I made a walking skirt based on this video in fall 2021. I used a wool fabric to have a skirt for winter and now after the second winter it urgently needs some mending. But I still love it very much sobthe mending will happen as soon as I have time. And I will most probably make another one from another fabric because it's really simple and I am not a big fan of pattern making. So thank you for the inspiration!!
Oh my😮 I learnt to sew on a similar sewing machine when I was a teenager! So nice as I've decided to sew my clothes again after seeing how store bought items are so bad nowadays no matter what price you put😅 😊. Like you I try to use a maximum of fabric. Cheers

I didn’t know double layer linen was a thing! How absolutely marvellous it looks! I want to make a nice walking skirt and saving on fabric is a huge plus, I’ll probably try to get the pocket into a sideseam but the skirt (secret pants) have no pockets and convenient side seams so I will try a welt! Also your video is very clear and you have some really nice shots!
Aw, thank you! I do somewhat regret not doing regular side seam pockets for this fabric (because it is so soft and drapey), but welt pockets are fun too! Definitely recommend a stiffer support fabric if your main fabric is very drapey.😊

@2:54 does it really make a difference wether it's hung or not? Just to clarify, the hanging was done after the side seams, and before the gathering and waistband?
It has made a surprisingly big difference, especially when the skirt seams are on the bias or even slightly on the bias. If making a tiered skirt with several different layers where everything is straight grain rectangles it would have much less of an effect. But yes, after the side seams, but I would do the gathering and the waistband too. The important thing is to wait with the leveling of the hem. Which I am not always this good about doing... and it does show, to the point where I am considering re-leveling the hem on some of my skirts, if it wouldn't make them so much shorter too.

Sorry for asking but i'm trying to make a long skirt for my elf witchy medieval style character but i was wondering what other fabric we can use because linen or wool is pretty expensive to me :')
I love it! I have made a similar skirt (the pattern in order to make the skirt as wide as possible with the little fabric I had) but didn't take into account that it might stretch and end up uneven, so I cut the hem before I let it stretch. Fortunately, the fabric wasn't as loose so I didn't have issues, but it's good to know for next time :)
While I haven’t tried it out myself, I have heard from larger seamstresses that, while conceptually similar, you might have to make different adjustments. For instance if the area right under the chest is smaller than the waist, a skirt will often ride up there, and you may wish to make that the length you level the skirt at too, if that is the most comfortable. The “run a gathering thread and try on to fit” should still work, but you may have to add some more panels for width and still get a nice flare of the skirt. Hope that helps! :)

True! I did notice this, but I found that with my simple fabric, having the back seam on the diagonal was not visible or weird. Especially with all the gathers. :) If you haven’t cut out you fabric yet, I also have another black skirt video that has a symmetrical pattern, if you prefer that! :)
I’m not entirely sure how you mean, but I made sure the total sum of the top of all the panels were significantly bigger than my natural waist to allow for gathering. The bottom was eyeballed, but I tried to get the angle relatively similar on all of them, to limit loss of fabric from one bias seam being much longer than another. Hope that helps!

To measure a hem, tape a piece of chalk to a table top.
I love it! I have made a similar skirt (the pattern in order to make the skirt as wide as possible with the little fabric I had) but didn't take into account that it might stretch and end up uneven, so I cut the hem before I let it stretch. Fortunately, the fabric wasn't as loose so I didn't have issues, but it's good to know for next time :)
