    Spindrift turned out marvelously. Excellent hand painted stripes. Lighted up, she is wonderful. Base work is realistic. Boll

    Very nice little diorama. On your leds. If you want to run all of your lights on 9 or 12 volts, but have some that are too bright, just wire an extra resistor to the main power wire to the leds that you want to dim down. This will only cut down the brightness on the ones that you want dimmer but won't effect any others that you want to be brighter. You can still run everything on one switch as long as you have a separate power lead from each set of leds.
    I have talked about this and how to make non flickering leds flicker just by wiring up a flickering led to them without having to use a circuit board.

      Jim Paul Jr.The problem with ordering everything prewired is that you really don’t learn enough about using resistors. I still have more to learn about lighting, that’s for sure. I appreciate the tip. Thank you Jim

    Looks amazing, you did a great job. I loved the way the Spindrift looked as a kid as well as loving the programme. Liking at it now it does look a bit off as a spacecraft. Still love it though.

    Excellent job on this kit, especially the lighting for such a small scale! I use Evans designs for my light supplies as well, they are awesome!

  • @fucheduck
    @fucheduck 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I can't believe the detail on this kit. it is so small! excellent work! makes me want to continue with my ICARUS planet of the Apes Jan Rukr model. have put it off for way too long! This spin drift's size and detail is amazing! the passenger area had that back panel that had the same slowly pulsating light(for whatever reason beyond 60's psychedelic probably some kind of nuke furnace-this was a kid's show and realism isn't that improtant.) I suppose you could cut into those red squares and put red semi-clear paper and an LED behind.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. Yep this is pretty detailed kit for being so small. Wish they would release a larger one and you're right that wall behind the passenger seats was lit in the series. Thanks for watching.

      I had the original Aurora model, which was a lot larger. That had a fully modelled interior. You could probably go hog-wild with an aurdrino and some LEDs.

    That looks great I love, the lighting... Mine didn't turn out nearly as good... In addition to the lousy decals I also struggled with the cardboard interior... Tearing and things not folding properly...

    My theory about the dome is its a sun light collector to help power up the ship.
    The side intakes do the same to keep the ship's engines powered up. The Spindrift was supposed to have Ion drive engines.

    Those stripes came out looking great, excellent work! Its a shame even the "custom" decals weren't all that good and personally I'm glad you went with the masking and painting. Very nice, basic diorama that really works well.

    Beautifl job building the model and base. It's really convincing and the lighting works perfectly.
    With three crew members and only 4 passengers, I always wondered how the Spindrift's airline company made money. It must have been a ridiculously expensive ticket. But then how did orphan boy Barry afford one? And with a nuclear reactor aboard, a crash would have really been a disaster, especially from orbit. So many questions...

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you....and LOL....yes I've always thought that it was crazy there were only 4 passengers. I also thought they were just all super rich. Can you imagine what they charged for your baggage? Thanks for watching.

    I have always thought that the Land of the Giants Spindrift life sized prop was originally the Flying Sub from, "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" having been built as a life size prop for Voyage. I recall the last season of VTTBOTS, that a life-sized rear exterior section of the flying sub was made. Producer Irwin Allen was well known to use, and re-use props from one of his TV shows, and use those props for all his other TV show productions.

    Fun build! BTW, TSDS did the Moebius interior. Printed on different paper, but same art.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thought it looked the same. Just better paper with the Moebius sheet then. Thanks for the info.

  • @devilman2465
    @devilman2465 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing that confuses me is that I purchased the decals from TSDS and mine DOES have the smaller stripes for the main hull. I can't imagine why yours didn't . I also bought the photoetched parts from PARAGRAFIX, which are pretty awesome.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah...I thought that was kind of weird. Maybe it was just a bad set?? Thanks for watching.

    Just gotta say, Great Job! I have the Polar Lights model,its twice the size of yours,and its a terrible model.It was warped,and a big chunk was missing from the main body towards the rear of the side.Took me a while to fill and sand.Now Im thinking of ripping it apart and remake it like yours. My Spindrift comes with a interior,figures and if I remember,no decals. I ended up painting all of the strips on mine as well.....All I need now is the time to do it. Cheers from up north,Mark

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. And yes I have the same model and am tempted to rebuild it. You can see my Polar Lights model in the Preview Video of this build. I agree the kit has many shortcomings. I think it would be easy to wire it up with lights and the lighthouse kit. The LED I used here was only 3mm but it is available with a 5mm LED too. Thanks for watching.

    Nice job. With your skills, might I suggest you start to incorporate
    Arduino Nano’s in your models. There is a bit of a learning curve
    but they are dirt cheap and small enough to even fit in something
    like this. With about 40 ma. On the outputs they lend themselves
    well to driving LED’s, not to mention you have total control of
    multiple LED’s and add sensors if you want.

    Actually the actual Spindrift model and the large standing set actually did have a red Dome

    • @johnbockelie3899
      @johnbockelie3899 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had an original Spindrift model back in the 1970's. The dome was made of red clear plastic. I notice the kit now has a clear dome.

      On the show, when the engines flashed blue, they were recharging, and flashing red was full.charge.

    Why did they not make it bigger and substantial

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a shame they didnt. It really is a better, more accurate version. They did eventually re-release the larger model kit but basically is the same kit we've seen over the years. As I understand however, they at least now have options for a more accurate cockpit that you can use for that model. Thanks for watching

    The ONLY thing I didn't like about Land Of The Giants series is that you never ever got a real good look of the Spindrift spaceship except for one episode where a deaf giant child takes the ship home .

  • @paulleeming5733
    @paulleeming5733 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I loved land of the Giants as a kid in the U.K. Now I live in Western Australia. Ironically when I used to watch the show every Friday, I had to run home in order to catch it on the T.V. To my horror, one day when I sat down to watch it a terrible show called Skippy the bush kangaroo came on!!!! Maybe it was fait as a couple of years later we moved to Australia. I always wanted a Spindrift model but on a larger scale, however they don't seem to do any? or do they/

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many of us would love to have a larger scale Spindrift but no...nothing available. Polar Lights re-released the Aurora kit years ago but nothing but this small version since I'm afraid. Thanks for watching

    This kits decals are shit... It's okay you can say it you, know you want to!!! This was my first moebius model too... It won't be my last just based on crappy decals... I'm too stubborn to just quit especially when I have others waiting in the wings...
