Have you been confused with what Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is? Learn why your child might seem so different than other children with SPD. For more info visit: healthyfamilymn.com/sensory-pr...
Thank you for explaining!! For a long while I thought I might have ADHD and it was a really tough and confusing time, but when I went to the doctors they diagnosed me with SPD! This finally gave me answers to so many questions and I'm so glad I'm finally figuring things out! But after a while, just like before, I started doubting if I even had SPD cause I saw other kids with the same disorder having completely different experiences, so this helped a lot! Thanks!
Thank you for making comparisons. I am new to the autism club. Late too! I'm 35. I have 6 children. As we know adhd and autism are super hereditary! I'm checking out and really liking your videos. Thank you! I'm an oversharer. Can you tell? Lmao
I have SPD, and the change from the relatively quiet speaking to the (OMG SO LOUD) music at the end was reeeeally triggering. Can someone PLEASE re-mix the sound?
there are slowly too many diagnoses in not enough hugs, acceptance and not forcing others to be what they arent... kids need to be out under other kids... they copy each other, learn frim each other "during their playing"... sport games dancing laughter together creation silence books nature together but not always like a eagle eye over kid... let kids be kids and let them keep the little kid alive for later...
I would search for two types of practitioners - 1) A sensory trained OT who does reflex integration (such as Musgatova or Rhythmic Movement Therapy) and 2) A pediatric trained chiropractor
I have a friend who can’t listen to guttural low sounds. She describes it as she feels like she’s crushing inward. She also says she doesn’t watch movies because if there’s anything traumatic or intense happening that vision stays with her and she feels the same inner, crushing, feeling (it doesn’t seem to matter why the genre is). She will only watch reality, drama, tv shows (real housewives, below deck, anything on bravo basically). I’ve always thought that to be kind of strange since those shows are riddled with every drama and interpersonal relationships which can absolutely be traumatic in real life - not television. Those are just two examples but would that be considered as SPD? I’m asking because she finds it hard to put into words (not articulating but describing it for others to understand) and I want to understand better.
Hmmm, that sounds different than SPD. The way you describe it seems it's more likely an old trauma or stress that her nervous system experienced. When she hears those low guttural sounds or an intense movie it's reminding her of that past experience, and triggering her nervous system in a similar way it did when it originally happened.
@@wholefamilychiropractic thanks for getting back. That’s why I asked, I’ve thought the same thing and the more I look into SPD the further it sounds from what she actually has.
Yes, it can exist independent of ADHD. It can often be involved with other diagnoses (like ADHD, autism, anxiety, etc). For TSA, I'm not sure what that abbreviation stands for

@@wholefamilychiropractic hi thankyou I haveuscle pain shoulders heals and the tension in muscles hurt more when used I've had slow motion symptoms years ago I thought maybe related thankyou
They’re completely different. I have sensory processing disorder, but people have never even though that I might have autism, and I don’t think I do either. And while that can’t guarantee that I don’t, I’ve never shown any symptoms or anything. Also, people with autism aren’t always effected by sensory thins. I went to school with a girl who didn’t have any triggers or anything, although it was a mild case. They’re two completely different things, though it’s completely possible for someone to have both at the same time.
I am on the autism spectrum and I also have sensory processing disorder. They are separate things though. I know of people who only have sensory processing disorder and not autism, and I also know many people with autism without sensory processing disorder.
Many people without autism have spd. Many people with autism have spd. It's just something that happens with the wiring of the brain being different. When you have spd your brains wiring is differnt then a neurological person.
My boyfriend has SPD and this video helps me to understand it better. Well explained. Thank you!
You're welcome!
I appreciate the whiteboard and your clear easy way of speaking and explaining 🙏
Thank you for commenting and I'm glad it was helpful!
Why have I never heard of this? All the years and all the doctors and therapists. This is what I have. It's gotta be.
Keep looking into it!
I have spd and this is the single best example
Me too
This is a perfect explanation! Thank you for breaking it down.
Wow thanks you explained this beautifully
Most people don't understand this at all. Good explanation.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for your comment!

This sounds like it may be Misophonia? I’m not a doctor or medical person at all. Just something worth looking into
No😊😅😅😅

Does sensory processing disorder cause pain
Not necessarily. There are lots of different "senses" SPD can have an effect on...I would say the sense of pain is not very commonly affected.
@@wholefamilychiropractic hi thankyou I haveuscle pain shoulders heals and the tension in muscles hurt more when used I've had slow motion symptoms years ago I thought maybe related thankyou
1 yr late but i'm autistic with spd and it definitely causes physical pain for me if it's too intense
I wish spd would become an official diagnosis i mean if asd and adhd can why cant spd
Agreed!
Is sensory processing disorder separate from autism spectrum disorder? And if so - why? How are they different?
I have sensory problems but I'm not on the spectrum.

Yes, different but they often go hand in hand
