I lived in Tucson during the 1970s and 1980s. I wandered around certain parts of the West including Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Nevada and northern Arizona during that time. I met Claude Dallas at some point. I've been trying to rack my brain as to where it was, but for the life of me, I can't. He was dressed like an outdoors man and he told me he was on the run. But we talked about the possibility that the Federal government would become so oppressive that there would be a general conflict with the population. He was drifting at that point in his life. I think it might have been after he was on the FBI Most Wanted list. It might have been Idaho where I ran into him?

You missed a lot about Paradise. I met Claude there and he was exactly as you described. The town, though was built as a Pony Express stop. On any Saturday evening the main street would be closed due to a band and everyone in the street. Lots of cowboys and shepherds were present. There was a House of Prostitution at the time too.

Just subscribed. Great video ! I have/had the book "Give a Boy a Gun (and it will make him a man)". Claude Sr. supposedly said that. Olsen took this story like a bull by the horns. I first saw Dallas' mug shot in an Outdoor life magazine, keeping up with the story as much as possible in the 80's. George Nielson owned the school bus that took all Claudes stuff there. The dude was a lot like Claude Sr. (according to the book) Sr. lived in Myrtle Beach when all this went down. He had a lot to do with his sons demeanor. They would poach meat for the table. Sr. would beat Jr. and the others often, especially when they worked (owned) the milk farm. According to wiki, Jr. has a birthday coming up in a few days. My own opinion ? Oil and water mixed on that day. Claude Jr. being the hardcore outlaw, and Pogue being the hardcore "sheriff". Both being somewhat extreme. Both considered the land they were on, as their own personal stomping grounds. One the protector, the other a destroyer or taker. Something bad would happen anywhere these two met.
Somebody turned me on to one of your videos a while back and I have watched them all now. With vigor. I liked the genre and your style so much I have since found most of the others here on you tube doing similar. NONE of them come even close to your offerings.
Got to say I feel like I learned more about you than your subject. And it was great…felt like somebody I grew up with telling me a story. Keep it up your art is showing.
It seems odd he would be trapping out of season. Trapping for pelts is done during a narrow window because furs are prime when it is cold. Trapping out of this window yields furs of poor quality.
The Owyhee is a beautiful river, and the country it runs through. That which I've been in, at least. Anyhow.... this is a very well done thing here. Much appreciated Peace
I can’t say what I do, or where. But in a data base at work, there is a Claude Dallas with a PO Box in Alaska. Activity in NV in 2024. And all over ID and even WA. He definitely hops around. I hope the past stays behind him and he lives the rest of his life in peace.
As for the gun somebody a few years ago in Ball camp found a Ruger security 6 with the metal detector. Been there about 40 years. Probably Pogues gun? OR one of Dallas's????
"but josh" lmao what if ur friend starts working at a mortuary, and it burns down. and he want to use ur freezer? LMAO jk tanks again for doing this one. Got another good suggestion. But not tell black jack lol.
In '87, I was a 20 year old Dept. of Wildlife survey assistant in Nevada. Our project for that season was to survey the Santa Rosa Range including the Paradise valley side. Everywhere we went in the area there was swag with "Go Claude Go" and the such. We wore NDOW uniforms so we received a lot of attitude and suddenly high prices for items. I personally walked into that bar in uniform for a coke, not knowing about the relationship with the owner and Claude as you described. Even though I am extremely oblivious, I definitely noticed the sudden 30deg drop in temp inside that bar. I feel Claude was looking to fulfill the complete cowboy fantasy culminating in a gun fight, hence his quick draw practice and threats. He had it built up in his mind, and he isn't remorseful at all about it. There is definitely some skewed thinking and odd behavior on Claude's part when you look at his entire picture. Claude is some kind of psychotic, most likely sociopath with the easy disarming nature and probably impotence with relationships. You start to check off the boxes and it starts to point to a strange mental picture, like Ted.
My experience with wildlife personnel has been arrogant, full of themselves a-holes. I have no doubt the two agents brought on their own demise. You’re entitled to your own opinions, colored by your employment, but that’s my personal opinion.
