For casuals, they probably just choose a manager from the club they're supporting, or just go for Slot. For engaged players, let the overthinking begin.....
Andy, at the end you're talking about the bast 3 match run and the swing been low. You could gave a manager getting +40 points performing really well and a premium manager going on a 3 match non-winning streak performing below par the swing could easily be 35 points plus
If they did this, it simply encourages players to choose one of the top managers because the single-event likelihood of a top team winning a match is much higher than for the teams lower down the league table. Making it 3 games should be interpreted as FPL saying you could be rewarded big time for choosing a lower down team because of associated win bonus and the likelihood of scoring a win across 3 wins is relatively good.
That would really depend on who it is against. Don't forget that Brentford hasn't had the most difficult home fixtures, their toughest home fixture thus far is the very unreliable Newcastle. That will turn around next year, they will have Arsenal, City and Liverpool at home in january.
One potential strategy I thought of right away was waiting until the last 3 games of the season where plenty of teams do not care anymore as they have nothing to play for and picking a team scrapping for survival for those big +10s beating teams mid table. Obviously a gamble but could win you your mini league out of nowhere
Brentford in gw35 play ManUtd(h). We know at home, they score lots and usually win. Then Ipswich in gw36 play Brentford(h) when Bretnfrod have minimal motivation to win as top 6 is out of reach and they are safe from relegation. Then Ipswich play Leicester(a) in gw37 who may be 7pt or more above the relegation zone and have less motivation to win than Ipswich who are 2pt away from safety and want PL prize money.
@@ClydeBickford 95% chance gw36 is a large double gameweek (i.e. 32 teams play not 20), so imo bench boost appears to be best used here or in gw33 for another double gameweek (i.e. 26 teams play not 20). This mystery chip has to be used in a double gameweek and the FH chip looks good for gw 29 blank when 16 teams play and CHE play ARS, or gw34 in another blank gameweek (according to Ben Crellin, an FPL twitter fixture plan guru who is sitting top 30k rank right now)
The Norway FPL leagues had some fun ideas for chips a few years back. This sounds a bit complicated. Just have 2 sets of chips for each half of the year.
It also didn't consider manager combinations. The sample also doesn't include double GWs (I know this was said in the video). The swings are WAY higher than that table would imply.
Last 3 gameweeks of the season, team down the bottom of the league that need to win with other teams taking a their foot of the gas Less planning with transfers and funds
This is like adding random stars at the end of Mario Party. It’s the great equalizer, but also can hurt someone who did really well, or help someone who has done poorly. Feels like it leans toward luck more than skill.
To me, it makes sense to activate this chip on a lower half club playing at home with solid offence against a poor away side higher in the standings. Leicester (Brentford h in 26) then Chelsea (SOU h in 27, LEI h in 28) seems enticing. You would only be reliant on a LEI home win in gw26 as CHE probably keep one CS and score at least 6 goals for gw27-28. Wildcard afterwards looks to be great if you want to have multiple Chelsea players in 27 and 28 before Arsenal(a) in 29.
This is quite complicated. But there is a big upside if you can score 47 points in 3 gameweeks! However, having briefly checked the season so far, there has only been 17 times a team has beaten a team 5 places higher (e.g. Bournemouth have beaten Arsenal, and Man City) out of 139 games. So that's roughly a 12% chance which is quite low (e.g. the top FPL players score at least 50% rate). I know you said Andy it might be worth going lower down the table but you'd have to either get lucky or try and jump on a team who are smashing it and facing teams higher up the table for 3 gameweeks (of course, you could jump from one manager to another but it costs you a transfer). It might be safer to pick only 2 players for the top teams and pick Slot, Arteta or Maresca who are highly likely to win three games in a row, score goals and get clean sheets. If say, a top team wins, scores a goal and gets a clean sheet, that's 9 points, 27 points in total. If you had Areola in the three-week run when they would have scored 47 points, that's a big upside but only a 12% likelihood of happening. Holding transfers won't be an issue if you plan to use Slot, for example, for three gameweeks. Most managers will only have 2 Liverpool players because of rotation of attacking players. If, however, you want to be more risky and fail in teh first gameweek, you might want to switch to another manager and use a transfer. In that case (and anyway), it might be worth using the wildcard BEFORE gameweek 24, to line up your team for the three week period. Of course, knowing when the double and blank gameweeks will drop is so important as we need to plan for Bench Boost, Free Hit and Triple Captain. A lot to think about but we have time. Watch for weeks of overanalysis from all content creators.
