    Thanks a lot for sharing. I have this BMS and you did a great job of summarizing the settings. Just a note about something I saw in another video. If your BMS isn’t charging or discharging, make sure to hook up the temperature sensor. I didn’t realize that it wouldn’t work without it. (I live in Hawaii so I didn’t think it would ever get too hot/cold.)

    Great video but I have a question. I have lithium ion polymer battery packs from a Hyundai Ioniq 2019. My question is, if you have no idea of the capacity of the cells, like I don't, how can I set any parameters. Luckily the packs are all 48v 12s. I have asked on forums as to how to test a pack to see what it's capabilities are but how can I when I don't know what 100% charged looks like? Any advice would be great. Keep up the great work 👍 David

    Thanks for the video. I'm assuming these settings are for a stationary solar battery? What settings would you recommend for a 15s battery that replaced four 12v AGM batteries for a Ryobi zero turn lawn mower? I had 100Ah on the four AGM batteries and this new custom built battery is 100Ah also. I was thinking I would set it to charge to 90% and stop at 10% SOC to preserve the battery?

But I have a question, if in charging the bms receives a load above the maximum, what happens? for example it can charge 100a and receive 150a. Does it charge the 100a and ignore the remaining 50, or does it shut off and charge nothing or does it burn out?

    If you turn the battery OFF with the discharge switch from the Bluetooth application, after a few minutes you cannot wake the battery on again cause of the sleep mode of the application. You have to put a load on the battery in order to wake the BMS up or have one of those red battery capacity external switches that has a power button on it in order to wake the battery up again. Is there a trick to this to wake the battery from the application or disable the sleep setting?

I noticed when I switch it to dual motor and quickly accelerate it dies out and won’t turn back on unless I wake up the battery by unplugging it and plugging it back in. Does that have anything to do with the Daly because the surge of voltage is being used suddenly. Do I need to change the settings?

  • @hardylioness
    @hardylioness 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have 4 lifepo cells 280ah total and they have gone incredibly out of balance. The balance doesn't seem to work, despite setting these parameters. It would be nice if you did a video of how the balancing works, showing it working. Also, does it need to be charging when it balances or does it do it when it rests?
    I cannot fathom how a company can put out a piece of hardware that is seemingly so complicated (and you can actually damage your batteries with incorrect settings) with no manual. I would never buy one of these again, that's for sure! Thanks for the video.

    Hi Chris I reduced the setting for balancing down to 2.5V but balancing is off. The battery is above 90% SOC. The balance diff is 0.05V, but the diff volts is 0.03. I set the balance diff to 0.02V and the balance turned on. Yay!
    It won't set to 0.01V though.
    Could I turn off the solar and change the settings in some way to enable me to use the BMS to read the capacity of the battery by allowing the battery to discharge until a cell reaches the minimum voltage setting?

    • @bildad1234
      @bildad1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The passive cell balancing on the Daly is useless, it can only shave off 20mA off the highest cell, so is pointless. If you top balance your cells to 3.6V and they are all the same age and internal resistance then you will not need cell balancing for a few years till the cells start to degrade.
      To preserve your cells set max cell charge to 3.5v and low cell discharge to 2.75V.
      I'm not sure how the Daly understands SOC. Most BMS use the cell voltage for SOC which is highly inaccurate for LiFeP04 as the difference between 20% and 80% is 0.2V.
      Best to put a shunt on your battery to determine SOC.

    • @sapoty
      @sapoty 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bildad1234 I've got a 3 bar radiator and each bar takes 500W (pretty accurately). So that's a pretty good shunt I think. My cells were out of a used home made EV. It's likely they are not uniform SOC. It should be 10KWh but I suspect it is down to about 8KWh.

    • @bildad1234
      @bildad1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sapoty Your radiator is a load, not a shunt. A shunt reads amps in and out of your battery.
      How many cells and what voltage is your battery?

    • @sapoty
      @sapoty 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bildad1234 16 LFP cells 48V. When new 200Ah. I'd rather measure KWh than Amps. The BMS gives Wattage continuously, but there is no cumulative calculation of KWh unfortunately.
      The radiator is powered by a 3 KW inverter and maintains a stable load selectable with one two or three bars. So that seems to be the easiest way to get an idea of the battery capacity. I just read the battery voltage every half hour to plots graph of discharge.

    • @bildad1234
      @bildad1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      LiFeP04 charges with a simple CV/CC algorithm.
      At 14.2V each cell is 3.55V. So as you get closer to fully charged the current will reduce because for current to flow it has to flow from a higher voltage to a lower voltage.
      So lets say you have a discharged battery at 11V and you charge at 14.2V /20A.
      Your battery will take all those amps until it starts to get full. Once you get to 13.4V or 3.45V per cell your battery is pretty much full but because the voltage difference the current will be much lower.
      A designated LiFeP04 charger will BULK charge till it sense the current drop off. Then it will just feed in a constant voltage with low amps, this is called ABSORPTION. Once battery is fully saturated it will shut off all charging and enter into Float.
      Why your power supply is fluctuating from 7A to 0 is a bit of a mystery? How are you measuring that fluctuation?
