Thomas Frank and Eddie Howe are probably both great punts between gw31 and gw33. Loads of potential for upsets given their teams home record and both teams still in EFL cup as well.
I was able to come up with like 5 really cool ideas speculating what it was going to be with a friend and this is not only not one of them but possibly the worst idea anyone could come up with.
good news for engaged managers to actually be rewarded for higher fpl points when captaincy variance will bite them in the behind many times from now until gw38.
Most people are casual players who just do what content creators do, hence why everyone is closer to each other in their mini-leagues. They'll just copy what the content creators do with their chips, like they usually do.
Just a thought as it's a long way ahead, but I was thinking managers of teams at the bottom of the table with home matches against sides with little to play for at the end of the season could be worth considering, especially in regards to the five places higher in the table scoring an extra 10 points rule. I had a quick look at the fixtures and Wolves and Ipswich have winnable home games against sides from higher up the table as part of their run in.
Simplified version with same concept: Pick manager for one gameweek. Doesnt require budget. 5 points for win, 2 for draw, 2 for each goal scored. Doubled if opponent if 5 league places higher. Simple
Actually it’s going to require a bit more planning than Harry suggested. 1st we’ll have to free up around £0.8M to £1.5M to buy the assistant manager. 2nd, we have to make sure we have a fairly stable team since we won’t be able to play any more chips for those three weeks, and 3rd, we’ll have to most probably sell any players who may be playing against the new assistant manager’s team to maximise returns. I assume the cost of the new assistant manager goes back into the bank when the chip is finished.
A terrible idea - I have casual players in my league who will find this new chip far too complicated and will possibly drop out from playing altogether
I agree with your risk/reward analysis and thanks for reassuring us by pinpointing the best window to play it when we won't play other chips. If we want the upside we could play the wildcard earlier and build up transfers for the GW24 onwards period, especially as, if you picked Bournemouth manager earlier in the season when they beat Arsenal, drew with Villa and beat Man City, you would have scored 47 points! Having briefly checked the season so far, only 17 times has a team beaten a team 5 places higher out of 144 games, roughly 12%. But if you pick Slot and Liverpool win score 2 goals and get a clean sheet three games in a row, that's 30 points. Depending on my rank, I would prefer the safer option. It would definitely be fun to choose the riskier option! The advantage, though, of saving a Liverpool place for Slot means you don't have to worry about saving transfers for switching between managers every week. Lots to think about but time to work it out.
It says if manager if suspended or fired it makes no difference, your pick will be the same just they will change manager name etc if a new manager comes in
For those who used the Triple Captain chip already and if LIV double gameweek is put into gameweek 24, this makes the mystery chip VERY boring because many managers will use it immediately activate the chip on Jan 26-31 (days before the gw 24 deadline) where LIV have BOU(a), EVE(a), WOL(h), so 3 matches in 2 gameweeks, then MCI(a) or you likely use a Free Transfer to another manager in 26 like Bournemouth (WOL h) or Arsenal (WHU h) or Leicester (BRE h, maybe a draw / win for more FPL pts)
@@Bluemoon4415-s5v I have Triple captain left and am planning to use in gw24, but you could play in DGW36 instead and use the bench boost in any gw that's not 29-34 and 36. FH29 will be more popular than FH34 because when in 29 the four teams likely to blank are Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Ben Crelin has not confirmed those four teams being a possibility to blank explicitly, but since gw29 is during the weekend of EFL Cup Final, I expect those four to blank. He has mentioned FH29 as a possible plan insetead of 34. It's good to wildcard in 30 after those four teams blank so you don't use FTs and therefore require -4 or -8 hits to negotiate gw30 and beyond. In gw29 BOU host BRE, LEI host MUN, IPS host NFO, FUL host TOT, NEW host CRY, MCI host BHA, SOU host WOL, so there's enough different options to pick 10 solid players + keeper from (i.e. Sels or Onana, Kepa). Haaland could do well in that fixture, C.Wood has poor fixtures before gw29 so his ownership will be lower, BOU could score many past BRE, FUL midfielder and B.Fernandes, Cunha, Isak or Gordon etc.
This chip requires planning if you want to use it on teams lower down the table, CRY fixtures in 31-33 are worth considering. However, they may not double in gw33. Brighton, Man City, Bournemouth are their opponents respectively and are ALL likely to be 5 spots or higher up the table before each of those gameweeks. C.Palace at home are improving (MUN draw, LIV 1-0 loss, Fulham poor showing 2-0 loss, TOT win 1-0, NEW 1-1 draw, MCI 2-2 draw since OCT 1).
Harry ,so grateful for your concise explanation on this . I actually love this chip idea it makes the game a little more stratigic & complex in the second half of the season.. Could be quite a few swings in points at the death. It certainly freshens everything up .
