    The Blues genre is probably the most inspiring genre ever.

  •  13 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Although he is soloing over a typical blues chord progression, he's way different than any blues player, even in this video he shows his own way of following chords and expressing melodies, and this is like his signature. Marty is one of the greatest and most original guitarists of all time.

    marty is the most complete guitar player in world, nobody can preform his song exactly, the best in my opinion

    I've always recognized Marty as a super talented player, since probably the late 80's when I got his album "dragon kiss" never seen play though, it seems he has a very unusual angle on his right wrist .. anyone else pondered about that ? is there a thought behind it, or is it just the way his technique developed .. just curious .. I wish I could play like him :)

    @codebabe Original Heavy Metal yes. Black sabbath is a was a blues band when they were called Earth. They played the same stuff just with distortion and different lyrics.

  • @1971SuperLead
    @1971SuperLead 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @1madaboutguitar, He's no BB King but he can play them blues quite well. However, I find that youtube doesn't have any very good examples of his playing of the blues. A friend of mine played me a CD a couple times of Yngwie playing the blues and I was most impressed with his feel. I suppose the studio was a better avenue for him then playing live.

    @ridethelightning64 Well to Paul Gilberts defense he is a VERY talented played. In fact he is up there among my favorites. Probably Marty, SRV, Paul, Dave Mustaine. He can play the shred blues much like Marty here can. It's just a different style of blues.

  • @imbaguitar
    @imbaguitar 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    what you obviously don't realize is that blues is all about feeling and emotions, not just the pentatonic scale... And im guessing you mean blues pentatonic.

    I really like the blues and am very interested in learning the classics but there's only so much u can learn from searching "blues" on youtube lol does anyone have songs/artists that would be worth my time to look up? thx a bunch!

  • @jordanvanderwerf
    @jordanvanderwerf 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    LOL, yeah the standard position is what I used, I tried playin like that, but my best advice is, almost straight from Martys mouth himself, but it is to not even look at you picking hand, and just do what feels best.

    @nr900 Zakk Wylde? Slash? They simply started out mastering the blues, because Hard Rock and Heavy Metal stem from the blues. Tons of metal guitarists play blues, only the like all-out death metal guitarists are the shredders that can't play blues. Vai and Petrucci can definitely both play blues. Dream Theater covers Pink Floyd (which is slow blues), and I've seen a video of Steve Vai playing "Little Wing", and it was a little more metal than Jimi's version, but it was still blues at heart.

    ive always felt it easier to do marty's stuff, he just has a looser style, whereas jason, you'd have to really really stay in time, at least for the perpetual burn album, i guess its just what you feel more comfortable with

    Hmmm... I think you have taken my comment out of context.
    My comment was directed at people who think that anyone who plays a single note outside a blues scale doesn't know how to play blues.

    @RiceKiller191 Not really. Maybe metal in its earliest stages it was but if you listen to most metal that has come out since thrash there really isn't a lot of blues going on that often.

  • @skorpian34
    @skorpian34 17 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Who the hell's licks do you think Marty, Jason Becker etc were copping as kids ? YNGWIE's. And it prolly helped that they had metronomes for pacifiers.
    Yes, Yngwie is fat and Marty is not, because Yngwie eats gold bars, caviar and pussy. Marty eats that cereal with Paul Gilbert's pic on the box. Tastes great, less filling. Even Paul doesn't eat that shit.
    All that being said. Marty played a phenomonal blues piece here.
    Cheers !

  • @MrIbanez87
    @MrIbanez87 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like how he stayed pentatonic to keep the same tone. Many "shredder" turned blues players switch to diatonic and start sweeping. Totally loses the feeling. Well, excecuted Marty!

  • @aryinc
    @aryinc 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    and thats better just make them or base them of if you play them by school youlle end up ending what thetheori want instead of whats in your head,invetually you just want to bring your ideas to live if theyre theorythically correct that isnt the first matter.

    Yes perfectly explained shaqdadd11 but alot of blues fundamentalists cant handle anyone playing a note outside th pentatoinic
    Mainly because if that was accpeted as blues then they be forced to take a look at their own playing and realise how limited it is
    And lets face it, most people who just stick to pentatonic blues do so because they cant play anything else...sorry

    It's not like he's trying to save his "guitar player"* repution by playing blues !

    * Seriously, does anyone hear a god damned thing whenever he's playing?

  • @1madaboutguitar
