFE BLK, a powder I’ve used in both rifles and handguns.

It's also excellent for. 300 HAM'R
Check that round out, you won't be disappointed.
I’ve had great success with CFE BLK (11.0 grains) and 220grain Berrys Bullets (300 blackout). Just under the sound barrier with great groups.
Can't beat the price of those Berry's subsonic bullets!
You are 100% correct about it in the 17 Hornet, best powder I have used in it. It also works well in my 458 SoCom and my 8.6 Blackout. I have also used it in the 32-20 with 115gr cast bullets.
I'm using it in the .300 HAM'R exclusively with the data provided from Wilson Combat. It's spot on and extremely consistent through my 16" WC barrel in an AR with an adjustable gas system and Brownell's lightweight carrier.
300 HAMR is a great, such a versatile round.
Just shot my first 300 Hanr loads CFE BLK & 130gr Speer Hotcor in a 16" Wilson Combat barrel. 5 shots @ 100yd in 1.5", 2285 fps, not a max load.
@allenjohnson5651 I'm running the max load under the Lehigh Defense 125gr Controlled Chaos, which very consistently averages 2400 fps. That is a very accurate bullet for this cartridge, as it printed multiple 5 shot strings hovering around 1 inch. I loaded some 147gr milsurp FMJs, and it definitely did not like those at all. They are running about 2180 fps, but were shooting 4"-6" groups at 100 yards. Great for fire forming brass and plinking, but definitely not suitable for showing the gun off!
I am having trouble finding bulk bullets in 110 to 150 grn fmj. I have self-healingf Infiniti targets no hollow point and best if not soft point at all. I have a box of 110gr controlled Chaos I haven't tried.
@@grantensrud9185 You won't really find too many that are suitable for the .300 HAM'R. In addition, it's not really intended for high-volume shooting with the specialty brass required. I bought some VMax, Hot Cor, and Controlled Chaos to load in it since most of WC's load data lines up with hunting bullets.
Have a Howa chambered in 7.62X39. Was not accurate enough for me. Finally tried this powder. OMG. It is accurate now. Thanks,
I use CFE BLK for 17 hornet with the 15.5 grain NTX bullet to get over 4000 fps. Absolutely my favorite load for ground hogs. Also using it for subsonic 6.8 SPC loads with very accurate results using 175 grain Maker bullets in a 1 in 7 twist barrel.
300 HAM'R !!!!!
CFE BLK is a a solid, useful 300 Blackout powder. I like it for subsonics and target loads with medium-to-heavy bullets.
BUT it is so on point as a 7.62x39 powder that my nickname for it is CFE Soviet. Performs equal to Acc 1680 in that cartridge with less pressure and less muzzle flash. Meters smooth as silk.
New studio is sick
The microscope was a super cool feature. Definitely interested to see that used again.
I've had great success with cfe pistol. Been curious about this stuff and 223.
300 HAM'R / CFE BLK is awesome.
I have been using 223 CFE in my 300 Blackout ar15 16” barrel using 110, 115 & 125 gr jhp bullets running at 2,100 ft/sec. I also have had great success with pointed powder coated 155 gr cast bullets sized to .308
Been using BLK in my 458 SOCOM, w/ 350g & 500g rounds for the past 5 yrs.
Thanks for sharing this info Gavin....... I just built my first ever AR 16" 556 a month ago and thinking of my next build already for a 10.5" 300BO... and I need some powders ideas
I use cfeblk for loading 350 legend and 7.62×39... I use 28.5gr with the Hornady 165gr ftx in my 350 legend.. nice, middle ground load. Max is 30gr compressed load...
Hodgdon has 17 rem fireball loads with cfe black and 15.5g bullets at somewhere around 4600fps. I'll be testing that at some point soon.
I recently picked up 6.8 spc and I was surprised to see CFE BLK as a powder for it on hodgdon's website. I already use Benchmark for 308 and BLK for blackout of course, so I'll try them both and see the results.
AA2200 has been amazing with Hornady 110 grain in my 6.8 and 165 grain Hornady SST in my 308. The CFE BLK is great for 190 grain SubX in my 300 BLK. It was not very accurate for some reason in my 6.8. But it was fast.
TIMELY!!
I am just starting with the 300 HAMr and thisnis supposed ta be a top choice!!
Videos up on my channel!
It also works well for the 458 SOCOM
I've used the CFE 223 with great results in 223 rem. I'd like to see a comparison of the CFE BLK to the Shooter's World Black. I've been using the Shooter's World Black in 300blackout and it shoots nice. I worked up a load with 150 gr bullets with pretty good results. Hardly any bullet drop from 75 to 150 yards. 175 grain subsonic, not suppressed, was eh!. I don't have any heavier 30 cal bullets! I'm not so much a fan of alley ooping bullets downrange much though. 16 inch bullet drop at 75 yards with a starting load to a 16" drop at 100 yards with a not quite maximum charge. Shooter's World (Lovex) doesn't publish extensive load data for many of their powders. It becomes a guessing game without a chronograph. I'd like to see them get more attention and more data generated.
