I am a highschool student. I’m in two minds between civil engineering and environmental. If I chose civil I would definitely have it something to do with the environment, as it peaks my interest. Do you have any recommendations?

Both programs give you the option of taking technical electives in fourth year. So in Civil Engineering there are some environmental based courses and in Environmental Engineering there are Civil Engineering technical electives. You can find more information about the technical electives offered by Civil Engineering here:
      civil.ubc.ca/undergraduate/program-guide/fourth-year-technical-electives/
And you can find more information about the technical electives offered by Environmental Engineering here:
      environmental.engineering.ubc.ca/technical-electives/
Also, Environmental Engineering is a program offered jointly by Chemical and Biological Engineering and Civil Engineering, meaning that much of the foundation of the Environmental Engineering program will be built on Civil topics.

Hello, Thank you for your interest in UBC's Environmental Engineering Program. Every engineering undergraduate at UBC spends their first year in an undeclared foundational year of engineering, after which students can specialize and select environmental engineering as their focus area. For more information on the courses offered/curriculum in environmental engineering (beginning in second year) follow this link: environmental.engineering.ubc.ca/current-students/

UBC's Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering will support students on a path to becoming a Professional Engineer. Technology degrees, like the Master's of Technology offered by some schools, will lead to careers in the same field, but will not allow students to pursue the career of Professional Engineer. You can learn more about the programs we offer here: engineering.ubc.ca/programs/undergraduate
