    My Maytag maxima machine posted these error codes, and this video helped me fix it, thank you! I had to take apart the front, and found my drain plug completely full of junk, muck, coins and more! Sadly though, the drain wasn’t the problem. To get to the MCU, I took apart the back, which was an easier angle for me. I checked the circuit board on the MCU by removing it from the plastic casing. Then it was plain to see on the underside of the board where it met the plastic, that it had burn marks. Totally fried. I purchased a new one for $300 and solved the problem! I was hoping for just a plugged drain, but happy that I was able to save some money on a repair person by fixing it myself. Thanks again!

    Thank you so much for this video my washing machine just broke and it was giving me these error messages - it's Christmas week and I don't have the time or money to wait for repair man, so I waited for my husband to go to sleep and as a fairly bougie stay at home mom I was able to fix my machine!! It was very easy!

    If your error code is E01 and F06, the problem most likely has nothing to do with the first part of this video. E01 and F06 most likely means the MCU needs to be replaced, which is much much easier to access by removing the rear panel. Remove the rear panel and the MCU will be down on the lower left and is easy to remove. There is a small clip on the lower part of the white box that is facing you. Release the clip and slide the box towards you. Then, once you disconnect the wires you can remove the mother board by releasing the three clips that hold it in place. Search for a small burn mark on the inside of the white housing. If you see one, you'll probably also be able to see the damaged motherboard. MCU. That's what you need.

    Checked the drain pump screen and it was clear. Ordered the mcu and now it works. But as some others have mentioned, don't take off the front panel. You're better off servicing from the back since you have to take it off anyways for the mcu. Thanks and enjoy

    I did everything like you did in the video, the drain was completely clogged (twice as bad but I made 73 cents in change in the trap). I cleaned the door and put everything back together. I start a wash cycle and everything starts up and sound the same to what I am used to hearing except when the water should start to fill up, there is silence( and yes, I turned it back on), then the F01 and F06 code pop up. I unplug the machine checked the water hoses and blow air threw them. Tighten everything up, plug it back in and try again. Nope, same codes. Then I read all the comments and someone unplugged ti for a few minutes. Tried this and ran another cycle. YEAH YEAH YEAH. Woman vs machine... Woman won!!!!!!

    Huge THANK YOU! My whirlpool Duet washer gave an E01 and F01 error. It’s about 9 years old and was able to access the drain filter from the front (followed all your steps) but noticed the rubber lining was difficult to unhook. There was enough slack in this to move the front panel away and access the drain plug. Thanks again for posting this! The issue was a plastic toy gold coin that must have been in one of my kids pockets about the size of a silver dollar coin. 😆

    I had a solid front panel Whirlpool Duet wfw95hexl2
    Machine stopped with F06 E02, tired to run diags and motor didn't turn (not sure if this should have clued me in on MCU failure but this happened). After a a power reset I had F01 E02 (F06 went away, likely cause the motor would respond at all), so I then tried cleaning the trap (as indicated in this video but it didn't help, was pretty clogged though so it was good). No need to remove the front door completely, just stop watching at 1:23 (You can definitely remove the trap from the left or right side working with the door in the way.) The pump is held in place with a rubber red grommet, you can turn that grommet 90 degrees and then slide the pump assembly towards you, this makes it easier to drain into a shallow pan. (or wife's cookie sheet).
    If the trap cleaning doesn't fix the problem DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE THE MCU THROUGH THE FRONT. on this style of machine trying to unplug the wires is by no means easy word easy. Simply pop the 12 screws and open the back up, the MCU is in the lower right left corner, snip the ziptie holding some of the wires to the MCU housing, disconnect the three wires and remove the unit. I got a factory new MCU for 180 at the local Sears Parts and Service center.
    Replacing the MCU solved the problem, but I suggest plugging it in and running through a 30min rinse cycle to be sure your unit is working.

    Thanks for the video, its easier to remove the door and get rid of the extra weight; its only 4 screws
    And you can also leave the door wires on and remove the entire module, 2 screws on the face front

    You Sir, are the MAN! I had F06 E01 flashing on mine. After watching this and seeing a dirty filter can cause this it dawned on me that I washed my dogs bedding and enough hair was removed to insulate my attic. After disassembling and cleaning everything the error cleared and I was able to finish my laundry.

