    No Chris! Your mission was accomplished so well when you got more warm welcome than you want. Fixing for free (the frame) and bike washing for free and tons of help and advice.
    Mission accomplished in term of connecting people bro 👍
    Well done!

    Good for the man, I think you have made his day.
    In Vietnam (and maybe everywhere in the world) it is rare to receive present from strangers, so I think the repair man just don't know how to react and turn out to be a very cute moment you got there :))
    Vietnam idiom have a saying "Của cho không bằng cách cho", which means "The way you give the presents will step up the value of the present".
    Maybe next time you can write a letter explaining the reason you give the present, and give him the letter together with picture. Words explains more than spontaneous conversation I think.

    The two guys at the bike repair shop really liked it. You were so nervous, you didn’t notice that they had a good reaction. They washed your bike for free because they considered you as a friend now. They don’t just do free things for any stranger that drives up to the shop and asks for something.

    Hey Chris, the video is cute. We Vietnamese are often shy and awkward when strangers suddenly give us gifts, which is not a norm in our hustle lives. Most people may not know how to react in those cases but trust me, we all feel appreciated and joyful from the bottom of our hearts. From an outsider’s perspective, I think you made their days.
    Great content as usual!

    That was wonderful Chris you obviously made their day giving them those framed pictures/photos as they didnt charge you that took alot of courage and you put a smile on their faces they probably feel like famous on youtube now. I hope they get more business because of it too :) It s healthy to step out of our comfort zones as we discover new things about ourselves that we didn't beforehand, yes stepping in the unknown can bring anxiety but also excitement and adventure. The main thing is you had fun and so does everyone else!

  • @ambereyes5393
    @ambereyes5393 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Chris it's the thought that counts, as they say. You can be assured that you made their day, maybe their entire year. They ended up on TH-cam. You made them local celebrities for a moment. You brightened their day and it's apparent to me that that was your intention. You obviously want to be a film maker who aspires to make films that are captivating and content that draws the viewer into your creation. I'd say that you succeeded. I too felt a twinge of awkwardness in the scene and isn't that what they say is "Getting the msg across"? It was most obvious to me your intent was to light up someone else's day with a humorous act. You have nothing to apologize for. I know you brought much joy to all. You need to let some time go by. View this a few years from now and I guarantee it will bring a smile to your face as that is how awkward situations mature with time, they become mostly laughable events. I really like your work.

    Chris, if this is your biggest mistake after living in Vietnam for 3 years I am envious because I have lived in Vietnam for nearly 2 years (currently living in Hanoi) and I have had some REALLY cringe experiences (mostly my fault). I love it here though. No plans to ever return to America. Love your videos!

    • @benjidau5969

      As a Hanoian who wanna make fun of everything, i feel you. Sometime I wanna do good stuff to people/to appreciate people but end up not having the reaction i expected. That was so embarrassingggggggggggggg and i wish i had never done that. It’s like the moment you realize you need to dig a hole to hide because you are too embarrassed of what you have done. I even thought about it 2-3 months later whenever i’m on my bed at night, because that was like an un-erasable stigma which has been mentally created by an idiot like me.
      My America friend who had the same cringe experiences in Vn, assume that was like the difference in culture (like Western pp tend to physically express emotions more than Asians do), but i swear i was the victim of it too so that has nothing to do with culture.

    • @carpetclimber4027
      @carpetclimber4027 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@benjidau5969 No worries. You should know others have forgotten about it alot quicker than you do and they think about it WAY less than you do. Your mistake does not define you in their eyes and if it does your friends are idiots (which I don't think they are, unless it's really serious, like you really hurt someone and didn't apologize). The past is the past. We all do dumb things we regret. There is no reason to dwell on it, only learn from it. It is through a mountain of mistakes we become really good at something. And even then, we still continue to make mistakes now and then. All of us.

    Funny idea Chris and the video is great. "The making of a video" always capture this youtube viewer's attention. I thought it was funny how the part where you were buying the frame and the noise from the sawing or metal/ceramic tile cutting reminded me so much of my time in VN. The constant construction sound.
    I'm so impressed with the electronic and smart phone payment in VN now.
    I was so impressed with the shop owners being very conscious of following social distancing rule.
    Fun video for us viewers Chris.

    Tùy theo cảm nhận của mỗi người. Em thì cảm thấy như anh hết ý tưởng mới làm video này , cơ mà một phần có lẽ do anh hay ngại, nên làm cho người xem cũng cảm thấy thế. Nhưng phải nói thật xem nhiều video của anh em thấy buồn với cách sử sự của một số người Bắc, em cũng là người Bắc Nhưng em sống ở trong Nam .theo em thấy thì đa phần người Nam rất thân thiện, vui vẻ ,thoải mái. Đa phần họ rất đáng yêu. Còn người Bắc kiểu bán hàng khinh khỉnh ,chảnh gì đâu. Nhất là cái Bác lúc đầu photo ý .à mà Còn cái này nữa này. Nhiều người tham ,nhiều video anh trả tiền thừa hoặc những cái không đáng lấy tiền mà họ vẫn cứ nhận. Thật là kì cục. Anh là người Mỹ tốt ,thấy anh hay nghĩ cho người khác. Nhưng nhiều khi xem thấy nó bất công cho anh .

    I think it is exactly this feeling of "regret" and "aftermath awkwardness" that discouraged many people (including Vietnamese) from continue being kind and sharing with others. I hope that you would overcome these temporary feelings soon and eventually realize that it is those actions that would make someone's day and we should encourage that (especially in Asia since people are known to be shy and not very open).
    Ngắn gọn bằng Tiếng Việt: mình thấy Chris không nên cảm thấy ngại và nói rằng sẽ không bao giờ làm gì tương tự nữa vì những cử chỉ tử tế như thế này nên được lan tỏa nhiều hơn.

    Hi Chris. I have watched this video, but I don't see anything wrong. What you have done was very thoughtful and even these people don't say thanks to you but they show their appreciation by do thing for you for free. Also, in the case of the lady, who sold the frames to you, you may not know that the most of Vietnamese, and Australian people, don't get used with tips. So even five cents change, they still give back to you and it is normal. In the whole, I see that you have a very good day. So, enjoy it darling!

When I'm surfing YT, I prefer short videos under 15 minutes, unless I'm watching a documentary or a news program.

      You may prefer videos under 15 minutes but others don’t necessarily. My views are much, much better when I make longer videos. When I make short videos, I get lots of comments saying people want them longer. Remember your views don’t necessarily reflect others. I totally respect your opinion, but thought I would share why I make videos around 20-30 minutes long 😁 thanks for watching and best of luck. Danang is a great place! One of my favorite as well

From my point of view I call that civilization , a child of democracy . We are surprised with your mild profanity with a bit of frustration .
