How to... control the NDLR and Digitone using MIDI tracks

  • In this video I show how to use the MIDI sequencer on the Elektron Digitone to control chord changes on the Conductive Labs NDLR, while NDLR in turn sends MIDI note data to the Digitone. And if that's not enough, the MIDI LFOs on the Digitone are modulating the pad and motifs on the NDLR to create a wild dynamic sound!
Here is my track which led to me making this video: • NDLR and Elektron Digi...

Brilliantly done, thank you for putting this together. Lots to learn! My NDLR is on order and I have a Digitone to try this with. I really cannot wait!

Great! Very helpful indeed. My NDLR arrived yesterday so can’t wait to hook it up to the Digitone for some endless noodling fun.

Thank you for sharing such a valuable guide. I'm in and out of hospital for various amounts of time, and this will be my default 'sane man' setup. ♥️

Thanx a bunch Dad ! We cant wait to get the Noodler - i got the second last , in the september batch :-O - and both my takt and tone are waiting eagerly to get under the "NDLR-whip" ,- :-)

Thanks for the tip on quantization. Was wondering what was causing the odd delay. More NDLR Samples fun for me today.

great idea. was hoping to do a similar thing with the squarp pyramid and daryl from conductive told me to watch this video to get an idea of how. thanks from a fellow dub!

New Jackson Did you get it to work with the Pyramid? Curious what you think of it, I had the Pyramid on my shortlist for a while but got the Deluge in the end

@@SynthDad it’s fun, but the keyboard adds another layer especially as far as MIDI goes.

Hi i have just bought a ndlr looking for an all in one synth. Would youv recommend the digitone...for bass, pads, leads etc? Does it have microtuning? Is it easy to switch between midi tracks and tweek settings as they are being sequenced by ndlr? Thanks

The Digitone is an FM synth, and that means it has a very specific sound and approach to sound design. Elektron have made it very easy to use, but FM synthesis is still very different from standard synths. You'll need to listen to videos on the Digitone to see if you like its tone - it can be harsh, metallic, industrial, but it can do deeper lush sounds.
If I was buying a new Elektron synth I'd get the Syntakt. A very powerful device with both drum and other synth engines in it. Well worth researching.

Really nice - thank you. Out of interest, do you use logic audio...I recently got a NDLR and I am trying to make it work with the soft synths in logic audio, i load 4 soft synths, each set to a different midi channel but when i try to use the NDLR, all of the midi info for pad, drone, motif 1+2 is played by each soft synth...i cant figure out out how to send the midi info for drone, pad, motif 1+2 to each soft synth - any thoughts or ideas where i can find a solution for this?

Good question - that should work fine if you set the MIDI channels in the settings page in the NDLR so each part plays on a different channel. I'm not an expert on Logic though - how are you configuring the MIDI channel for each soft synth?

@@SynthDad thanks for the reply - yep, i think i am setting the midi channels correctly on the NDLR - i believe the problem is most likely to do with how i have things configured in logic audio, that being said, i have 4 soft synths loaded in logic, each one set to the same corresponded midi channel as the NDLR. However, the out put from all midi channels (motif 1,2, PAD and drone) plays on each soft synth. I have managed to set things up with soft synths in reaper ( 4 tracks, each with a soft synth that corresponds to the midi channel on NDLR) and it works as expected. I just cant get it to work in logic for some reason

Do you like the Digitone with NDLR or did you prefer the Blofeld? I ask because I'm torn between the two. I already have a Digitakt so it would fit the flow so to speak.

Between the two I really like the Digitone. I find it an inspiring synth to work with. It has a very unique sound but I find it easy to tweak. It pairs really well with the Digitakt.

Also sorry does digitone have four separate outputs for each track?

    • @SynthDad
      @SynthDad  ปีที่แล้ว

No Digitone only has a stereo out. Digitone Keys has separate outs for each track
