Thank you so much. I will be traveling to Madrid in a few days…I know this station but I haven’t been there in 5 years…bought my train ticket on line just to make sure I have a reservation.
Most people remember “Atocha” as ground zero for “11-M” but I have always seen it as the station that connects RENFE to the local municipality of greater Madrid. Not quite as feast as the French High Speed rail trains “SNF” but a true “ beast” in terms of sustainability and travel=]. I donated my painting of “la mujer torreadora “ to the people of Madrid when I was there in 2008 to conmemora my acknowledgment of the date and loss of lives. As Leonard Cohen would say, “forget your perfect offering.”
Will be travelling to Madrid in January and wanted to know if you have to get your luggage checked before getting to the platform for departing from Madrid to Barcelona?? Any informations will be greatly appreciated.
In my experience, I have always carried my luggage with me (I have travelled with 2 large suitcases before and just put them in the storage racks on the train). I have not looked into checking luggage before boarding the train. However, if there is an option to check your luggage, there are many ticket counters just pasted the security check point that would be able to help. Thanks for your question.
Where could I buy ticket online? I want to book ticket from madrid to valencia. Tried renfe site but diclined my credit and debit card. Do you have any reliable sites from where I can buy? Thanks
Hi @Maria Maria I used the renfe site for my purchases. I tried to use my American Express and that didn't work so I defaulted to my Chase Saphire Visa card. It seems that one works. I did just look up tickets from Madrid to Valencia and saw several options. Are you arriving to madrid a day or two before you take the train to Valencia? You can always purchase the ticket at the automated machine or at the ticket counter at the train station. If your card doesn't work there you can take Euros out of the ATM and pay with cash. What country are you coming from?
Thank you for the response. We’re coming from Italy. We’ll be in madrid on the 19 of august and go to valencia on 21. I tried purchasing again but didn’t work again. They said that It may cost me more if I’ll buy at the station.
@@MariaMaria-ws2jf you’re welcome! I’m sorry the system is having trouble processing your payment. I’ve always used these renfe website for my tickets to madrid and the south of Spain. Maybe it has some sort of glitch they will get sorted out. Another site I have used before is called Omio. It also sells the train tickets, but most of my experience has been with buying through renfe. I did notice that the kiosk prices for train tickets appeared to be similar to the online prices (I’m a bargain shopper, so I always look for the best deals). I have bought train tickets from the customer service counter before and I feel like it may have been a little more expensive. I hope you are able to get it sorted out. Thank you for watching my video and for your comments and questions! I sincerely appreciate it!
@@thespaingibraltarchannel I was researching to buy a ticket from the renfe website for my May 2023 trip and found out that they don't take a lot of credit cards from North America, as many have tried and failed. I don't know why this is. It seems they will take PayPal and I believe ApplePay. But you can also try using Omio and RailEurope, I think they will accept all credit cards.
@@dwainstromquist9116 Great information to know! I've run into the use of my cards from the US quite frequently. Amex is rarely taken, Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted, but sometimes on the websites those don't even work. So it's great info to know that PayPal and Applepay may both work.

We bought ours online as well to keep the journey streamlined. The train station is pretty easy. Just be there early so you don’t miss your train.
Excellent information!
Glad it was helpful!
