Im a Liverpool fan but if I remember. This guy basically was playing fantasy football with Leeds United and latterly over spent thinking they be in the champions league every year so they took a gamble. A gambe that ruined Leeds got them losing all there best players and got them down the leaugez for so long. If it wasn't for that ownership. Leeds could of been in the Prem since. As I understand it it was like they didn't care about hitting a wall money wise. They had some of the best players in the country. And anyone looking to own club Dont do whst they did Ruined alot of fans of Leeds United and they were a big team at the time doing very well in the league and Europe. As a Liverpool fan I often think what a shame what Happened there. Now I don't know the full details only this guy said he got the blame. I mean who else would they blame he was the one squandering the purse the year before. I was only about 16 at the time and I'm 43 now.n Leeds were robbed of premier football because of greedy people not looking out for there best interest
This is spot on mate, there is so much more that he did wrong though. Directors payments, company car allowances, transfer payment and wage structures, player sales and fees accepted were all bad decisions.
He's actually dillusional. When he left we were over 100m in debt. We'd already sold Woodgate, Rio, Fowler, Keane and Bowyer. The only assets remaining were Smith, Viduka and Kewell, who were not 100m worth of players in that market. I think Leeds fans might be more forgiving if he took any kind of responsibility or showed any kind of remorse. He also failed to acknowledge that he almost ruined Barnsley, Cardiff and Plymouth after he left Leeds. He's also banned from being a Chairman having diverted company money into his own personal accounts.
He actually loved the club and was doing great things regarding Chris and Kev. It's just he was clueless financially he should of kept Oleary , we were the first ever club to be done with FFP really.
He nearly destroyed the club outright, and the effects of his tenure still hurt Leeds to this day because of how long it caused them to be outside the premier league when the money flowed in. It’s almost impossible to catch back up. So much of the infrastructure at the club had no investment for over a decade as it was essentially existing “pay cheque to pay cheque”, so there were no foundations in place for PL football. You can’t condone abuse, but the anger is understandable as he permanently ruined the fortunes of the club.
I'm 55 years old Peter. Your incompetence and conceit - which you still barely acknowledge - set this club back a generation. I remember it all and taking credit for promotion and the title in '90 and '92 is an unforgivable slur on the memories of the people who gambled everything for that success. You'll never be welcome, and never forgiven.
Cope hard, Peter, cope hard. Industrial scale gaslighting to take credit for Wilko and Fotherby's work. And in no way did he reveal the extent of the financial overeach to the fans, told us everything would be fine. Neither does he mention the fact that we couldn't sell players when we needed to due to the grossly overinflated contracts he dished out to them.
I'm 62 and ridsdale gave me the dream of travelling Europe to watch Leeds in the eufa cup and. Champions league. Milan, Barcelona, Madrid, etc I will treasure those memories reaching the semi final in Valencia. I was 24 years younger then. What happened after was a tragedy.
"I wasn't seeking publicity" but here he is spouting his same old rubbish and refusing to properly acknowledge just how much he was to blame. This man is despicable.
I’m 42 Peter and I remember!! The most untrustworthy man in football, disgrace that he’s permitted to air a one sided, rose tinted glasses view of what happened.
Delusional, out of touch and full of bluster. If you didn’t know anything about him you would think he is a considerate, systematic football administrator. Not only did he destroy Leeds has wrecked at least 4 other clubs, he was also banned from being a director of any company as he had financial irregularities posted. He’s a conman. The end.
Oh noooo talksport have opened a can of woke worms...letting the man explain in his own views without them being scrutinised. We EXPECT BETTER TALKSPORT
People forget the horrors he had to deal with in Turkey. Chris & Kev's families can't say enough kind things about how he helped them and dealt with the whole situation.
From memory I believe Leeds agreed to pay players wages that were sold to PL clubs whilst trying to survive in Champ / league 1, with clubs knowing they needed the money, absolutely can't believe the short terms gains of Champ League football for 16 years of pure circus acts after, even the Italian players having a fag break whilst training under Cellino, the Steve Evans Sombrero era, bring your pack lunch and empty the pool and ice baths to save money in the championship era, Hockaday giving the reigns after a chance costa coffee. I sincerely hope not other club goes through it! still recovering to this day to become a steady top team!