    We took a 4 inch hole saw and cut a hole in the bottom where the coin catch is. Used a shop vac to suck up the water while reaching in and un screwing the catch. Clean out the catch and carried on. Way easier than taking the whole thing apart, especially when you have a stacked set. Stupid design not to have easier access to the drain catch

    Mine is throwing codes E01 and F06. I pulled the filter out and it was terrible; a cloth face mask was in there. I just KNEW it'd work like a charm after I buttoned it all back but no. Is there a way to reset these machines or erase the codes or should that have fixed it? I tried unplugging for a few minutes and still no change.

  • @tonysupersession3408

    You don't have to take the door and front off everything can be accessed from the back if you can move it out. Just remove all the hex screws and remove back panel . The pump/coin catch is just mounted on rubber feet and can easily be pulled off and cleaned from there. Also the MCU is right there as well. To me far easier than removing the door etc.

    My washer wasn’t starting and was flashing E01 then F01. So I finally found out it was the filter. So I removed the junk, there was a lot. But I’m still getting the error code...do you think I need to change the drain pump? I looked at the control board and there’s no burn marks on the back anywhere, plus I just put a new one in a year ago

    Great Video. Here is a good tip. If you get your washer all the way down to the coin catch on the pump...take the pump out too and inspect. This will save you from having to do the disassemble and reassemble again because there was something stuck in pump (hockey tape).

  • @JakeG462
    @JakeG462 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Attention......if you are about to perform this task ...DO NOT REMOVE THE BELLOWS ( grey rubber door seal) FROM THE REAR as shown in video , just remove it from front around the door opening , it’s much easier,and you can reassemble everything and then attach seal last !!!

    • @larrybud
      @larrybud 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, absolutely. No reason you ever need to remove that rear seal unless you're replacing the seal itself.

  • @frankmclean2004
    @frankmclean2004 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In terms of removing and reinstalling that ring that holds on the rubber seal, just remove the top weight and the clamp is right underneath. To make it even easier, unscrew the 'frame' that runs behind the face plate and also the nut that 'suspends' the soap dispenser drawer, after which you can move the frame gently out of the way and simply unscrew that clamp. Having this extra room takes this part of the job from mystifyingly complex (why would they design it like that?) to logically simple (though still a mite painful.)

      It did. Didn't realize the amount of stuff that could get down there. Coins, globs of lint, one of those kids' flossing one use things.... Either way. Love the video. If it builds up again, think I'll cut an access port into the bottom of the front panel. Might not happen again for years through. I'll wait until then.
      *Worst part is a friend of mine owns his own repair business for appliances. But still would've cost at least $100 for a service call.

    We have Maytag MHW8000AW0 and got E1 F6 code.
    Removed a tire front panel as described, cleaned out drain, which was full of various items, replaced. Still shown E1 F6, so we purchased a new MCU, once it arrived in mail, completely replaced and found burnt terminals on old MCU.
    Now with new MCU is in place, washer turns on, but when we try to start a wash, nothing happens except the typical beep. Door won’t lock, no common sounds of wash wanting to start.
    Any clue? The replaces MCU was OEM and an exact match for Old MCU

    In my Maytag Maxima, I heard a pop follow by a (hint of a electrical burning smell) now it reads F06 E02. I am assuming this is the MCU because the motor is not coming on?Even though the manual says CCU to UI. Thoughts?

    • @D.I.Y._All-in-One

      if there was a electrical burning smell there should be evidence on the damaged piece some sort of black or burn mark etc. I would inspect the mcu and ccu and any other parts you can easily see that show signs of damage.

    • @MrRi-hl7nv

      personally, I'd just check all the electronic connections that you put back together when you re-assembled the washer. specifically, if you completely removed the button panel.
      I'm no expert but having two panels go bad back to back seems unlikely. your error code is a communication code between two sections of the washer, specifically the user interface (button panel) and the central control unit. my guess, a cable wasn't inserted all the way and it vibrated loose.

That rubber tub seal and wire band was a bear to put back, but got through it and my washer is happy again. The door locks and will not advance any further - I hear a clicking noise that appears to be comeing from the control board as if its wanting to go further but will not - does that sound like a MCU issue?

