  • @patsmith7532
    @patsmith7532 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1532

    The fact that Beethoven was completely deaf by the time he composed this, the final and most famous movement in his renowned 9th Symphony, is beyond incredible. He wrote "Ode to Joy" to accompany the words of a poem by the same name by the German poet and philosopher, Friedrich Schiller. It's a lyrical paean to the miracle of brotherhood, and what happiness can spark when mankind gathers as brothers under the sheltering wings of joy.
    My thanks to the conductor, the wonderful Rubén Gimeno, and all the musicians and singers who made this happen. I plan to watch this as my daily "happiness pill" from now on.

    • @patsmith7532
      @patsmith7532 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@imac610 , I think you are right. I believe that is probably exactly how Beethoven did it. He had to have heard all the instruments in his head in order to compose such a beautiful piece, with such dramatic changes in mood and pacing building to that glorious finale.

      stupid uneducated question: are conductors necessary? i ask with respect.

    • @patsmith7532
      @patsmith7532 4 ปีที่แล้ว +68

      @@pmacc3557 , I am not a musician but used to sing in a choir and we would have been lost without our conductor. He kept everyone on the beat, let us know when to sing softly and when to belt it out...he really controlled everything about the performance and brought out our best.
      Think about what an orchestra is...dozens of people seated in a semi-circle playing many different types of instruments arranged in groups...brass, strings, rhythm...and often, as in this case, voices as well. They cannot all see each other, so without a conductor, even though they all have the same music, how would they know when to start? How could they all rise to a crescendo in unison if they were not following the rhythmic motion of a conductor's arms?
      I know that to some, conductors just look like a guy waving his arms around, but they are so much more than that. Think of them as the traffic cop at a busy intersection without lights. They control the flow of traffic with their arms and whistles in much the same way that a conductor controls the flow of music (minus the whistle, of course.) Without a conductor, an orchestra would not sound nearly so pleasing, melodic or synchronous.

      art is one of the best things that humanity has ever created and as a musician I can tell you that playing together with someone else is the best feeling.
      You might then have this perception of music as a form of expression of how much good humanity is and then it might remember that, even though we have made so many mistakes in history, when we work together we can make wonderful things.

    These things make me cry. As a musician, I know how long it takes go coordinate these things and the effort that goes into learning the perfect timing and the rhythm. They must've worked very diligently to get all this together. It makes me cry happy tears because they do this for the people. They go and put in the effort to see the smiles and looks of awe and grandeur of such a beautiful performance.

    For those of you who keep saying this is fake because it's not spontaneous: No flashmob is spontaneous, they are often meticulously planned. If they were truly spontaneous, they would never happen since by definition, spontaneity requires a lack of premeditation. 50 people don't just show up in a public space and decide to dance to Beyonce without first communicating the idea to each other. You also missed the point of this video which was to enjoy the beauty of the music and the joy it brings to people.

    Yes, it's an ad campaign. Yes, it was overdubbed in a studio and produced for video. But there were unaware people around, i'll bet the performance probably took place and was quite a spectacle for the unaware. And the power of music is translated through the video. Overall, really a nice thing,
    For those of you who "figured it out" as being a production....wow, can't pull one over on you. Lighten up...enjoy the production, nobody was trying to pull a massive earth shattering hoax or something. It's music.

    For the people who's asking.
    This is the Catalan version of the "Ode to Joy"(Himne de l'Alegría), from the 4th movement of the Beethoven's 9th symphony.
    The title is Cant de Joia, and the text was made by Joan Margall.
    Those are the actual lyrics that appears in the video:
    "Joia que ets dels déus guspira generada dalt del cel,
    vent de foc el pit respira sota els plecs del teu sant vel."
    "Si ajuntar-se els cors demanen, que un mal vent va separant,
    tots els homes s’agermanen on tes ales van tocant."
    "Si fortuna generosa ens ha dat un bon company,
    oh companya graciosa cantarem amb més afany!"

    This is in Sabadell, near to Barcelona, Spain.
    This video has magic. You cannot not have tears. Beethoven would be so happy. :)

      Yes, you are so right it is magic and it also shows us something else like the way people from Sabadell are on to music, they just love it-the good music I mean- you can see people of all ages there enjoying clasic music and the older ones encouriging marv elous well responding children to it. Yes it brings us tears every time we see and we will never get tired of seeng it. Yes it hasa magic.

      Dit is toch wel zo,n krankzinnig goed orkest en samen met dit koor, is echt pure magie. Ik hoop dat wanneer ik weer naar een concert van Amira Willighagen ga ( nu net 13 jaar geworden) ,dat dit orkest en koor dit samen met haar doen. Wanneer Amira en dit orkest helemaal voluit gaan, heb je toch echt een uniek muzikaal stuk geschiedenis.

      O , mocht u willen weten wie Amira Willighagen is . Gaat u dan vooral luisteren naar haar geweldige optredens met haar weergaloze stem geluid en geweldige persoonlijkheid. bv het O Sole Mio dat zij samen met Patrizio Buanne ten gehore brengt. Amira is echt een klasse apart.

    This is probably the best piece of music ever made (the whole 9th symphony is amazing, but the 4th movement...omg)

    Cuando me emocioné con este video por primera vez, ni siquiera imaginaba estar viviendo hoy en Sabadell, y caminar por esta plaza casi a diario. Las lindas sorpresas de la vida😊

    Notice how all the Spanish seem to know how to take video in landscape mode? Why cannot everyone else learn this simple lesson? And I've watched this video at least 50 times since I found it and just love it!

      Ok, let's say a lot of catalans (but not all of them) are spanish people by obligation.

      SHM 99 Oh well. I'm not one to stand on ceremony or label. It was a compliment, but clearly you want to stand on a label while ignoring a compliment. BTW, GFY labeler.

      Nope, I can tell you that Catalans and Spaniards record in vertical as often as the rest of the world. We're all equally technologically clueless, which is something beautiful in a way

    Instead of politicians, I wish these amazing talented musicians put a concert on all conflict borders to show how beautiful our mankind. May be that's when all countries respect each other and treat all as equal than showing power and strength .... wow so amazing talent. PEACE ✌️

    I discovered this video only about a year ago, and the emotion it evoked then is still with me now. I watch this frequently and it never fails to move me. How I would have loved to have been there! I hope the children who clearly enjoyed the performance will keep that memory. Wonderful - and joyous!

    It's unfortunate that real, human crafted, music.. is something of a spectacle and so uncommon that it draws a crowd who watches in disbelief...

      even if it was common, people would still flock around it in awe.

    • @kurostraws
      @kurostraws 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      it has nothing really to do something with it.Just like dragonzerul said,even if it was common people would gather around it and listen to it.Or we could see it like that:
      It's just the way we work,we see something that doesnt happen all the time on the street or see people gather around something and our mind tells us to look for it ourselves.Many people at one place makes us curious so even if there was a normal ordinary little street cat,we would look and see for it since many people are standing at one place.

      Unfortunate? Not everyone can have the luxury of going to a Theater or an Opera House. What's the big deal! Just watch,listen and enjoy it!

    Every part of the video is amazing but from 4:08 and forward is totally the best. The instruments, the singing, the people, the feeling, it's just really really heartwarming
