Just a clickbite video. I’ve grown in quartieri spagnoli. The zone is dangerous, in the day even. But not for tourists. By the way, even If you are simply walking, the whole area know allredy that you are there and they allredy whistling to each others to follow you whit the eyes-chain. They are not stupid to put someone behind of you in the middle of the day. Every small house ‘vasc’ have enough eyes to get the signal and to switch the signal to the next. The zone is still active, specially in the night. But if you don’t step on wrong feets nothing is going to happen to you in day time. In night is much more easy to get suddenly in troubles. Danger under every side which mean, robber danger, ghb in drinks, drug business, and baby gangs. Camorra is no longer active as before, because there’s not like years ago a boss who manages this particular area, but only The powerful surnames, who’s still free. Who’s still Out Of prison and get the respect from the importance of the surname. However, police don’t get inside there, only special situations. Is not monitored area. If you want get really in trouble in Napoli, go to forcella, marano, scampia. There you can’t come out anymore if you don’t get in whit someone who lives there. Neapolitan criminality is different from US. Is very old and cripted, there’s not criminal out of mind like in US that they just try to kill you because like this round in the head in that moment. If you gonna get shooted in Napoli it will always be for a reason, for tiny reason or not but you need to rappresent a problem for someone. Camorra are not gangster, they don’t walk like bolted Mexicans and white t-shirt. Camorra people are more evil smart. And behind a cute and kind man, would quietly be a big and cold blood camorrista. Cheers 🍻
Most camorrists there dont wanna steal from you , they make a lot more than what your camera is worth . But they dont want they’re face and area in social media because or possible warrants
Esatto, a questo punto è più pericoloso per loro il crimine comune. Quando stai trafficando milioni di euro di droghe, non credo che sia intelligente attrarre l'attenzione della polizia.
@Mam Para he's not going to have problems for the reason he thinks, the "arsehole, gangster mugger".. out for the prize of his camera.. These people are doing there own thing, and him filming in a non touristy way is antagonising. Seems pretty chill and safe tbh, great video
Naples is no longer as dangerous as it used to be, the "Camorra" Mafia doesn't deal with tourists, they work quietly, they make sure they don't show up! I walk in Napoly night time 2. am and I ,m not Napolitan, not Italian! There are no more motor robberies in Naples anymore! I really like your video but it would have been real if you went through it with a hidden camera, because that's how people behave differently!😉
Translation: man has death wish in Italy. You wouldn’t search for a death wish as you would just wish it on yourself. It’s not a tangible thing you could search for therefore you’re way of wording it irritated me.. sorry 🤣
Only in some areas, like in every huge citiy (NY, London, Paris,Rome,tokyo..) anyway the place called "quartieri spagnoli" where he goes around in the video is not very dangerous at night, maybe It was 20/30 years ago
So you were looking for death? Trust me Camorra is not a joke, and it's good you didn't find it. Snatching your camera would be the least of your problem. They don't like cameras there because they think you are a journalist, and they hate journalists. You can go around Naples as a tourists, Neapolitans are actually really friendly, but going around looking for the Camorra, it's a death wish.
Hahaha when was the last time that a tourist was killed in Napoli? Quartieri Spagnoli now is not dangerous at all. They are in city center. Go in Scampia or Secondigliano and have a look!

