Coach Devan - Writing a "2 week" or "Alternating" Microcycle: Brendan Farrell Case Study

  • Welcome back! In this video, the primary theme I want to get across is that deviating from the normal/modern 1 week long dynamic microcycle that repeats every week, is a totally fine strategy to take, especially for athletes who have a busy schedule where that strategy isn't reasonable in the first place. I highlight my client Brendan here, where he has a very odd work schedule that alternates every other week. We've tried to stick it out with a more traditional 1 week repeating microcycle design for the sake of holding onto predictability, but it resulted in more sleepless nights and more work impacting training than we would have liked. So ultimately about 7 months ago we compromised and I designed a "2 week" microcycle, and explain how that can be organized for certain athletes where it may be necessary, and give a breakdown of Brendan's unique case with programming and scheduling.