I think the ideal strategy is to wait for a 4 game stretch including a double where a team 8-13 play one big team at home that's vulnerable and 3 easy games. Either that or go for a relegation dogfight team in the last 3/4 weeks.
@@sid7607 - Yes, sounds good. Also, the table will look very different come GW24 and may continue to change week to week. @@drdavid1963 my instinct is to play it gws 36-38. Go with a bottom 5 manager and pray. Maybe spare some changes for a title fighting team. I think for a Liverpool double, I would want 3 Liverpool players rather than a manager. Although a manager can get you 15+ points in a dgw even without the table bonuses. So not sure. If city go on a run like they have in the previous years, getting pep is a no brainer.
The real Q about USING the chip is, Triple Captain Salah in 25 (assuming it's WOL h and EVE a) or bring in Slot as the third LIV option? 1 point for every goal scored feels more useful than 2 points for a clean sheet.
Brentford plays VERY well at home, scoring goals and winning, have Man Utd(h) in gw35 who in the last two seasons have won 4-0 and drew 1-1. Man United could be 5 places above them in the standings by this time. Then you can switch to Ipswich who have Brentford(h) in 36 and Leicester(a) in 37 (assuming BRE are safe from relegation before gw36 deadline and LEI are safe from relegation before gw37 deadline, it's quiet probable Ipswich win either of those matches).
You can literally turn each point on its head: 1. It rewards careful budget management 2. It’s another route to a team if tricky to triple up with transfers 3. Means most players will be playing some sort of chips for 6-7 weeks in the second half which adds interest and volatility Feels like you went into this ready to complain
Keep in mind swings can and will be much higher, as that table only shows the best 3 game week score, so could easily be a 50/60 point swing if you use it on a dgw vs someone who uses it on a manager that loses all 3 games!
I initially feel it makes the most sense to use this chip for either LIV in gw 25, then use a transfer in 26 to Amorim for Everton(a) in 26, Ipswich(h) in 27 so activate it before gw 25 deadline to use for gw25-27. Can't see a guarenteed win or CS for Liverpool in 26 (Man City away) and/or 27 (Newcastle home)
How about this: Get 2 Newcastle in, Isak and Gordon, make sure have Trent and Salah - Eddie Howe GW24, Slot GW25 likely double, Eddie Howe again GW26. Newcastle have Fulham and Forest likely both 5 places ahead in league, Liverpool have double
To clarify - I don't think it's a swing of 23 points. Those are the best scores for those managers. All of those also could have had 3-gameweek periods where they scored far lower
this has potential to be a better double gameweek chip than TC, TC haaland and palmar had some good results this season, free hit imo is the best chip for blank gw, I like to use wildcard when out of options not necessarily to prepare for DGW, and bench boost is good whenever all the fixtures align, and this chip has the potential to even double dip 2 DGW if they're close to each others if it comes back in later seasons.
I feel the simplest way to achieve a successful result will be by going for teams on form. The goals and clean sheets points are a added bonus. They have added this five places above ya win means you get 10, so that FPL managers will consider all the managers available.
The swing could be way more becasue you are only comparing each teams best 3 week spell. There is no guaranteed the team you pick gets any points if you lose to nil in all their matches.

Unlimited budget to be used in a single gameweek to earn points on ALL 15 players would have been more enjoyable. Imagine getting 45pts from three Man City players home to Wolves in gw35.
I am thinking about using it at the end of the season on a team fighting for relegation that has at least 2 of the 3 matches agsunst teams with nothing to play for.
