I had a friend in college radio that got me into Sonic Youth. We both went on a road trip to Cleveland Ohio to a festival and Sonic Youth was playing (rather ripped era) thurson grabbed my phone when I was trying to take a picture of him and made noise along his guitar with my phone. He put his guitar on the security guy too which was hilarious (I definitely hit the strings on his guitar when he did that). Kim said a silent thank you to me at the end I think for being the only black kid in a Velvet Underground shirt rocking out.. Forever a fan since.
I love Sonic Youth with all my heart, but I have to say they've done a lot and it's good that they not reform or whatever. Kim's got her various projects and Thurston his. Lee is killing it with his band so....why keep going? It bums me out about their marriage but seeing them on that last tour seemed like a closing. They have a wonderful body of work that I think will be rediscovered in 10-15 years and that's great. All the best to all members, and I want to thank them for the soundtrack to my life. I'm forever in debt for the enjoyment they've given me as well as countless others. Onward, forever forward.
They really have nothing left to do. Their body of work is so vast and amazing as well. There’s so much for fans to listen to. They should just leave it at that. Nothing lasts forever anyways.

I'm just selfish in that I never got to see Sonic Youth live, but it's totally understandable after what went down personally. Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, and Lee Ranaldo are still making really cool music, so I'm still happy.

The video you did with Mark Romanek for Little trouble girl helped to shape my whole vision of how art + music can create a Masterpiece, i still remember listening Bull in the heather for the first on MTV, the cover you did for the Carpernters song, so many things that now are the most happy memories of my life, how can you not be in the Music Hall of Fame, all i can say is; you and Sonic Youth belong to something higher than that, you belong to collective consciousness, there are kids in here that know your music and see Sonic Youth as one the coolest and respectable bands of all time along side Bowie or The Beatles. The greatest triumph of Sonic Youth is the fact that in a place like this, in the end of the world, there are people that love your music, still in 022.
Kim handles all the questions and comments he says with such class- she classy as well as cool af as well as a total badass and original musician- Her , Kim Deal & Stevie Nicks are the ultimate rock chicks imho ❤️🤘🏽

Watched the full interview, it would have been great to hear Kim speak without interruption. The host could probably have a better show if he learned to shut up for a few seconds.
Hall of fame is all about sales, nothing about being a museum and educating people on rock and roll history. Hall of FAME. Lame Kraftwerk is snubbed too.
@@andyisdead They induct other genres, presumably because they influenced rock and popular music in general. Once they did that, they started to have an obligation to historical relevance. Kraftwerk doesn't have to be a rock band - they influenced many bands that blend electronics with traditional rock instruments, and are pioneers in using the technology.
She has such a great vibe about her, love it, shame the band couldn't stay together, probably was still some great creative energy there, but it was undermined by interpersonal BS.
As long as world leaders fall short in fulfilling the aspirations & ideals of the "Daydream Nation", I wouldn't like to see them walking the steps of the Hall of Fame.
This is not going to be a popular opinion but they should have broken up a long time ago. They should have broken up right after Murray Street, their last truly great album. They started out by being experimental, they changed the way that music was being made, but they kept on making variants of Daydream Nation over and over. I think it's pretty good that all four of them are forced to go back to being experimental, I just wish that it didn't take the breakup of a marriage to force them into that. Jazz musicians change partners all the time and they should have done likewise.
RnRHoF honestly just has a bad track record in honouring Alternative Music. Bands like the Cure and Joy Division/New Order, Depeche Mode only got in recently which is just ridiculous long overdue. Whilst SY, Pixies, the Replacements, Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr, the Smiths and countless other alternative bands have largely been ignored for years. Unless you’re a commercial and cultural darling like Nirvana or REM. Even if you influenced other acts already in HoF, you’re pretty much non-existent to those guys

There's all sorts of people/bands who sold bucketfuls of records at their peak, but today you could hardly give their stuff away. That's the way of the world. Being recognised by the 'Hall of Fame' should be about the impact artists had on the scene when they came to fame, and the lasting influence they had on generations of musicians who followed. The Velvet Underground sold few records during their lifetime, but their influence remains as strong as ever.

hall of fame is moronic foo fighters went in first year of eligibility foo fighters have 3 guitar players and a bassist. Put a ff record on and then play a who record or play John Entwhistle’s first solo album, put on a Melvins record. Hear a difference? Foo Fighters are some of the worst heavy handed songs ever recorded. Dave as a young person was way cooler & definitely a distinctive drummer. He really morphed into a giant bag of way too into himself talking.
