  • This project took A Time™. But that is okay because they are finally done! And in time for the worst of the summer heat as well!
    Want to make your own split drawers AKA bloomers AKA knickerbockers? I really encourage you to do so! Despite my mid-project break, they were surprisingly easy to make once I finally got down to it.

    I was actually in the middle of putting this exact pattern to paper when I came across your video. Well done. It gave me a prelude to sewing these drawers up which hopefully I will complete this weekend. I will not be sewing by hand, rather, I will be using my treadle machine instead. Thank you so much for sharing. Wonderful work. 😊

    Knickerbockers! What a fabulous name for a fabulous piece of clothing! Your comment and insight about doing the easier thing when that helps you actually do the thing is a wonderful reminder for me right now. Thank you for sharing!!

    Wonderful ❤️ I sew for a living, doing enormous amounts of repairs and alterations. I do so love watching and listening to creative stitching.
    You sew very well ! So pleasing to watch .

    Your drawers are enchanting!
    I cannot express how excited I was to see that the book you linked to had a bookplate stating that it had been in the library of knitting teacher extraordinaire Montse Stanley. There are only about four people I know who could understand why this was such a treat!

    I tried using this pattern and got confused. I appreciate the explanation of the pattern. I ended up switching patterns to make a pair of drawers. I love the final product so cute!

      It took me quite a while to figure out exactly how the pattern was meant to be drafted too! They can be quite a mental workout.

    Thank you for sharing that fascinating book! I must say, it sort of did my head in, all the grids. I studied patternmaking and I was reasonable at it, but maths really isn't my strong suit and now that I don't have a teacher to check my work, if I'm even the slightest bit tired I make mistakes. So as fascinating as the garments in the book were, I think I'll give them a miss. By the way I feel you on "whatever gets the garment done." I've been trying to work through some UFOs, one of which was sitting there for eight years before I finished it. Turns out with some UFOs, there's a *reason* why you put them down.

    Hello and good afternoon. It is currently raining where I am (perfect for the vegetable garden) and the flowers have began to bloom. Thank you this has helped to motivate me to work on my own projects.

    These are fabulous! I want to make myself a pair. I love your Quality Manager!! A very cute kitty. I also have a black cat who likes to sit on my sewing projects 😂She prefers on to sit the paper patterns but is intrigued by large pieces of fabric too.

I picked up that book second hand - love it. About to start a late era bustle ensemble from the inside out so chemise first, then drawers. Looking forward to seeing your other videos.

    Ive heard you want drawers to cover your knees to protect them from the constant rubbing of starched petticoats.

    • @KristineVike
      @KristineVike  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had not heard that. Interesting!

    The drawers turned out so cute and well made! Inspired me to make my own :)
    I am also from Norway and love sewing. May I ask where you get your fabrics and thread? I see you only use natural fabrics, but do you use natural thread as well? I am wondering if I should use polyester or cotton in my projects, and any inputs would be great! :)

    • @KristineVike
      @KristineVike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah, thank you! I’m afraid there is no easy answer to this. This particular linen came from a friend who went to Egypt and brought back this gorgeous thin but densely woven fabric that I *love*, but have never seen anything like in Norway and will indeed be quite sad when I’ve used it all up. My experience is that small, independent fabric shops are often more open to letting you look through their sample books and may even order in fabrics they don’t have.
      To your other question, yes! I do use linen/silk/cotton thread when I sew. That is from personal preference and a desire for my projects to ultimately be entirely compostable, so your priorities might be different from mine. :)

    • @lillianvo7110
      @lillianvo7110 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Buying fabrics while being overseas is such a good idea, never thought of it. The goal of being totally compostable actually seems satisfying to me. Thank you for taking your time to answer, appreciate it. Ha en fin helg :)

      @@KristineVike I don't know if they have exactly the right linen for your purposes but Estonia is really great for linen and quite affordable. Obviously if you can't go there, that limits things a bit...but I'm sure there are online stores. Apparently Latvia is also good.

    can you explain the "2 left legs" comment? i'm pretty new at sewing and i've never done pants before and i'm confused. thank you.

    • @KristineVike
      @KristineVike  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you truly look at your arms and legs, you will notice that they are actually mirror images of each other, not identical. The same needs to be true for what we make. If we make “2 left legs”, the end result will not look symmetrical once it actually gets on a human body. Hope that helps! :)