First of all as a fan base we don’t condone abusing him and his family, but he is the man to blame for the financial melt down he would be better just saying “I got it wrong and I’m soo sorry” than tip toeing around the subject it feels like the Hokey Cokey in out in out, yes he left x amount of internationals but he knows full well that’s a lazy excuse because of the wage bill he left behind Leeds had to cut their cloth, as for success he talks about what planet is he on there wasn’t any because Leeds didn’t win a trophy
It's unbelievable how arrogant he comes across. He was in charge, he made key decisions that affected the club. Later in life hew as caught directing club payments into his own bank account and was disqualified from being a director for 8 years. Preston fans dislike him too because of his actions.
How much did you offer Danny Mills ? He is on record as saying he would have played for half the price to what was offered him and couldn't believe what you put on the table and snapped it up. Well who wouldn't eh ? You miss managed the club mate, pure n simple.
Don't condone the abuse but PR as chairman oversaw a period of financial excess and a level of debt that his board imposed which the club could not afford. That and the subsequent fire sale of players led directly to the relegation in 2004 and subsequent period of huge instability at the club. Dominic Matteo's book tells the truth of just what it was like at the time. Just to add, Leeds won nothing at the time.
Football transcends business. It’s a working man’s sport. This man treated Leeds as a business and failed at running it as a business, thinking fans don’t matter. Well, as he’s discovered doing this has consequences. I’m not saying the abuse he gets is a good thing, it’s not but once passions run high, people do dumb things. Football should be a fans first affair, ignore this at your peril.
No one deserves to be threatened when it comes to any sport! Unfortunately he was the chairman so all the blame falls down to him he bought player's we didn't need and gave them ridiculous wages, but he is right that the squad we had at the time should never have been relegated so thats down to the players and the manager's we had. But what really bothers me is them going on about success what did we win? Nothing! Dont get me wrong 2 european semi finals was great and i got to go to some of the games and enjoyed the ride but we didn't win anything and in the end it was our downfall!
Precisely my point. We won eff all. Another manager with more balls than DOL would have achieved wonders with that brilliant squad. Ultimately it was PR losing the financial plot and DOL failing to manage effectively on the field ... writing a stupid book, going on golfing outings and leaving Brian Kidd and others in charge in his absence ...
It was a total screw up sacking Dave O'Leary. Risdales biggest error. O'Leary was doing fine. Leeds were still competing and doing ok. A couple of bad results and he's gone.
You were driving the bus, no good saying 'well I wasn't there when it went into meltdown', you lit the match, threw it into the petrol tank and walked away before it blew up. At least take the responsibility instead of palming it off. Anyone with a small amount of business knowledge knows leveraging that amount of money on a gamble is not a sustainable plan, slow and steady, and things could have been oh so different for our club. Then again, I ask myself, would I change it?? Probably not, it's been one hell of a ride.
I don't condone violence towards him, but he wrecked us. His gambling on success nearly drove us under. He hasn't got one shred of regret in him, and for that, he can go and do one. I wouldn't have said advocate violence.towards him, but nearly do we need to be civil ti the man.
He enjoyed being front & centre when the club was high....and so has to take the majority of the blame when it went sour. And to suggest the finances were not in dire straights when he left..is absurd in the extreme. Mr Teflon he aint.
It was living the dream , taking risks, what happened we can't change, everybody remembers the collapse, no1 remembers how you looked after the injured in Istanbul by paying for blood transfusions..
Leeds semi finalist uefa cup now europa league and uefa champions league semi finals and finished top 5 in 5 season under Peter Ridsdale at least do better some chairman at elland road Ken bates massimo cellio at the club silverware spend big money win trophy with no silverware the chairman cost him dear and sell all the top players between 2002 to 2004 leeds only be back in the Premier league 3 seasons there haven't played in europe since over 20 years