The ending monologue was perfect in , not only the givin different perspectives, but also in your own settled opinion and take of the thing. The man was a murderer straight up and failed as a steward of Gods creation, considering he prided himself on living off it. Oh and make your living doing what you love. It's a rare thing and people be jealous and just want their fix for free.
I agree with the fact that most, in my opinion, cops are walking, talking, assholes. But yeah, dude is a psychopath! Psychopaths aren't stupid people. I'm honestly surprised that more murders weren't committed. Had I been there I would have been terrified. I certainly would have done whatever he asked of me. The killing, and torture he made these animals endure is awful. He set things up so he could use this as a reason to kill. Needed to kill for food, I call bullshit! He killed for no other reason, but the thrill of killing. At least the human killing was kept to a minimum. He's a freak!
Remember those are allegations and we don't know if he was truly abusive or just not gentle. It does seem that he may have lacked balance, but we really don't know how much is truly accurate. Was he truly abusive? Or were animals mostly a resource to him? I don't know. I hope he wasn't truly abusive.
Two of the main see eye hay tactics used when attacking a targets character, is animal cruelty and homosexuality. Both this video maker and the book he quotes, are agents in my opinion.
@@Hard_RightBADGE HEAVY cops and ATF. (I was a cop for 9 months, I couldn't stand my coworkers attitudes). MOST cops are cops because, "I was bullied, now I got a badge and a gun, nobody will bully me anymore". OR, "The BULLY in school, can't beat them, so he joins them". AGAIN, BULLY'S. A FEW good cops are out there, but, they are FEW, they stay, only because they cant afford to quit. - they HATE the BS and the system. But MOST COPS ARE BADGE HEAVY.
Nah, fuck this guy, he was a killer that wasnt about to listen to anyone. Im sure many of us have eaten venison that wasnt exactly on the level but damn, this guy was just wrong in how he lived.
The FBI FILES story of Claude Dallas is certainly from a one-sided pro law enforcement/fbi angle. I like that you approach it a more unbiased way of story telling.
Oh man this Dallas guy sounds so much like my husband, I'm dying! Not the weird incel, animal abuser, douche bag stuff, but the survivalist fantasizing about a societal collapse cuz he doesn't wanna pay taxes is on point 😂😂😂
You right! I’m former game warden Should have listened to whole narrative! First part led me off. I do have good information from law enforcement that he was living in the Kenai Alaska area as of last summer At least
I knew Pogue I was just a kid in Southern Idaho and he was a total A hole he tried real hard to be a total A-hole He would brag real loud about bullying hunters when he would check their liscince
Here because I just met and had beers with Bill Pogue's son Steve in Idaho. Only ever knew about this story from the Ian Tyson song and never knew it was a true story! Crazy..
The thing everyone overlooks with this is that the wardens thought they had disarmed everyone there. So the wardens even touching a gun was a threat that was not warranted.

Bad mothabugga right thurr suir, thanks for Part 2 expeditiously!!
Somebody turned me on to one of your videos a while back and I have watched them all now. With vigor. I liked the genre and your style so much I have since found most of the others here on you tube doing similar. NONE of them come even close to your offerings.
Wow thanks
10-4 on this one! Well played I agree with you on this one for sure.
You’re doing a great job bro, the haters will always be there in their moms basement
Got to say I feel like I learned more about you than your subject. And it was great…felt like somebody I grew up with telling me a story. Keep it up your art is showing.
Wow, thank you
It seems odd he would be trapping out of season. Trapping for pelts is done during a narrow window because furs are prime when it is cold. Trapping out of this window yields furs of poor quality.
The Owyhee is a beautiful river, and the country it runs through.
That which I've been in, at least.
Anyhow.... this is a very well done thing here.
Much appreciated
Peace
I'd never heard of his story until now.
I was so disappointed when I saw it was taken down I’m glad it’s back I need my fix
You got it
From the Yukon haha you nailed a Yukon river float trip
I can’t say what I do, or where. But in a data base at work, there is a Claude Dallas with a PO Box in Alaska. Activity in NV in 2024. And all over ID and even WA. He definitely hops around. I hope the past stays behind him and he lives the rest of his life in peace.
