      Assalammualaikum Brother. I didn't do exactly like in the video but i get that idea behind it. I have cord carpet on entire floor which is still in perfect condition, and i don't want to remove it. So, I just brought a fluffy carpet for second layer and it's working for me. You can apply carpet protection film in between if you want.

    Radiant barriers need a direct air cavity adjacent to them. Once covered, this is not achieved
    The air cavity provides the performance. Do not expect this to be equivalent to insulation within your floor.

      I was going to ask the same question. You need air cavity next to the aluminum reflective surface. There are many products for applying under the heated floor. But i guess it's mostly marketing.
      Reflective insulation works best for attics or roof spaces

    Hi, if installing this on the concrete ground floor as insulation, do you still need to install underlay for laminate flooring? What underlay would be suitable with 12mm laminate planks?

  • @bungle555
    @bungle555 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Radiant barriers need to face an air space in order to work. When you sandwich foil between two surfaces (subfloor & underlayment), it becomes a conductor, not an insulator. All this will do is conduct heat from the interior of the room through the carpet & underlayment into the subfloor.

    • @maclindsay7183

      So, if the foil is insulated on both sides (it looked as if there was some insulation in this stuff) with something like foam, does that solve the problem, since the insulation is really a network of air cavities. Furthermore, suppose the foil were on the bottom? Wouldn't that allow it to reflect some of infrared radiation that got through the insulation back up into the room? Even if the foil were as cold as the basement or crawlspace below, I'd expect its reflective capacity to work.

    • @jordanh9520
      @jordanh9520 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This. Why do so many people not get it?? "Radiant heat" is infrared light, if there's no space, there isn't any radiant heat to reflect.
