As a child I had a fascination as well as fear of cemeteries. My mom always told me “it’s not the dead ones you have to worry about it’s the live ones you have to watch out for”. How right she was! Be vigilant and keep filming!

Matt, love your vids, however, you have to remember that a lot of the areas you go to don't normally have people with magenta hair visiting them. With the amount of cemetery vandalism as happens, I tend to think that they are actually being vigilant in order to keep their cemeteries safe. Godspeed and good journeys.
There is so many graves out there a person couldnt possibly know who may be related or know people buried there. ..especially in broad daylight. Cemetaries are public unless otherwise noted so on signs. You are actually free to walk around and look the place over. We do it quie often.
It's actually a really strange concept to me to follow someone anyone in a cemetery. I'm from New England and cemeteries are treated as museums/parks, just a place to take a stroll. A lot of people go in them, not even just people who really enjoy cemeteries particularly.
I understand and give credit to guys checking cemeteries, I know you`re not from that kind of people, but you seen by your own eyes how much of vandalism and destruction there is on old cemeteries and if those checkings do some prevention, then they go for it.
What a lovely property. The mausoleum was built in 1930 if my memory of reading Roman numerals is correct. My husband and I love to stop at out of the way cemeteries on road trips, and it's not uncommon for a local person to take notice and check up on us. I imagine not to many Harley riders take breaks in cemeteries! Every single time, we've ended up having great conversations and made new friends, not to mention also getting a local history lesson. As long as you're honest and respectful, I can't imagine anyone other than a total jerk asking you to leave.
The Spanish American war was in 1898, for years after the Womens Relief Corps lady died. Her years were 1850 to 1894. If her service were during a war, it was as a young teen in the Civil War. Her husbands marker looks like one of the Civil war era markers.
When I was in high school back in the 80s my buddy and I were in a cemetery looking for a grave of this kid that got killed in a auto accident a few months earlier. It was around nine o’clock at night when these security / cops showed up. They were not happy we were there. Read us the riot act. Scared us good. In Oregon it’s against the law to be in a cemetery past nine at night. Didn’t know that. I think they were having a lot of vandalism going on at that time and thought we looked suspicious. When I saw the white SUV watching you it reminded me of that night in 1986.
Sometimes, open land in cemeteries is not just land waiting to be used. Often, those that could not afford grave stones were buried at the back of the cemetery in unmarked plots. If the cemetery has been continually maintained, you can't know they're there, since the depressions in the land are often filled-in over the years. The only way to tell if there are burials there is through cemetery records or ground penetrating radar.
The drainage slope and holes must be open, and the ventilation system working as well.lack of air and well-sealed caskets results in bodies liquifying.
Nice content. You might point out that the better-made mausoleums have several vents that can be seen from the outside. Without such vents, many caskets would explode and contaminate the otherwise pristine interiors.
From what I could find, The Women's Relief Corp was a society of women that was dedicated to keeping the memory of the Civil War's Union soldiers alive.
Awesome mausoleum and what a lucky break that it was unlocked. Women's relief corps dedicated themselves to preserving the memories of those that fought in the war. It can be annoying thinking you're being followed but at least the place is being watched over to protect from vandals. Be safe Matt. Much ❤ and appreciation my friend.
Interesting mausoleum, beautiful stained glass windows. Two WOW trees and smaller related ones next to it.The WOW from "crist"is beautiful, especially with the book on top ( no damage ).The WOW from "blue " with the small ones next to it, just a small tree family, real works of art.Maybe you can revisit the place for a part 2 .

Hey Matt. That water pump is usually a source of water so visitors can water plants by the gravestones. Also people stealing bronze items like vases and markers is a problem in some cemeteries
This had never even occurred to me until making burial arrangements/choosing a gravestone for my mother in 2015. The memorial rep informed me vases in their cemetery are now being made of resin due to the high number of thefts in recent yrs.

Wikipedia listing for the Womens Relief Corps (pronounced CORE, not corpse). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woman%27s_Relief_Corps The wife "Mereby A.", who died in 1894, would have served during the US Civil War, because the Spanish American War took place in 1898. That is further backed up by her husband, Alonzo, having a Civil War marker with the years 1861-1865.
As many people have said it is probably because you were a stranger in the cemetery and there was a worry about vandalism. Here in Sacramento just this month we had a number of graves of fire fighters dating back to the Gold Rush vandalized in our historic Old Cemetery in the heart of downtown Sacramento. I have loved ones in our Jewish cemetery that was vandalized a number of years ago as was the Russian Orthodox cemetery. So I can understand why you would be followed.
Don’t take being followed to heart . Some places are voluntary protected from being desecrated & these people aren’t formally trained . I love watching the Videos because of often forgotten price paid by veterans is sadly forgotten .
They were meeting behind the mausoleum to have "you know" haha I've seen all sorts of things happening in cemeteries. They'll either stop and give historic information or leave, knowing that you aren't vandalizing!
It doesn't really matter whether you call it a burial ground, a cemetery or a graveyard. In the UK a cemetery is usually a burial ground with a chapel for funeral services. A graveyard was considered to consist of burials within the precincts of an already existing church and when these became full the cemeteries were created. I believe the biggest graveyard (churchyard) burials are at St Leonards Church, Heston, Middlesex. Of course even a former funeral director can be wrong. Interesting debate welcome.