Great shows love them all!
Gracias
As for the gun somebody a few years ago in Ball camp found a Ruger security 6 with the metal detector. Been there about 40 years. Probably Pogues gun? OR one of Dallas's????
Haha thanks fer part two
Yessir
"but josh" lmao what if ur friend starts working at a mortuary, and it burns down. and he want to use ur freezer? LMAO jk tanks again for doing this one. Got another good suggestion. But not tell black jack lol.
Haha
Thanks man👍✌
Anytime
I had to deal with Claude Dallas while I was working as a Correction Officer in Kansas. in the early 2000's.
Very impressed
Great job Josh! Cant wait for the next
Claude Dallas is the textbook case better to guilty man go free, then to punished an innocent man.
I know you posted this yesterday and youtube took it down.
So what was TH-cam's problem with this??
I took it down. Yesterday I only posted part 1. Due to popular demand I chose to post the entire thing.
@@WildWestExtravaganza
See, I was wrong and prejudged youtube,, Glad to hear they didn't hit your channel with a strike..
TH-cam “strikes” in addition to its excessive overreaching and arbitrary censorship are horrific to say the least
Halfway to 100k!
🎉
Awesome episode!!! Thanks Josh ( a.k.a.) Danny McBride. 🤟
Thanks
Wardens have more flexibility than regular officers. But not to go into a house.
Very interesting story Josh.
Thanks man
The ending monologue was perfect in , not only the givin different perspectives, but also in your own settled opinion and take of the thing. The man was a murderer straight up and failed as a steward of Gods creation, considering he prided himself on living off it.
Oh and make your living doing what you love. It's a rare thing and people be jealous and just want their fix for free.
Anybody know how to contact Josh? I have a true story about claude dallas. Mostly about his brother. My father knew his brother.
To my mind the animal abuse is a key. Claude has all the markers of a psychopath. Not a serial killer but a killer no less.
@vintagesavoiur somebody kicks their dog... your a psychopath bubba
This dude is alright aside from his treatment of dogs. I can forgive a lot of things, but not dog abuse.
Yup. All done when you hurt dogs. And other animals. Zero sympathy.
No quarter for abusers, they get a john Wick
Amen! Nothing is more loyal than a dog!
I read the book above him, very interesting but sad for the game wardens and their families.
Remember Ruby ridge, Waco and this story!!!
I loved the still frame shot of Claude, with the Actor Claude Akins behind him with the blue Cop shirt.
love the part where the cowboys had to go to the Indians to borrow the phone ..😂
I think you're right about Claude. I believe he was fantasizing about a confrontation for years...
A great story, about a real asshole--
Thank you Josh!
You mean a real hero and gentle giant
Nah, fuck this guy, he was a killer that wasnt about to listen to anyone. Im sure many of us have eaten venison that wasnt exactly on the level but damn, this guy was just wrong in how he lived.
Damn I thought that ranch sounded familiar I live in winnemucca what a small world!
❤ good job
You right!
I’m former game warden
Should have listened to whole narrative!
First part led me off.
I do have good information from law enforcement that he was living in the Kenai Alaska area as of last summer At least
F@ckn sick episode dude...listened in one sitting dude....
Claude looks like a Yooper (Michigan slang for a Upper Peninsula native, although he isn't one)
I was going to say, that right there puts him on the fringe of society.
💯DAH YOOPERS EH,?
The UP’s scenery is gorgeous, its people are friendly and their pasties are delicious‼️
Some aren't to crazy about fudgies.!! But beautiful it is up there. Friends live in St.. Ignace, go there alot.
Crazy..
good one Josh
Thanks
The thing everyone overlooks with this is that the wardens thought they had disarmed everyone there. So the wardens even touching a gun was a threat that was not warranted.
Devils advocate: Assuming someone is unarmed, even if you did a quick frisk, is an easy way to wound up dead.
