- I got scammed in Saigon, Vietnam by this old Vietnamese lady while looking for a manicure. In this video I will show you what happens when you put too much trust into people while in Vietnam. Unfortunately, scams in Vietnam happen a lot and I was scammed a few times while in the city of Ho Chi Minh. However, this is the only one I caught on camera and I will be sharing it with you today!

See you there ❤!
I must say that you are a brave woman to trust a street vendor with your manicure. I doubt that she cleans, let alone sanitize her equipment. Also with a face and attitude like that I would definitely have walked past her. She wasn't even friendly or nice, and didn't deserve the extra 300. I would have demanded the change. Try and have small bills with you so you can control how much you give not the other way around. Take care and enjoy your journey.
Not safe to manicure on the street.
The equipment is not up to standard and is dirty and has no quality and the price goes against it.
I’m sorry to see you got scammed. Lately, I’ve seen a lot of scams happening to tourists in Ho Chi Ming city on TH-cam. Not sure some local people became desperate after covid pandemic. Regardless, I hope local government officials would do something about it.
This is a huge problem that tourists do not want to go to Vietnam. Because of being cheated out of money from foreign tourists This is the reason I choose to go to Thailand every time. And very impressive with Thai people. Friendly prices and everyone smiling. There are many places to visit. and reasonable price

I feel you have purity of heart and you are a beautiful girl
You speak English beautifully please don't stop , love your accent , I am deeply sorry you got scammed
I visited Vietnam 5 times, most recently 2 week ago. No matter how many times I told myself to be carefully of scam, I always got scammed one or two times each travel.
Scammers always have ways to trick you. I got scammed even by my relatives.
I’m sure the group of 4 that randomly stopped by and was surrounding her waiting for the girl to “manicure her own nails”. Was all pretty sketch the way they were. At 22:49 the old lady looks back as if she was nervous as well. Be safe Gladys not everyone that appears nice is always nice
Aawww this was so sad to see 😞 Thankyou for sharing and your English is amazing! Don’t think otherwise 😊 x
ii love it. your ending comments are absolutely correct. thanks for the content. Travel on!!
Hello, Gladys your English is perfectly fine and I love watching your videos and Chris’s videos keep up the good work
When she received the money,
She didn't seem to change the money at all.
Scammed for sure.
I can related how you feel. It’s not about the money but the principal. I would ask for the change back and give to someone who is more deserving and more honest.
Awww Gladys so sorry you felt very disappointed by this experience. You have a good heart and I know you wanted to help someone like her who probably has been struggling. But I think there was some miscommunication and the language barrier probably didn’t help either. But you’re right it’s a learning experience.
Nowhere is as good as Thailand. Stay safe in Thailand, don't be deceived
Scams exist in every country. But Vietnam is number one Even I was scammed in Ho Chi Minh. Shoe repairer
i think so
Me too !
me too.
To avoid a scam like this, you should look for a nail salon or a convenient store if you want to buy something. You pay a premium price for an item but it would not be a scam. For other stuffs, ask your hotel hostess. I would avoid all street vendors especially the ones who are mobile.
🙏🏽 for the video nonetheless and it will prepare others to definitely have exact price for vendor in order for this not to happen by dishonesty or misunderstanding. Thx for your example of good and positivity 👏🏽
i liked going to that park to chill in the shade and have lunch but i hated the guys that kept pestering me for a shoe shine on my running shoes. they'd try for half n hour even after saying no 30 times id sit with my feet under the bench and they'd still try clean them. even just cleaning the white on the soles of 1 shoe because i gave up sitting like that they'd demand money but no way i gave any because they'd just annoy me and ruin my day
as a truviet i'd like thank you up front & we know you know way in advance what to expect but in your good heart you go ahead anyway to helping out...and that's priceless! NYC
🙏🏻♥️thanks so much for your comment!
I have watched a lot of videos that not all poor people will scam you but there are some out there. The girl did ask the lady 20k or 200k, she said 200k so the girl punched in 200k to show you. It's sad that you want to help out the poor but turned out in a bad way. You should have asked for the chance. I didn't understand why you walked away after giving money to the lady when you were expected for the changes. By the way, I don't recommend doing this on the street because you don't really know if all the tools get sanitize, Did you see that other guys walked by and borrowed her tools to do their nails? Anyway, be safe to travel and have fun. Make sure you know the price. Another thing at Ben Thanh Market, of course they have to sell higher than from outside because the space rental there is so expensive. You can negotiate but they won't sell the same price as outside if they can't cover their rental cost. Don't be surprise, there are scam in USA too if you 're shopping in New York....lol.....
