This video is so very helpful. There are many video’s on this subject but I really prefer this one. I am only sorry that I don’t live in Hawaii to gain more from your excellent skills. I have seen many of your videos and really admire your skill. As a 73 year old just picking up the Ukulele, it remains clear- practice, practice, practice. I come from coffee house folk guitars of the 1960's. Thank you again.

Rick, thank you! At 74, I too am a product of the 1960s folk movement and LOVED playing in coffee houses. I dearly miss those wonderful hootenanny's!

WOW, I had not heard that term in 25+ years. Vietnam Nam broke up the houses in East Tennessee or at least by the 1970's when I got out music had moved on. Cheers....

@@mymgb238 Actually, neither have I!!!!! Vietnam, because of the draft, also ended my desire to start a career teaching music in high school. So I joined the Air Force, loved it, and turned it into a career. Now that I'm retired, ukulele has afforded me a very meaningful and fun return to music.

@@KimoHusseyUkulele ... my Ortega tenor ukulele keeps my 86-year-old body, mind, and spirit happy and rejuvenated. I love playing jazz and Bossa Nova, although I need more practice in the latter. I’m absolutely convinced that music is key to optimal health!

Thanks Kimo. I'm going to work on this before I do anything else. My wife gave up on the ukulele some months ago, but after showing her your lovely relaxed way of teaching, she's getting back into it again !

Thank you, Trini! Triplets are very useful in playing the ukulele because they invite so much attention, especially when these are used in 4/4 time and that's how I normally use them. Thanks for your note and your interest in ukulele.

Hay thanks I was just watching IZ and trying to figure out what techniques he was using. I have been playing harp for over 20 years. So now I thought I would learn the ukulele. I just love IZ.

Thanks for your note, Sandra. One of my favorite duets in which I played was an ukulele and a harp. Beautiful sounds!!!!!

Hi Kimo, I wanted to say thanks again for your youtube lessons. They're very helpful for a self learned ukulele player. In Feb 2018 I'll be on Oahu to see my grandmother for her 105th birthday. Amazing isn't she? While I'm there I wanted to visit Kamaka Ukulele to learn more history about the ukulele, but I also wanted to purchase a new tenor. Would you be kind enough to list some establishments that you recommend to visit? I also wanted to find out where you got your t-shirt, "You can't buy happiness, but you can buy an ukulele", that I saw on Ko'olau where you and Sam Lemann are just having a great time. Thanks again! Alex

Alex, thank you and Happy Thanksgiving. My recommendation of a store to secure a new ukulele would be the UKULELE SITE! They are in Haleiwa. You'll find plenty of quality inventory that will nicely fit any budget. The T-shirt you mentioned is one of my favorites. I'm sorry I can't remember where I got it from. I've been given so many of these wonderful T-shirts and many years ago lost track of where most of them come from.

Thanks Kimo! I really appreciate the kind greetings, quick response towards my mail. You're the best. While I'm there, I'll be sure to search high and low for the shirt. It brings a smile to my face. Happy Holidays to you.

    Kimo,
Do you have a video that discusses the scale used in this lesson? Or is it just the C scale that starts with 3rd string open, 3rd string first fret, 3rd string 2nd fret,3rd string 3rd fret and then continuing on using the 2nd and 1st strings in the same pattern?
    Thank you.

    • @KimoHusseyUkulele
      @KimoHusseyUkulele  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

No, Doug, I'm sorry I do not have a video about the scale. But it is a simple C scale that is quite learnable.
      Thanks for your post.
      Aloha,
      Kimo

      Aloha, Doug!!!!
Welcome to Ukulele!!!! You're going to love it more and more.
Bill Tapia was over 100 years old when he finally passed and he was still doing gigs after his 100th birthday. What a hero! Based on that, you and I (I'm four years older) have decades left.
      Happy Day,
      Kimo

Kimo Hussey His "Duke of Ukes" CD is the first ukulele music that my wife purchased for me, one great musician. We also have a video of him from the PBS series of California's Gold by Huell Howser.
