    Still loving the series, guys! I did laugh at Jane's French, but at least you tried, and that's the biggest hurdle in my experience. The editing and music blending is really coming on Stew - great work,

    Thank you for your honest breakdown of costs, must say you are very nice people and really enjoyed your channel adventures. I keep thinking about a bigger van , but I’m sticking with my SWB pop top Ford Tourneo , simulator to yours but H1 . I will probably get a large power bank and solar in the future , save on gas as you have found it’s free energy 👍maybe see you in Wales soon ,well done and good luck both 👍👍👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢.

    Hi Jane & Stew, We have recently returned home from our French trip where we included Germany and Luxembourg, both very easy for free overnight parking. It was interesting to see your costs listed and the fact you found it so enjoyable that you could have stayed away from home longer. My better half is very much a home bird so our previous trips of three weeks has now become two. You seem to enjoy those back roads and I guess with Harry being a more compact vehicle it proves very easy for you. Looking forward to seeing new episodes of your travels in due course.

    • @getawaygeese

      Thanks Keith - really interesting about off grid in Germany as about to head to Poland in a few weeks so France Germany will be our route
      I think we’re past it being a ‘holiday’ feeling living in the van for an extended time and Harry being small certainly helps although I am sure that’s just a confidence thing

    Thanks for all the info and tips. It was very interesting to see your parking/camping site costs. This is something my wife and I are always discussing. She prefers more secure type/official overrnight stops which come at some cost. Looking at your costs and seeing your travels she now says she'll try some '!wilder' parking when we head to France/Germany in Sep.

    Typical cost, I think. It's a Swings and Roundabouts scenario for your French leg of the trip.
    You saw more sights than most holidaymakers, and covered more kilometers, so the fuel costs are higher but site costs were zero.
    Heading in August, ferry from Dublin to Cherbourg (€800 return, and thats towards the lower end of the ferry cost spectrum!) then hopefully this year head towards Bruges etc for a change.

    • @getawaygeese
      @getawaygeese  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Oh I really enjoyed travelling through France with you. I must say - with the GBP exchange rate to the South African Rand being a horrific +-23:1, a quick conversion of your TOTAL trip, would be a whopping R63 330 !!!!! That certainly makes holidays for Brits coming here to SA a real bonus 😂😂😂. The only thing would be your fuel costs would soar as our distances are enormous 🦋

      Well give it a go as a holiday if you take to it who knows - I think our budget we’re trying to move to ‘living’ rather being on ‘holiday’ as the cost is different

    • @alandavidge1273
      @alandavidge1273 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@getawaygeese I agree. We live in Normandy and your trip is pretty much how are daily lives are here. We visit historic sites, visit markets, eat out so you really were "living" in France pretty much as we do.
      Maybe useful to work out what it would have cost staying at home, food shopping, fuel costs, parking, home energy costs, entertainment etc. If that total is taken off your trip cost you would have the true "extra" cost of your trip. I suspect that apart from the ferry/tunnel there wouldn't be a great amount of difference.

We're new to campervan ING and have not yet ventured abroad. I have learnt a lot from your experience, thank you for sharing. The cost analysis is also very interesting. I know we spend just as much, or more on UK holidays, and then the fixed cost of running a house in the UK doesn't go away.