Great in 17 Hornet, my next rebuild is a 20-222 to try it in.
300 BO supersonic in lighter 110 bullets with compressed loads are very consistant good sd's and great velocity. Never have issues with overpressure.
It's also a decent powder for 6.8 SPC.
Gav can you do a video or maybe even a series on reloading for a 5.56 SBR or Ar Pistols. I’m sure a lot of people out there would be curious to have an idea of what powders give the best performance out of 7.5, 10.5, and 11.5 in barrels tuning the round to get max velocity and avoiding the wasteful fireball at the muzzle due to slower burning powders
Could you use CFE BLK to make 7.62X39 subs?
I use it for 17 hornet it seems better than lil gun so far which is what I used prior before cfe blk came out
Great video. Could you mybe do a video or discussion on What is better for 380, 9mm and 40 s&w. cfe pistol or auto comp pistol?
Speaking of powder, how bout some discussion on missfires with certain powders in/primers in 450 bushmaster
300ham
As far as I'm concerned, CFE BLK is THE powder for .17 Hornet.
Wow! Perhaps I should try some. Thanks.
I primarily use CFE BLK for 230gr cast 300blk performance is great. Toying around with loads for 458 socom currently using w296 but curious how CFE BLK will perform.
Don't forget 300hamr. Seen other mention of it in the comments as well. BTW I am here in Washington would love to visit you and I have 300hamr if interested 😂 shameless try 😂
I’m using it in 20Vartarg and 17 Hornet and 17 Fireball
I use CFE Pistol in both 45 Auto and 357 sig.
Building a 9inch blackout now. 300blk , 1680 and 4227 are on my radar.
Nothing neat H110 for supers or 1680 for subs
@@AgileK9TopDogsame
@thegunsngloryshoware you getting it to cycle? I like it compared to the super fine other powders in the burn rate category, but it doesn't really produce enough gas for subsonic even with a can, and you get lower velocities for supers...
@@AgileK9TopDogis that 1680 temp sensitive?
Tried it in .17 Hornet. It grouped very poorly. Lil' gun and AA1680 performed MUCH better with 1680 the best, the latter being the standard powder for the cartridge. I will eventually retest CFEBLK as it had to have been some type of anomaly to have groups that large.
I have a few lbs of CFE BLK but haven’t used it because I hear it’s LOUD used in .300 subs
Need some 44 MAG rifle data for it
I use it for 458 socom
The best powder for 300 Ham’r and 762x40 loads.
geez
where I live there are no handload components available and a very small selection of handgun and rifle ammo and very expensive to boot .
thank you demoncrats and rinos
Order it from the same place you’re watching this video. It’s called the Internet.
I run my 350 legend with cfeBLK and .346 moa at 100yard
180gr at 2054 fps
.346 for a 3 or 5 shot group? Shoot 10 rounds for a mean dispersions radius is more accurate representation
6.5 grendal cfe223
300 ham'r ❤️🔥
...how is it for 6.5 Grendel???
458 SOCOM
If you've run it in 7.62x39 is it viable for Grendel or ARC?
No. It's way too fast for 6.5 Grendel and 6 ARC. Though CFE223 is very good in both of those calibers.
@@shaunsonus that's what I thought
CFE223 in the Grendel is amazing.
Could this powder, cfeblk, be suited for the 30-30 winchester?
Too fast burning
Howa 1500 mini Lapua brass 123gr Hornady SST 123GR .310 28.2gr cfe blk ave 2494fps baboon slaying recipe and combination for my purposes
What about grouping?
Just started loading supers with this stuff on 143 fmj ball and i can't make it group.
Follow up:
Tossed a few 212 HDY ELD-X downrange from a Starline case and a 450 primer.
LIL-gun - 1.5moa
CFE BLK 4moa
WTF?
@@rossdonaghy1748Powder is just one equation. You can always adjust seating depth and neck tension to get better groups.
@@echofoxtrotwhiskey1595 This information has been brought to my attention. i would like someone to tell me how much better i could expect though.... can you bring it in from 5 to 1? that seems a stretch.
Get a silver pigeon and get some tgt 12 wads and load 1oz or 7/8. Come down and shoot granite falls
300 blk , 7.62 x39 mm cfe pistol for 9mm 10mm , 40 s&w .45 ACP and clays for .38 spl and a soft recoil .44 mag. cfe 223 for 223 and 308 , 296 for 350 legend or 300 blk
👍👍