I'm Brazilian. But have many italians in my family, my bisnonnos are from Italy. 1 of Basilicatta and the others from Veneto. The culture are preserved and I love Italy, but my love of Brazil is bigger. I will visit Palermo in next year. Unfortunately, with Italian imigration to Brazil in 1910~1960 made the nationalist president Getúlio Vargas of the time prohibit the propagation of foreign languages within the country. Because of this, only families from rural Italian colonies still speak the Italian language indoors today. And I not, but I'm learning. I have a friend that speak Talian (Veneto dialect) and he teach me haha. Saudações.
This would have been a very different video at night time...Also there is a very high probability that you were being watched. The whistling was dealers alerting each other that someone suspicious looking (you with a camera) was coming...
U just passed in front of a place where they deal drugs. These zones are no more dangerous as much as before. A lot of Bed and Breakfast popped up over there, so the people around are used to see tourists wandering around. About the masks, u wont see that many in the quartieri spagnoli, that zone is law free. Camorra doenst concern normal people or tourists, they are too busy with much more big affairs. Milan, the capital of Lombardy, ranks 1st in the ranking of the cities with the highest number of crimes and acts of organized crime. There are approximately 8,500 crimes reported per 100,000 inhabitants, with the primacy of thefts from homes and parked cars. The number of murders is decreasing compared to previous years, as well as thefts and robberies, albeit remaining at too high levels. In contrast, scams and computer fraud are a worrying phenomenon in constant increase. In this context, crimes related to online child pornography and cyberstalking are growing, as well as the cloning of credit cards and counterfeiting of money. The sad record of Milan and other cities places Italy in the top positions in Europe for the number of crimes and crimes committed in relation to the population.
Just come back from Naples. Stayed in the Spanish Quarter and had a great time. It has edge but if you respect your surroundings then you won’t have a problem.

I walked with my family across the street from Naples train station up the market road and a group of guys started walking behind us. It was so obviously suspicious and I was looking down at ground watching their shadows behind me, after a bit I saw the shadows hand connect to the back of my bag and turned around very sharply and saw his hand move back. I stopped walking, stared him straight in the face and in a loud voice shouted the name of my step dad who was 20 meters ahead. That dude disappeared real quick. I was ultra suspicious around Naples after that.
I am Italian .. and I was born in those places .. they are wonderful places to eat, for the climate, for the warmth of the people .. but they are also quite lived-in places .. with so many people with problems and who have nothing to to lose .. with difficult situations behind you .. it is better not to go looking for the ugly Naples that is told abroad .. it makes no sense .. go there as tourists who love life .. who want to have a nice holiday .. without necessarily look for the negative side that there may be ... as it should be in all things

"Hi! I'm a tourist! Can you tell me where the members of organized crime are? Are you a member of organized crime? Hey! Hey!!! Stop that! Take your hands off me! Why are you doing that?"
As a "napoletano", I can only say I have never experienced any criminal aggression whatsoever, just like the majority of people here, although I do acknowledge the city is still more dangerous then overall European standards. However, because of how organized crime works, the "victims" of the camorra system are almost always local citizens who, for various reasons, happen to theaten the interests of family clans. The worst that could possibly happen to a tourist is probably being scammed, even if in poorer neighbourhoods like the one you visited the risk of robbery is definitely very high because of the total absence of police surveillance. That said, I believe Naples is worth to be seen anyway if someone out there was planning a trip to Italy, what the city has to offer surely outweighs its problems, which are not to be diminished but, at the end of the day, a perfectly safe place does not exist. Also, that woman at 4:09 sounds like she is a foreigner herself, which I think makes her words even more trustworthy, since there is no "omertà" involved.

Nicely put ..great quote by T S ELIOT
Just a clickbite video. I’ve grown in quartieri spagnoli. The zone is dangerous, in the day even. But not for tourists. By the way, even
If you are simply walking, the whole area know allredy that you are there and they allredy whistling to each others to follow you whit the eyes-chain.
Camorra is no longer active as before, because there’s not like years ago a boss who manages this particular area, but only
The powerful surnames, who’s still free.
Cheers 🍻
As an italian, you explained the concept better than anybody on this comment section
Most camorrists there dont wanna steal from you , they make a lot more than what your camera is worth . But they dont want they’re face and area in social media because or possible warrants

I already visited this fantastic city 8 times. I keep walking through and around everywhere, including the so-called unsafe neighborhoods. Never have I had any problems. Of course you shouldn't be walking around with a camera. Despite the fact that you are walking in a public place, you come somewhere on those people's private land.

What Kurt is really telling us is; it’s important for us to practice the 50/ 100 meter dash.

How do you back at this comment now
What about finding the beauty in what we are sold as, “ugly”? Often a great story comes back from these less touristic places
Naples was the capital of kingdom of two sicilies so there some really beautiful places inside that city. Art, music and cultural artifacts. I would see that rather than this.