I like it, feels like everyone’s got very similar squads now and apart from captaincy there’s no real differentiators between engaged managers now, so nice to have something else to think about and make a difference
The swing is bigger than that because those are still the best possible scores. You could score zero points, so the potential swing so far is 47 points
It's a fun idea but you're spot on when you say it's not great for the casual players. Too many rules and complications tied to it. Surprised you can win so many points from this chip, especially with the beating teams 5 places above you in the league thing. An extra 10 points?!
Not sure if I like it or not, but there certainly will be lots of points to get from it. You could for example get Amorim when/if united find their form under him and start climbing the table.
Just a thought as it's a long way ahead, but I was thinking managers of teams at the bottom of the table with home matches against sides with little to play for at the end of the season could be worth considering, especially in regards to the five places higher in the table scoring an extra 10 points rule. I had a quick look at the fixtures and Wolves and Ipswich have winnable home games against sides from higher up the table as part of their run in.
The ultimate winners from this news are those who used their Triple Captain chip for Haaland (IPS h) or Palmer (BRE h) or Saka (SOU h) or Fernandes (LEI h) and now can use it on Arne Slot in 24,25 and switch their manager to Bournemouth or Arsenal in gw26.
For the last part of the video with the points swing - these are the BEST points of all the managers. You could pick someone for 0 points - 3 losses, no goals scored.
Thanks, great video Andy. It doesn't seem to be a bad chip at the moment. May have to fit it in before WC and bench boost after? A new notebook for Christmas, please 🎁😂
Deciding when to use triple captain will play a big part in many peoples choices for this. I thought it might have been free hit with unlimited budget .it will take a lot of thinking about. my first reaction is its not the greatest chip.
I absolutely LOVE this mystery chip reveal. Adds so much strategy and considerations. Yes it's a bit confusing at first but with 8 weeks to dissect and analyze the possibilities... love it. Can't wait to see how it plays out.
Just rewards sheer luck even more. Terrible addition. Captaincy choice is bad enough, you can do all the due diligence you like and pick the "best" option then get decimated in the ranks by those that picked an obviously unlikely one. (GW15 anyone?) This new chip is captaincy fluke fest on steroids. I wont be playing FPL next year if this horsesh chip is still around, I'll move to SKY. There was absolutely no need to change a recipe that wasnt broken.
Tx Andy! Seems like fun, but complicated fun, and not sure I like all the tules and limits…Im sure somewhere will figure out algorithms and what not to show best possible outcomes, etc
Ridiculous chip and unnecessarily complicated! I don’t understand the point of introducing it halfway through the season. Seems like a change in fpl just for the sake of change
I guess they want a chip that entices people back who have drifted away during course of season and which could propel them back into the game. Stupid overall.
I love the concept behind the chip. You just have to think it out deeply. And it will be a little team dependent. It is a chip that would force you to do some analysis. When the scores start coming in from its usage, you will see that it is a big deal chip.
That manager returns table was also based on their best three games, which is very hard to do - Would you have pick Bournmouth knowing they were playing Arsenal and City - I don't think so
Honestly, I love it. I generally think FPL has been somewhat harsh on engaged managers this year and this is the kind of thing that rewards excel sheets. So I am all for it. If you want this chip to be fun, the best time to use it will be 36-38. Lot of Chaos but a lot of Fun.
That's a swing of 23 pts only when picking the managers at the perfect time, could be more could be less obviously. Overall I think it's good to make changes and experiment with different chips, I'd like for them to introduce a different chip every year..
Its not complicated for a causal - you just chuck an assistant manager in and see what happens! It is complicated for a dedicated player trying to maximise points at all times, because it adds so many more permutations.
Remember, that variance is between the best scores for each manager. The variance between the best scores of a manager and worst of another will be much higher than 23 points
i actually like chip idea,,,u could beat a team 5 places higher but then next game u arent 5 places behind next opponent cause u won first game very intersting.
Can't wait for Slot to pick up a red card for -3 points and miss a double gw
I’m pretty sure you’ll just get the points for the team regardless of any managerial cards.
in the rules it does say you get points even if the manager gets a red card or is not on the touchline.