Good point on personal hygiene. Personally, I wouldn't let anyone put any instruments on my body without seeing them in boiling water or sterilized in some way first, because the probability of infection is real. Tiktok can be dangerous and make people ignore conventional wisdom in distorted view for the sake of popularity. Hospitals in Commie Vietnam don't even have beds for ordinary and poor patients who have to sleep on concrete floors in the corridors, unfortunately. By the way, it's "changes" not "chance".
Your way of speeking is too good i like it
You so kindness for old women. everywhere
Just be careful! A lot scams out there. Don’t trust anyone.
Those Blue Nail Polish are beautiful. Looking great.
The woman lied you when she got you a 500k bill. I was shocked after receiving the bill from you but she didnt give you the change. Vietnamese people ll get urgly with foreign tourists. I think the police force should arrest the woman and punish her aggressively. As Vietnamese people i am so sorry to you. Almostly Vietnamese people are good, they always help strangers, especially foreigners. Wat a bity with your bad experience. Hope you have a good trip and forget the bad situation. Love you from Viet Nam.
as a vietnamese nail professional in the USA, let me apologize. we charge 15 usd. you paid about 22 usd.
so what are u doing in USA?? go to Vietnam and u will earn more 😂🤣🤣
Hi, your content is amazing please let me know Vietnam is safe for Indians solo travelers and is there any kind of a scam in Vietnam.

I apologize on behalf of the Vietnamese people for the incident you have had in our country, I feel ashamed and embarrassed about this, I hope you don't take it to heart because it's one of those things. There are a few such people, because of their livelihood, they are ready to approach and find a way to make the most money for foreign tourists, the advice for you is to exchange change for ready-made change when traveling. experience such kind of street service, and you should bargain for the best price, finally fix the price then give the right value for the service, Thank you for visiting our country, and wish you good health and many interesting discoveries about Vietnam
❤❤❤ love vietnam
You should have asked for the change. Either she did it intentionally, or maybe she thought the extra money was the tip. It is more like she did it intentionally. I am Vietnamese, and I was scammed a few times when I was there. One time at Le Duyen 4 Salon, and another time was in a massage spa. My family (4 people) went to Le Duyen 4, but only 3 of us had a haircut. After the haircut and shampoo, we paid close to 4 millions (VND). They demanded 100% tip. At the massage spa, I gave the money to the masseuse after the session, when I was walking out, the owner asked me to pay. I told her that I gave the money to the masseuse already, but she claimed that was the tip. I didn't want trouble, so I paid again. Lessons learned. Traveling will make someone wiser :)
Wow. That is terrible. Yeah as a tourist, I wouldn’t want to cause trouble either. Is there a tourism branch of the government to report the business or at least a review on the business or something might help future tourists.
@@mikewhocheeseharry5292 I am not sure myself.
That Vietnamese woman doesn't look like an honest person. She was greedy and tried to exploit tourists for money. There are many people like that in VN and also in other countries. The 8 usd manicure is expensive for that kind of service in VN. Gladys didn't have to agree when they told her that price. I found Gladys is a bit naive for some people travelling the world and making money on YT. I felt sorry for Gladys for what happened to her, but otoh, I also think she should have educated herself better/ done some research when travelling around to some other countries, knowing the possible things that could happen there. I agree with you that Gladys should have asked for the change. That woman was dishonest, but Gladys was also at fault for not standing up for her rights, being so passive, then blamed people when things go wrong.
I feel sorry for your bad experiences. But I also think, as a Vietnamese, you could make better choices when it comes to choosing services in VN. I came to visit VN several times, and never had any absurd troubles like you did. If you speak Vietnamese, always ask about the prices in advance, and about the tip too. Pay for the massage, haircut, manicure... at the counters, then go back to give the service person tips afterward. That was what I did, and I 've never had any problem. When I saw something wasn't as I expected, I stopped that right away.