    Very interesting video. The error I am getting is F06 E01. I was told that is likely the CCU, not the MCU and if it was the drain that another code would pop up. I ordered a new CCU and replaced it, but after I turned the machine on I got the SAME error code, so I'm thinking that is not the problem. I'm about to return the CCU and was about to give up on the machine altogether. Do you think that the MCU or the drain being clogged is the problem with that error code?

Then roll the gasket off the front lip.Easy peasy,and no career involved.Then remove the 2 or 3 screws to the door lock,depending on what lock you have.Push it through.With the screws out of the front panel,it is easily removed. In closing,DO NOT REMOVE THE BOOT CLAMP OFF THE TUB.

    This was mostly helpful. Unfortunately, you skipped over how to remove the wire band. You mentioned it but didn't show it on the video. I got stuck on that part.

      Sorry I didn't show the actual removal I did show where it was located at 1:24 mark though . When i was filming the video the home owner just happened to be standing in front of the camera when i was removing the band unfortunately .

    I’ve had my repair guy out twice , the filters been cleaned out, he replaced a part I don’t think it was the MCU (can’t remember which one ) but it was still throwing the Fo1 O9 and SUd codes but NO backed up suds so it’s misfiring for some reason. I can’t figure it out but maybe changing the MCU is the last step. It’s driving me crazy bc the washer still has years left on her I know it. I have to figures this out. If anyone has any ideas for a machine still throwing those codes after all these things have been done , please help🙏🏼🙏🏼thank you! 3:15

    I cleaned the drain. Started it up but I don't hear any water to start the cycle. Same error. Would this still mean that the mcu needs to be replaced?

    • @D.I.Y._All-in-One
      @D.I.Y._All-in-One  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like that is the problem. Also make sure your water hoses on back of machine are getting pressure and are not clogged there is a screen usually where they hookup sometimes they clog with sediment but that happens very rarely .But I'm guessing its the MCU.

    while you have the front panel iff cut out and access hole for the catch

    • @garywedemeyer4131
      @garywedemeyer4131 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Done and done. Great idea. What I would strongly recommend for this is to not remove the seal. Just remove the bolts that hold the front panel in place. Tilt it forward with the seal intact and the gap gives you room to accurately measure where that access hole needs to be cut so that you can access the catch.

    So i have this code, but my clothes are locked in the washer. How do you get the door to unlock?

  • @terryc.simmons8415
    @terryc.simmons8415 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do NOT remove the clamp holding the tub boot seal to the tub. You're just looking for trouble and hours of needless heartbreak. And even possibly a flooded laundry room.I wonder why he never showed you how he put it all back together? Just remove the spring from under the lip at the front part of the door deal.Pull the gasket off the lip and tuck it inside the doorway. DO NOT disconnect the wires off the door lock. Remove the screws securing it and push the lock back. With the panel screws out,the panel will easily be removed. You're welcome. I may have just saved your marriage. You're welcome.

    Are you kidding me!? I have to take the whole door and front off just to clean a filter/trap! That’s a very poor design, Damn it! Anyway, I took the rubber seal off from the door panel side, seems easier to put back on than the drum side.

    • @jjtopp99
      @jjtopp99 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's easier (less complex and faster) to just take the rear panel off and access both the MCU and drain filter. The drain filter is easily removed, cleaned and replaced (since it only requires hand tightening) from the back as well (there IS enough room to remove it and put it back in easily). The MCU is nearer the back of the machine (lower left side as viewed from the rear) too. We own a Maytag Maxima which looks pretty much identical (internally) to the unit in this video. However, our MCU P/N is W10245123.

    Took about 3 hours, they don’t ,
    Make it easy, control box was way in the back, hard to disconnect. Tip: slide it away from you to dislodge it.

    While this was very helpful, how the heck do you loosen the wire band clamp around the inner seal? You skipped right over that part, simply saying you need to loosen it. I can barely get to it, and it looks like it’s a screw that needs to be loosened. I can’t get a screwdriver in there....

  • @elin1049

    You shouldn't have removed the gasket from the inside. You could have just remove the spring clamp around the door.
