    I couldn’t agree with you more! The over-validation and over-identification with one’s diagnoses is the greatest harm that therapists are committing. I’ve been saying this for some time. Therapists are also creating generations of self obsessed and borderline narcissistic individuals. Clients are often upset when I want to empower them and instill agency, instead wanting further validation. Most of the time all of this is purely justification for maladaptive behaviors in their lives.
    I truly believe the ignorance in our field might be causing the greatest amount of harm in our entire society.

    More worrying is the fact that in supervision this faulty thinking and the rigid, ingrained training is never challenged.
    Supervision is full of harmful resources that support the wrong belief that the clients are to be blamed because there's something wrong with them. There isn't! Their reactions fully match their horrible experiences and a continuous flow of trauma. I find myself in a dilemma where I have to pretend that supervision is helpful to protect both myself and the people I work with...

    the harms are well known and yet the literature consistently says its 'under researched' ive worked in industry for years and very few people even mention the harms - most people drop out and there is ZERO follow up.