The MORE you think about how straightforward the chip is (if you use on lesser or stronger teams up to you ofc), the more attractive this idea sounds because having to spend 0.5-1.5m of your budget is not TOO much and it can be used for 3 weeks in a row. Manager transfers should be recommended in all honesty. CHELSEA in gameweek 27 and 28 are SOU(h), LEI(h) and in 26 (just before those two friendly home matches) or 29 (just after those two matches) you could use on a different team where you can see a lesser team getting a draw and earning maybe 11pt with a 1-1 or 12pt in a 2-2 score.
Super effort for putting this video out so quickly after the announcement Harry, and also discussing initial strategy- you must never sleep man!! Personally really don’t like it but we have to embrace it!!!
I feel we should try and get this chip out of the way before silly season starts. Silly season of course being BGW DGW FH TC BBW season. Ideally we get this out the way after the LFC double v everton, then we are free to continue. The only downside I see to then, is that we need to be banking transfers to navigate GW29 - last year if you played the FH then, you were a net loss than those who saved it. This year isn't expected to be as chaotic, so no FH usage in 29, instead it is requiring banking of xfers. So to conclude, probably you won't want to spend a transfer on a manger, thus pick a manager who has 3 good fixtures in 26, 27, 28. The best fixtures I see in that time, with the table as it is or close to current state are: Chelsea - avl SOU LEI (so so many goals v southampton and leicester predicted there at home), Man United - eve IPS ARS (potential home win v Arsenal after 2 easy games could mean 10 bonus) City (if in 6th place) - LIV tot nfo (bonus 10 points v LFC plus 2 easier fixtures) Wovles - bou FUL EVE (real gamble on winning extra bonus 2 or 3 times with a win)
I think given it is a 3 week chip it will favour those who have used their triple captain chip already this season, I wonder if next year it will be available all season or just in second half of season as presumably it would not be able to be used too early in the season as the 5 team gap would not be established
Ideally, I think you'd play it on a "strong" team on paper that is low ranked (e.g. Spurs, Man United, maybe even City), facing some "weaker" higher ranked teams (e.g. Forest, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham). Will require to really assess the "strong" teams momentum/form though.
Thanks Harry. Agree with u this is the most confusing chip. So manager is just another group (outside GK/DEF/MID/FWD) that has it's own scoring rule. My question is is the rule of the game going to change from 'max 3 players' per team, to become 'max 3 players and/or manager' per team? e.g. if I triple Arsenal defence Raya/Timber/Saliba, then I cannot hv Arteta as manager, right?
and just like that, they ruined the season. for example, it can only be used from gw 24 onward...and its a 3 week window in which no other chips can be used. so, if you have a triple captaincy left, and cant use it in that manager chip window, while someone who already used tc on the haaland hattrick can freely use the manager chip without blocking the TC.....the person who used the tc early has an advantage in using the manager chip. if this new chip was announced BEFORE the season, then fair play. but mid-season is completely ridiculous. and this is coming from someone who already (successfully) used their tc early.
It might be a good idea to save for the last three gw because if a lower down team who is avoiding relegation plays a higher team that is on the beach they might get a win and you would get the bonus ?
This game is so popular and has such great longevity purely because of its *simplicity* . They gone and took a massive dump on that with this daft new chip 🤦🏻♂️
Maybe OK if we knew about it at the beginning of the season. Now team values are pretty much set so those with money in the bank or still to sell Haaland will have the advantage to buy the more expensive asst mgrs? Already feel like a CFO rather than a manager this year, now going to get worse!
The most expensive manager is 1.5 mil, if you don't have Haaland, then you should have plenty of money to afford 1.5 mil. It's like buying another player for 1.5 mil.
Why? It's a good chip that's like having an extra player for 3 weeks that will cost you between 0.5 to 1.5 mil. Surely you'll take that?! It could be so useful to help make up ground, or open up a lead. and makes you really think hard as to when to play it, and which managers you will choose for each of the 3 successive gameweeks.
Best to do it when a mid table home team is at home to a team 5 or 6 places above where theyll be favourites but you get the massive jump in points to 16. Then spend a transfer to jump on another manager during 3 week run.
Manager prices won't change so it may well be worth swapping your manager every game week for those 3 weeks using your free transfer. Because getting a minimum of 17 points for a win against a team 5 places higher is huge. Brentford are excellent at home and so would a Villa or Newcastle.
Agreed, there's already a large element of luck in this game and careful gameplay only confers slight advantage. with this you will have people fluking their way to the top of mini leagues, probably good for casual players but I expect will annoy more serious ones

Given that im sturggling to find 0.1m to bring in a better defence, i dont see myself having 1.5m to spend on a manager!
Interesting, thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure I'll use it on Slot. Trent, Slot and Salah in my team.