For the haircut/ shampoo, 100% tip is unacceptable, you don't have to pay for that. If they insist of pressing you on that issue, let them know you would call " công an" to have them solve the problem, then do that. The way you let them got away with their scams, not only affect you, but also set the precedent that encourage those dishonest people keep going with their scams on others.
Sorry to hear that you got scammed.
Thank for the video it was fun watching it and interesting and kinda funny 😁 love 💕 it
Thank you for watching it! ♥️😎
Your English isn't that bad. Much better than my Spanish. 😊
Your english is fine . And you are funny and cute with people. Im sorry you may feel you got scammed.
You speak good English. Love your videos. The park is beautiful.
Fc.
I am sorry for what happened. Please use only bills in low denominations to avoid future scams or potential miscommunication from vendors.
How sad. I hurt for you that we get taking like that. I'm sorry. Had that been a different person things could have gone bad for her.
I understand what she say She’s not good person she said with the girl that she just do clearly for people in vietnam while the opposite was true with you
Oh nooo 😢so sorry to see that happened to you
You are too trusting. Also, cannot believe you chanced this due to hygienic conditions, or I should say lack of them.
You learned your lesson. Try to pay exactly, no big notes as they think you tip them. Dont go back to her tomorrow. She does not look honest
You should have spoken up and ask for your change. You didn't do that. She might think the change is for tip. In a way it's not a scam. It's great that a lot of tourists visiting Vietnam and help out the local economy but at the same time it's pretty cheap to visit Vietnam to have a good time, good food. My suggestion for you is to be caution and careful everywhere you go to avoid these sort of things and if you got scammed you should report to local authorities so that they can take care it and prevent from happening again.
Stop lying. This woman didn’t think she was tipping her more than the full price of the service. A 300,000 dong tip on a 200,000 dong manicure? Gtfoh
I am sorry you experienced this unfortunate event. I am both Vietnamese and Cambodian by blood and born and raised in south vietnam. But I can say Cambodian are more honest and friendly people when it come to street vendors business. Enjoy your time in Vietnam and be careful now that’s you know. Love to you.
The way of life in Vn.Scams exist from the top to the bottom of social.
Do you know if she sanitizes her tools?
As a Vietnamese, I apologize for this. But things like this will soon be handled by the Vietnamese government to clean up the tourism environment in Vietnam
LOL the utterly corrupt Vietnamese Commie regime has been behind much bigger scams than this, including the recent Việt Á scandal that killed 50-100K Vietnamese citizens.
They need to cleanup the dirty street food, nobody is using gloves when they sell stuff on the street, and the food sit outside where the flies can get to it, not to mention no refrigeration for the meat, and the motorbike stir up dirt that will fly into all and everything there, this is the reason why the west said asia is dirty af, clean up that shit over there.

You are doing great in English and your videos 👍🏾
I'm very scared of street vendors in Saigon's district 1. If you want to use any service, please go to the store
Your English is perfect Miss World, keep going and your TH-cam is 5 🤩
I don't think the lady in blue knows English. She's telling the lady in the pink that three (in english) means "hai" in vietnamese (which is two). She's asking the lady in pink to get her a small bottle in the fourth minute. I don't have time to watch the rest of this video. It's 2022, try use a translating app next time.
How brave of you Gladys 😂😮
You should have asked for the change, she assumed you tip her the rest by not saying anything.
Lies
Yes very bad she lie
To have a manucure in this condition ?? For fun or to save money ?? 😮😮😮
You're doing very well with your English, better than most I would be concerned about cleanliness of her tools
I feel very sympathetic to you. Cheating others like that would mean ruining their tourism.
I think they were planning the scam. For experienced travellers most of you all fall into scams so easily. Thanks for sharing.
Curious why you don’t use google translate? Would be so nice to chat to her! I looked up em and she’s saying that is her younger sister.
I would have never let her touch me with those filthy old instruments. I hope that you did not get any type of infection.😮
Never ever buy or get any service from street vendors . Most of them are scammers . Go to legit stores or shops where all the prices are posted on the walls or at the entrance
Sao bạn biết tất cả người bán hàng rong đều lừa đảo?
