I watch a lot of cooking channels and John is one of a very few Americans who embrace grams. As a Polish woman, I'm eternally grateful, volume measurements never made sense to me.
Thats why he is the best because I have seen where some volumes are so different from their grams and at the end of the baking you don't actually get what you wanted,
Your cake recipes never fail. They stay so moist days after. John has THE BEST recipes on the platform, without the hassle and fuss of needing super niche equipment.
I'm teaching myself to bake because of you, John! Your videos give me the confidence I need to be the best baker I can be! You are my role model and coach - thank you, John!
Tried this out today. I never use that much butter so I cut it down to 150 gr it still turned out amazing. I added a pinch of nutmeg and ground ginger. It is by far the best cake I have ever made
I love the way you explain how and why the baking soda interacts with the brown sugar to inhibit gluten bonds from forming, therefore resulting in a tender crumb. I always come away from watching your videos feeling like I know more than I did before I watched them. :)
I have been baking for nearly 50 years, I never use salt in my cakes because I can taste the salt. I didn't realize table salt was too strong. Thanks, John.
@@johncspine2787 sorry, when I started baking all the different salts available now weren't then. I could taste the salt, and left it out. The flavor of my cakes was good without it. I live in the deep South and never got any complaints. Some of my friends in the 80s would ask me to bake them a cake for their Christmas gifts.
i just made this, and it tastes so good. i messed up while making it, and it still came out amazing. it’s light and fluffy but with a nice honey buttery flavor. i used chopped walnuts instead of almonds. they didn’t really stick to the cake though. might try adding them earlier instead. i used my toaster oven instead of my regular sized oven. it tends to run hotter, so i baked it at 323-ish and for only 30 mins. covered the cake with aluminum foil starting at around the 15 min mark.
I just love this guy! I thought I knew it all when it comes to cooking and baking, but John has taught me so much more! His cookbook is wonderful! Highly recommended!
I tried the recipe, and the cake that came out was one of the softest that I have had. A couple of modifications that I made the 2nd time I tried it: I doubled the honey and replaced 1/4th of the flour with almond flour and the cake was even softer.
been trying my hand at baking for the last several years but with no success. followed this cake recipe to the T. simply fluffy, delicious and amazing. broke the jinx finally.
Came across this today and decided to make it because I've been craving honey and it came out so good. I drizzled some liquid sesame paste with the honey on top and added walnuts instead of almonds. My only error was using my hand mixer which didn't have a medium/light setting and I think the aggressive mixing is the reason why my cake came out denser and lower than expected. Will try using my stand mixer next time! Thank you for the recipe!
Made this today, Amish Honey, kids brought me, best honey ever, I use a lot of honey, the cake is totally Delicious, thank you preppy, recipe is a Keeper. Easy homemade melt in your mouth Honey cake.
I look forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays due to your new videos. 🙂 Thanks for sharing this recipe! I love honey, & I’m sure this cake will be delicious. Your recipes are *always* worth trying. ☺️
Watching this from my wee house in the Scottish highlands and always love that measurements in grams are used on this channel! Love seeing new recipes and will definitely be making this cake soon ❤
There is also a Welsh honey cake, so moist. Yummmmmm! It is also a great keeper, have had one last three weeks and was still moist and delicious. Admittedly it lasted because I made it to go on holiday and then forgot it.
Wow, John! That cake looks totally delicious! I think I’ll make it! Honey is actually very healthy. It has antibacterial properties. So that’s a big plus.
In the oven as we speak. :) I made the batter with my kitchen aid cordless mixer love this mixer, i have KA stand mixer, hand mixer, haven’t used either since i bought the KA cordless. Game changer for me.
Hi, newbie here! You’re funny and make baking look so easy. I’m definitely trying this. I love honey 🍯 and it’s been so long since I baked, I feel so encouraged after watching this video. Thank you!

My wife wants me to make Red Velvet cookies. As usual when requested to make a baked good I went directly to your TH-cam channel to see if you had a video and recipe for it. I was disappointed to find that your Red Velvet playlist did not include cookies. So, there is a video idea for you. I'm looking forward to making some of the recipes in your book.
John, You should do a Bakewell Tart. A thin, moist almondy (has almond extract) cake with a thin glaze of seedless, raspberry jam. Serve with Chantilly Cream.
Hey John , I love cake but am going to make this cake with coffee with friends , never had honey cake , you awesome guy , I been watching alot of your video's and making your dishes , Yum absolutely delicious 😋 , thanks , I be watching for more and getting your cook book too and I seen you on TV, you was awesome , thanks John , 😀😺❤
Thank you for sharing John, I’ve made a similar cake but it was an olive oil cake, one layer like this one, very rich and kind of dense(ish) I really enjoyed it. This looks amazing too, especially with a drizzle of honey and the almonds. Yum!! Again, many thanks for sharing the cake with us, I appreciate the notification that a new recipe is pending….YAY! Have a great week with your adorable boys and hubby….also the upcoming weekend❤️ 💕~~Tina~~💕
I love your videos! What a wonderful place you and your husband have for bringing up your boys. I just had to tell you your goat Georjeana is my favorite. My name is Georjean. My husband bought me your cookbook for my birthday, and I love making your recipes. Your blueberry scones are the best!

The pie turned out delicious. But next time I will add more honey. I would like to add raisins, nuts inside. I will use these cake layers, bake 2, make cream cheese and cream, you can add nuts, meringue and chocolate. And I'll do the cake ) tort )

Completely agree, Aleksandra❤
Thats why he is the best because I have seen where some volumes are so different from their grams and at the end of the baking you don't actually get what you wanted,
He was a science teacher so that might be why. Science often uses grams
It's also just more accurate. It's a lot more convenient to just use my scale imo.

Salt adds flavor, interacts with the gluten, and balances sweetness.

Find a good sea salt. It's much milder than traditional table salt. I like Redmond's Real Salt.
