Jeudi 17 novembre 2011, 60 musiciens sont venus jouer un extrait de l'Arlésienne de Bizet dans le grand hall de la Gare du Nord, à Paris !
C'est le lancement de la 4ème édition d'Orchestres en fête, grand événement organisé dans toute la France depuis 2008. Pendant dix jours au mois de novembre, les orchestres membres de l'Association Française des Orchestres ouvrent leurs portes à tous les publics pour montrer que la musique classique vit au coeur de la cité ! www.orchestrese...
Thursday, November 17, 2011, 60 musicians showed up to play an excerpt of the "Arlesienne" by Bizet in the hall of Paris North station !
This flashmob launched the fourth edition of Orchestres en fête !, a tremendous and nationwide event organized since 2008. For ten days in November, 41 orchestras, all members of the French Association of Orchestras open their doors to everyone. All the events set up during Orchestres en fête !, like this flashmob, are dedicated to show that classical music lives in the very heart of the city !

I love the flash mob videos, especially when I am at work as a psychiatric nurse here in Houston, Texas. The music and dancing is my sanity saver in my extremely stressful job. Last night at work, I had a vanilla pudding shower provided by one of our naked female patients who was openly sitting in the hall as if this was the most natural occurring event in the world. She threw the pudding cup at me as the staff and I tried to escort her to her room in order to get her clothed.
I'm sure it wasn't as much fun as you make it sound, but I'm laughing my head off. There are very few things as funny as naked ladies throwing pudding. I suppose the other staff might take it the wrong way if you suddenly were to burst out laughing at the situation you find yourself in.
A good laugh and sense of humor has saved many a nurse's, staff's sanity. The one memory that still sticks in my mind happened about 4 years ago. I was busy charting away at the nurses' station desk when I looked up to see an extremely obese, naked, black woman running and jumping from one table to the other in the dining room. She really had a knack for "scaring the horses".
She obviously liked being naked and was trying to tell you something.

As a youngster I shunned classical music with all the usual jokes, having said that, I was bought up in a family that appreciated rock and roll, then I began listening to groups like queen and the electric light orchestra, suddenly the line between rock n roll and classical music became blurred, and for this I am thankful, it gave me the chance to be able to appreciate performances such as this video, thank you.

Lovely, lovely, so exhilarating. I watched another of these orchestral flashes and it is so great how everyone gets momentarily involved and then everything just melts away. The sort of thing that when you remember you are not sure if it was a dream. The brass sounded phenomenal, set the hairs on the back of my neck upright even on film. Great stuff.