@@Onestorycm I didn`t say All but Most of street vendors .... Because I was myself scammed many times by those dishonest people , specially in big cities like Saigon and Hanoi . So to be on the safe side , I recommend the foreign tourists to go only to legit stores to avoid scams . Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, most of them really don't know how to speak or understand English, even if it's basic. So it's hard to communicate with them.. unlike in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, English is a second language .
In Vietnam have a lot of liars Cambodia lost half of land because of Vietnam please be careful
mate, cambodia is the same. cambodians and vietnamese are pretty similar. we think we are different but once you live in both countries you realise we have similar characteristics. maybe the vietnamese are a tiny bit more money hungry and tendency to be jealous but other than that very close
Combodian invaded and rope land of many tribe to make big Khmer empire in the old day. And then cannot keep strong enought to control those tribe and land together as a joint under the so called Khmer empire. You and your Khmer just remember. It's Thai, firstly not in their land now but come from south west china down to south. And you and Khmer should deeply remember, in hundreds of years, if not with the help of vietnamese, the whole socalled Cambodia now must had been Thai teritory and Cambodian now turn out to be a tribe of Thailand. Cambodia must had disappeared and no exist nowaday OK. ?
It is Vietnamese to save Cambodia and make it exist by its name today instead of a province of Thailand. Just like those Laos people in the north east provinces of Thailand now.
@@mired5301 false it was the french that saved cambodia. if it wasn't for the french half would be vietnam and half would be thailand
@@cambodianpleasuresquad1753 haha, the west half of Cambodia already Thailand teritory guy. And the east half is still remain Cambodia. It is Vietnam king to keep Cambodia land and stop Thai people to separate it from Vietnam border guy. And now, you should make it out that: hundreds of years and uptonow, those Chinese from south of china have been caming to seaside area of Cambodia and making it their own land, push away any campodian, keep bordering vietnamese. If still, maybe again, with those Chinese casino in Sihanuc ville and around Cambodia will have a change to dis appear again before u guy looking over to Vietnam all the time. U stupid man.
Street vendors in Vietnam thought we the tourist don't know. We just don't care and feel sorry for them.
According to my own opinion , during the past few years before Covid 19 pandemic , I had several business trips there . I would say , that kind of things were seldom happen especial on the streets of Vietnam.
You are the silly one for letting her get away with it, you gave her a opening and of course she is going to take it. It must be your first time to Vietnam. Live and learn 😊
That was sad! Hate it! It makes Vietnamese look very very bad. That price was way too high for street manicure.
So i think 4 peoples is scam too, they work with the team but you on cam life that why they're don't do something because you in recording film so sad to me to see something like this so you very kind n brave to use service like this it to dirty low quality hygiene i m good luck when i was there to travel in HCMC Vietnam for my personal i like Vietnamese n i hope they must have to learn more from tourist n upgrade level service mine
She’s her sister. The lady that does your nails is older sister the other gal is younger. I’m so sorry she’s not an honest person!!!!
I also see that most bloggers never has change or smaller Bill's to pay for simple cheaper tasks/travel or items.
Let talk about what kind scam happen in your country. And how safe is your country?
This always happen when local Vietnamese know English.
I recommend you that just act normal, don't be so nice to them. When they see the foreigners as they see the meet on the table, lol... They thought you are rich.
Don't trust anyone. You trust her and she deceives you very quickly. Trust must be mutual.
You should know this part of this country in the future. So sorry
This is not a scam. You should use google translate to communicate to her. She thought you tipped her for 500k. If you want the change, you need to talk to her by Vietnamese (use google translate) .

To be honest, I'm confused by your reaction. Why didn't you ask for change? You just thanked her and left. She probably assumed you were very generous. I think you could have signaled that you were expecting change and she would have given it to you. Had she refused, then it would be considered a scam.
You are just trying to save face for your country. She was overcharging anyway and she knew what she was doing
Beautiful place but people are not trustworthy.
Did you pay $8 for and outside manicure? Wow that’s expensive! In Bangkok in a shopping mall w/AC they charged $5-$7 and in Chiangmai it’s even cheaper. In Cambodia in PP they charge $3 for indoor manicure last time I went. I wouldn’t do outside you can get tetanus

you can go to the police to sue her for increasing service rates to tourists and additionally for fraud. The police will definitely take care of this, and in her conversation with the orange-robed assistant, she mentioned that you are not Vietnamese, she will do it quickly.
