This information surprises me. I own a 2024 Honda CRV Hybrid Touring (Canadian model) and the owners manual very clearly states the following: If Maintenance Minder message does not appear more than 12 months after the display is reset, change the engine oil every year. (verbatim quote from manual) The MM message is the one you get when you have ignored the oil life remaining message at 5%. I only bring this up, as a recently retired individual who worked in a Honda Service Department for nearly 13 years here in Canada, that Honda Canada requires engine oil changes at least once yearly in order to comply with the terms of it warranty to vehicle owners. It has been a once yearly requirement for more than a decade here in Canada. I cannot believe that Honda USA would double that service interval. Would you be so good as to check your owners manual and see if that service interval really is 2yr or 24K oil and filter. Thank you very much.
Thanks for this comprehensive video on the CR-V oil change, if fact thanks for all your informative videos on this model. I just changed the oil on a 2025 non hybrid car with a scant 871 miles. Likely wasteful but I wanted to get to know the car better. Is it just me or am I the only one who finds the orange plastic end of the dipstick difficult to read? If the oil is dark, piece of cake to check the level. Newly changed and golden in color, I found it tough to decipher. I know, hardly something to gripe about. Great car thus far!

@@xyeahtony1 for a full synthetic in a new car with that number of miles miles I was hoping for a more golden or brown color. We wouldn’t expect carbon to be blowing past the rings on a new engine. Just more discolored than I expected but it wasn’t all that bad.
The video shows the reset of the oil %. To reset the maintenance minder is done by going to that in the menu and clearing. It’s a separate step and not always associated with oil changes. Thanks for watching!
For people waiting for the car to tell you when you need an oil change and depending on that free honda two year free oil change. Forget it, basicaly honda is giving you two free oil changes over two years. Not worth it get oil changed and pay for it yourself every 5k. Unless you want a screwdd up turbo. Also get first oil change at 1k
You can also change oil yourself and not reset the timer and then take to dealer on your next change, so you get best of both- more frequent changes and use of your first 2 years maintenance for free. Thanks for watching!
Waiting more than 5,000 miles on any engine, especially a turbo, is just shortening the life of the engine. Forget what the dealer or mfg says….want it to last…then no more than 5,000 miles on an oil change.

Great video. My only concern is the amount of oil you put in. My owner's manual says 3.7 quarts. I will measure the amount that comes out as you suggest. However, I do not want to overfill the engine with too much oil. Perhaps your model is a hybrid?

I'm a little confused, the manual says to add 3.7 quarts when changing both oil & filter (at least it does for my 2024 1.5L). Wouldn't 4.2 quarts be to much?

My daughter just took her 2024 CRV in for a complimentary oil change (her 2nd, car now has 10k miles) at Huntington Beach Honda and they refused to change the oil. They stated that the oil change is only at 60% and she has to wait till it's at 18% for the complimentary oil change. How many more miles does she have to drive to get it to the 18% window? I raised my daughter to have her oil changed at 5k mile intervals and she has followed my recommendation since the day she started driving 8 years ago. She's never had premature part failures do to a lack of service. Changing oil in a turbo engine at a 5k interval is a must, waiting till the service light to come on is pure stupidity in my book!!!
I had gone roughly 7500 miles. This winter I had called my dealer to take in for change and they advised it had to be below 30%, it was still at 50%, even though it has gone another 7k miles. So I know from owning a 2013 Accord that the oil %/miles can vary quite a bit based on long trips vs short drives to work and back. I also agree with you that the premise of every year or 5k miles, whichever comes first is hard to go wrong with on these engines. Thanks for watching!
You trained your daughter well. Here is exactly what my daughter was told when she took here new 24 outback to dealer for oil change at 1,200 miles and said my dad said to get an oil change done. The technician said "smart dad". These little 4cyl turbos need clean oil and 5,000 max miles is the correct number. I am actually doing my wife's 2024 every 4,000 miles because she does quote a bit of short and medium trips. Cheapest insurance you can buy for your engine.
I was at 6k miles and prefer to do the first change early to ensure anything that any particles captured in the manufacturing process get flushed out. Thanks for watching!
This may be too late to get an answer, but according to three manual it states this car only needs 3.7 quarts, not 4.2. When I put in 4.2 it was overfull on the dipstick

buy 4 or 8 phillips screws for replacements and keep on hand. I had a similar experience with my 2022 Honda Civic Touring. I literally broke the head off on one...because it was so tight. Now, I have those screws in my maintenance pile. Merci
Removing the sheet-metal kick plate was difficult on the very first oil change. I was unable to remove two of the Phillips-head bolts because they were over-tightened from the factory--the Phillips slots stripped-out. Any suggestions on removing the ruined bolts? I will replace them with hex-head bolts.
Two steps you are missing, when removing the oil filter USE a plastic cup to keep oil from running down your hand, and put some fresh oil on the filter before installation.
When removing the filter I encompass the filter with a zip lock baggie to catch the excess oil dripping down. Before installing the new oil filter always make sure the o-ring from the old filter came off with the old filter, sometimes they stick to the bottom of the engine. I made that mistake years ago and made a huge mess of things...

Honda doesn't use Phillips screws like they appear. They have Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) screws that look like a Phillips screw, but actually are a different design where the end is flat. It can be damaged with a Phillips screwdriver/bit.
Hi, thanks for video! Can you tell me where can I find the engraved VIN number/ frame number on the 2023 model? On the 2017-2022 model, it used to be under the front passenger floor mat. I looked under the hood but no luck. According to the owner's manual there is only 2 places (driver's door and in front the dashboard). I even asked the dealership but no one was able to provide an anwser! Thanks again.

Not recommended as it provides protection to that area underneath the car. Also, provides some sound insulation from road noise. However, those things aside, it does not prohibit the vehicle from operating. Thanks for watching!
The engine cover comes off fairly easily once you do it a couple times, and then the filter is right there, but it does take some getting use to. Thanks for watching!
The cover does add a couple minutes, but it’s easy to remove those fasteners and the drain plug and filter placement are really good and do not make a mess on other parts when they drain. But I understand your point :)

Not recommended as it provides protection to that area underneath the car. Also, provides some sound insulation from road noise. However, those things aside, it does not prohibit the vehicle from operating. Thanks for watching!

I dont like that the oil filter is so difficult to get to, at all.
The engine cover comes off fairly easily once you do it a couple times, and then the filter is right there, but it does take some getting use to. Thanks for watching!
why so hard for oil change
The cover does add a couple minutes, but it’s easy to remove those fasteners and the drain plug and filter placement are really good and do not make a mess on other parts when they drain. But I understand your point :)
This is not accurate for 2024 Hybrid models. Please search for correct video from another for that. Just changed out my own Engine air filter so know 1st hand. Thanks.