Hear hear
As a Leeds fan mate, that’s a very good break down 👍🏻
Spot on, pal. Leeds fan.
@@Teos123 Also over paying for Seth Johnston from Derby, Whata donkey that player was.
"We were ok when I left" the foundations were already crumbling under you, arrogant and deflecting blame to the end

im a leeds fan and you ruined the club for decades ! poor mismanagement of funds ! me for one will never forgive you !
He actually loved the club and was doing great things regarding Chris and Kev. It's just he was clueless financially he should of kept Oleary , we were the first ever club to be done with FFP really.
Nearly destroyed the club, by all accounts.
He was totally incompentent spending money left right and centre Leeds did not have.

Get him off radio and every other platform
What an absolute damn bar stard. Nearly killed Leeds Utd and still he is allowed in football?! One of the worst people in football, ever.
Classic narcissist behaviour. Playing victim is hilarious.

He almost bankrupt the club and still wants sympathy. Pathetic. Good riddance

I shall never forgive him for the heartache he caused to thousands of us, young and old, far and wide.
"I wasn't seeking publicity" but here he is spouting his same old rubbish and refusing to properly acknowledge just how much he was to blame. This man is despicable.
Does he answer his own questions.. yes. Is he talking rubbish... yes
I’m 42 Peter and I remember!! The most untrustworthy man in football, disgrace that he’s permitted to air a one sided, rose tinted glasses view of what happened.
Had they kept George Graham as manager they would have had a much better outcome
Unfortunately George wanted to return down south and took the Spurs job.
@adam160908 indeed. A massive whatif moment.
Delusional, out of touch and full of bluster.

Conman, narcissist.
What I gathered from this video is that he feels very guilty and this has played on his conscience a lot over the years.
Oh noooo talksport have opened a can of woke worms...letting the man explain in his own views without them being scrutinised. We EXPECT BETTER TALKSPORT
He's got the temerity to come out after all these years like a rat hiding in a sewer, trying to clear his name and act like a fragrant flower.
People forget the horrors he had to deal with in Turkey. Chris & Kev's families can't say enough kind things about how he helped them and dealt with the whole situation.

This is the definition of delusional
Said we made money on rio did he forget we had to pay west ham out of the money we made
They were buying rubbish players: Michael Duberry, Jason Wilcox, Seth Johnson, a washed out David Batty, a washed out Robbie Fowler and others.
Two words for you Peter………..Seth Johnson
So arrogant
It's unbelievable how arrogant he comes across.
He was in charge, he made key decisions that affected the club.
Later in life hew as caught directing club payments into his own bank account and was disqualified from being a director for 8 years.
Preston fans dislike him too because of his actions.
No accountability here!

He spent thousands a month on his fish aquarium.
We lived the dream with him and it all went totally wrong. Not all his fault.

Giving massive contracts to players
don't even know who he is lol
Cheers Jeff lol
He lived the dream
But we lived the dream!... League 1
Shocking to here the abuse Peter and his family have received over the years!
Even more shocking is the the heartbreak and pain that thousands of fans the world over lived through in the years that followed.
Leeds semi finalist uefa cup now europa league and uefa champions league semi finals and finished top 5 in 5 season under Peter Ridsdale at least do better some chairman at elland road Ken bates massimo cellio at the club silverware spend big money win trophy with no silverware the chairman cost him dear and sell all the top players between 2002 to 2004 leeds only be back in the Premier league 3 seasons there haven't played in europe since over 20 years
???
He doesn't deserve a job in football after what he did to Leeds.
Why 😂
🤌💦
Aw boo hoo.
