In this video, I’ll take you through the DIY process of how I built this ~3.5' x 5.5' homemade welding fixture table all from scratch in my home garage shop. I’m a designer and maker so kicking this project off my main goals in mind for this table was it needed to be large enough to fit my needs, to include a place to organize my tools (storage hack) and be able to hold work pieces in an accurate and repeatable way.
    Video Chapters:
    0:00 - Intro
0:49 - The goal for the welding table. What I was using before.
1:27 - Researching different types of weld fixture tables to buy.
    1:49 - Designing table in 3D SolidWorks
3:14 - Figuring out what table height should be
    3:50 - Storage Ideas
4:21 - Making the table top frame and table legs
    6:42 - Installing the casters
6:52 - Cutting the top welding metal plate to size with circular saw
8:15 - Drilling the holes for the fixture table with a magnetic drill
10:12 - Chamfering the fixture holes
10:56 - Installing the electrical outlets
11:18 - Bolting down the table plate to the table frame
12:26 - Installing the debris catch trays
12:59 - Adding perforated metal to lower base for additional storage
13:52 - Installing wall control metal pegboard storage
14:17 - Adjusting the table metal plate flatness
15:41 - The final result of the Garage DIY weld fixture table workbench

1/2” top is the star of this build. I was quoted a small fortune for a 30”x48”x3/8” top. Can’t imagine how much that top set you back... Great build. Subbing!!!

    • @RathaSochenda
      @RathaSochenda  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I was able to purchase a remnant 5ft x 8ft x 1/2” thick plate in my neck of woods for about $400. I could of saved another $60 bucks had I had them cut it down to 3.5ft x 5.5ft. But I figured it was nice to have extra for future projects. If I purchased a new 4x8x1/2 thick plate it would of ran me $560. So I guess it kind of all depends... The crazy part is I actually wanted 3/4” thick plate just to future proof it for life. But that was $$$. Thanks for the sub!👍

Ratha well done with your welding table! As similar professionally made welding table costs @ $1800 Aussie dollars including clamping and fixtures. That table is smaller than yours. I did like the addition of the catch trays as they will be great for reducing how much crap falls down onto your tools stored below. A second benefit is when a screw or nut or something else small and value falls through the holes and it will, it will be easier to find it in the tray rather than searching through your stored equipment. I was surprised that the wood router and carbide bit worked so well as a Carpenter of 36 years I was actually expecting disaster. I thought that the 3 inch hole centre’s was an interesting choice. Have to think about that one and see how it works for you. You will find the table is great for cabinetmaking projects but be prepared to oil your table first with a canola oil spray like used for cooking and to lay down wax proof paper when doing a large glue up because there will be glue spills and runs no matter what. Same thing goes for painting items, a protective surface benefits your project and your welding table.

dude, Im still sitting here jaw wide open, that you cut that top 1/2" plate down with a circular saw like that!! I work in aerospace super alloy, and we cut everything from .300" up to 20 inches thick with abrasive blades. Just like a 60" grind wheel on a cut-off grinder. I love the way you bolted it down with tabs. Just before you said it, I thought that will give you a chance to level out any low spots. Now years later if you start to get a warped spot you can draw it out with those jack bolts like that. This is one of the best I've seen so far.

Then you can set your mag drill up on them and they will be good to go. The second thing is make the perimeter flat bar four pieces instead of lots of little bits. Impressed with you making the table top. Wow, at the beginning of the vid I was like, yea, normal fab stuff. I do that all day. I would have bet you bought the table top. Cool af. The hole jig was a great idea. Gonna watch the rest to see your tool layout. I'm sure I'll learn something.
A little back ground. I'm a manufacturing engineer who designs (in Inventor) welding cells for a manufacturer of class 8 truck truck and trailer frames. Weld tables, weld fixtures, assembly fixtures, you name it. Around 38 part # specific weld cells in our shop with 120 welders in two shifts. Imma steal some of your ideas for sure, lol. Great vid man glad I ran across it. Subbed.

that is a sick table... lots of pride there... i dont think the amount of time and cost of material would be worth it to not spend the hight dollar to purchase one on the market as time is money but your table is far superior in craftsmanship and such a bad ass one off table... nicely done!!! great video as well!

Yeah I know what you mean time is money. At the end of day this was just a fun one for me with lots of things learned in the process. I don’t what it is but I really loved the process of making this homemade table. And when friends come by the shop they really admire it too. 😊

That's got to be the best diy home built fab table I've ever seen... Well thought out, made to a reasonable and easily workable size and dimensions, perfectly executed, and finished out to perfection... This from a 57 year old,45+ years welding and fabricating guy who has built a few welding tables throughout the decades ... Top notch work, and those table plate adjustment blocks are the s4it... Fine job there...

I watch lots of builds, you made the table build as easy and able to be done as quickly as possible. The ease of your leveling, best I've seen. May need to build one myself. I do both metal fab and wood working. Thanks keep up the good work.