I actually love it no one thought of this everyone complaining means they did a great job it shakes things up
"screws" things up you mean
I like it. I can't wait to pick Amorim and pick up no points
Oh I like it! A LOT Bank a load of transfers in advance and rotate managers through mid table teams!
Great vid once again Andy!
(GW15 anyone?)
This new chip is captaincy fluke fest on steroids. I wont be playing FPL next year if this horsesh chip is still around, I'll move to SKY. There was absolutely no need to change a recipe that wasnt broken.
i like it, its risk vs rewatd....so you attack or defend or maintain
Using it around 25/26 when Slot gets his DGW and then WC out in GW 30/31 & using the funds on the players
This sounds absolutely awful
Fax
Awful idea by fpl. They don't make any major changes to the game for years but they then add THIS?!
😂😂😂
wdym awful, this chip can change your overall rank completely. You can gain 60+ points which is far more than TC, BB or FH will give u
Having to free up funds for the chip is ridiculous
Do you get your money back in your budget, after the chip is done
Tx Andy! Seems like fun, but complicated fun, and not sure I like all the tules and limits…Im sure somewhere will figure out algorithms and what not to show best possible outcomes, etc
It's Like opening your Xmas present ...and its socks
Love getting socks for Christmas.
Not bad could have been better like having an auto captain chip where your highest scoring player gets the armband by default that week
The table at the end was showing each manager's best scores so the spread could be much bigger
Ridiculous chip and unnecessarily complicated! I don’t understand the point of introducing it halfway through the season. Seems like a change in fpl just for the sake of change
I guess they want a chip that entices people back who have drifted away during course of season and which could propel them back into the game. Stupid overall.
They are diluting the soul of the game in the name of popularity, atrocious @@tituschalk
I love the concept behind the chip.
You just have to think it out deeply. And it will be a little team dependent.
It is a chip that would force you to do some analysis.
When the scores start coming in from its usage, you will see that it is a big deal chip.
Straight away I think I'm going for Iraola's Bournemouth in GW 29-31
Initial thought is bench boost then use the budget from your playing sub keeper to put towards the assistant manager.
100% think chip is going to get used on Liverpool's double game week. Salah, Trent and Slot for a guaranteed 4 games sounds very good.
i think adding a manager from the beginning could be interesting. guess this is them trialling it.
Feels like the best time to use this is at the start of a season or end of the season
Very nice video Andy!
I think it will be fun and after all that's why we play this game aren't we?
Terrible chip.. dumb that you have to allocate team funds for it and unnecessary complicating everything
On first hearing it, was underwhelmed, but now knowing the ins and outs, think this could be a game changer…..
Man City will be mid table by that point so they could be a good option
That's a swing of 23 pts only when picking the managers at the perfect time, could be more could be less obviously.
Overall I think it's good to make changes and experiment with different chips, I'd like for them to introduce a different chip every year..
Bollocks.
Something simple and exciting like “x 10 points” would have been far better.
I would want Thomas Frank as my manager if Brentford were at home to a team 5 places above them.
Sounds good to me. I think could be worth making a transfer on the last week of the manager to a cheaper manager to bank the cash before you lose it..
Could be really useful for the final three weeks. Especially if a relegation threatened side is playing mid table sides on there holidays
I like it. Added stress and planning… but fun.
Its not complicated for a causal - you just chuck an assistant manager in and see what happens!
It is complicated for a dedicated player trying to maximise points at all times, because it adds so many more permutations.
Is Pep nailed? 😅
🤣🤣
Remember, that variance is between the best scores for each manager. The variance between the best scores of a manager and worst of another will be much higher than 23 points
It is interesting, but would prefer if the assistant manager didn’t cost anything, and perhaps lower the extra points you can get just slightly.
i actually like chip idea,,,u could beat a team 5 places higher but then next game u arent 5 places behind next opponent cause u won first game very intersting.
This is not complicated. An extra player that can gain you points. Focus on overall team performance and matchups
Using this chip towards the end of the season when the relegation teams are fighting and get results out of nowhere is useful!
